I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway (thanks, Goodreads!) and I loved it! It reads almost like a conversation with the author - who writes much like he talks, I imagine. I laughed out loud throughout, and though I wasn't expecting much in the way of weight loss tips, there is definitely some good, practical advice here, mainly to figure out what works for you, and you'll be successful. I enjoyed reading about his journey in becoming the person he wanted to be. I'm hoping there are more b...more
First let me say... I have never given any credence to self-help/self-improvement/change your pathetic life/diet books. Ever. They're mostly bullshit. If you wanted to change, you'd be out DOING it not sitting on your ass READING about it. I entered this giveaway thinking, "Meh, looks interesting enough. I won't win anyway, what the hell."

Okay so this isn't your typical weight loss diet book it's not also your typical memoir either. This mixes in "I Am Ozzy" with "Trust Me, I'm Doctor Ozzy" which ironically Carl is a fan of Ozzy Osbourne. If your only interested in this book because of Carl's relationship with Lady Gaga, well despite mentioning about her a few times and not even by name he doesn't go into detail about the relationship. But it does go into details about his past relationships and his life. If you are interested in...more
The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds...Wasted: A Memoir by Lüc Carl was a fun book to read. It's more than just a memoir. It's like having your friend kick you in the butt to start eating right and exercising.
Lüc starts out as a Nebraskan rock 'n roller, who goes to New York City to fulfill his dream of becoming a rock star drummer. He eventually ends up as a hard partying, bar manager/bar tender. Along the way, he gains weight; weight from unhealthy eating habits and booze. One day, he decides...more

I've only read a free preview of the book so far on my iPad and so far I really liked it. I'm a fiction writing major in college so writing nonfiction, particularly memoirs, is not something I know too much about but I read enough to know that this book kept my interest much, much more than other memoirs I read. Lüc's writing style reads both like internal dialogue and like a story he is telling only you. It's witty and very motivating for those who want to lose weight. In fact, in one chapter i...more

I received an ARC of this book through a GoodReads give-away, and was excited to jump right in when it arrived in my mailbox two days ago. It sounds kind of insane to say I was stoked to read a memoir that also doubles as a self-help/diet book, but one look at the cover and you'll see this isn't your average memoir.
Lüc Carl isn't your average bartender. Sure, he loves metal and partying, but after years of pouring drinks and living the nocturnal lifestyle of the party animal, he finds himself 40...more

I won this book through the first reads giveaways. I was a little irritated by the method of shipment (it required a signature - really? For a book?). Anyway, this is a autobiographical tale by Luc Carl, one metal-loving bartender. He got sick of being fat and decided to "get sexy" (his words). Overall it isn't a bad read, but I am not sure what audience it is targeting. Most people are looking for clear guidelines on what to eat and what exercises to do, when, not a meandering tale of one man's...more

I won this book from a GoodReads giveaway. If I'm being honest I have to admit that I wanted to read this book at first because I wanted to see if he mentioned Lady Gaga, and to see what he said about her. While he does mention her (not by name) he doesn't really say that much about her. I was actually glad that there were only a couple of sentences about her, after I started reading the book I was much more interested in Luc's weightloss journey than reading his thoughts about her.

I was not the intended audience of this book, as I am not a rock-n-roll dude trying to lose weight. However, I did appreciate this book for what it is.
It's a how to lose weight book full of cursing. I love that! Luc Carl is constantly telling his readers not to be a pussy and tossing F-bombs left and right. Luc Carl also gives his readers a lot of encouragement, letting them know if he can lose 40 pounds and get real sexy, they can too.

The title of this book caught my attention and after reading the description I decided to enter the first reads giveaway and to my surprise I was a winner! This is not your ordinary book, it was refreshingly honest and an interesting outlook. Not for those easily offended by language however the author did a great job of keeping the information simple.
The book was a Goodreads.com First Read contest win.
I read this book but I do not know why. The book was more about the vanity of man who is out of his prime. I have never read a book that is so vulgar. To write God in one sentence and then turn around and put goddamn in the next sentence makes this a hard read. Not to mention all of the cuss words.
To actually talk about using the pages from the bible to roll there weed with is something I do not understand. I also do not understand why the aut...more

I won this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. I wasn't totally sure what to expect with this book... and I totally wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. Seriously, it's made me think that if Luc's drunk ass can get up change his life, why the hell can't I?!
I loved the way the book was written. It seriously felt like I was sitting there listening to Luc talk to me. I can just hear him now "Stop being a pussy!" I LOVE it!! There were several passages that I loved so much, I took a...more

I won this book from Goodreads. Thanks!
I have to say that the book was not what I expected. I had thought it was going to be a humorous type of diet journey book throughout. I almost put it down after reading the first chapters because it was so sad and reminded me of several people I know. This book would be a great inspiration for the same folks to grow up, get healthy and anyone can do it with the right mindset and perseverance. There is not a common sense book I have seen for weight loss or...more

I actually found some of the comments very inspiring which is surprising as I am a 40 something mother of three and this guys seems to be a bit of a metalhead party person. Some of his comments made me laugh out loud although I have to admit the repeated references to his bowel movements in the beginning of the book could easily put people off. I loved how the author seemed to be a real person; he was out of depth at first in the gym and with the gear yet he asked the questions to get him where...more
I just got my ass handed to me by this book. Not only do I want to go out and run my heart out, I want to start eating healthier foods and take care of my body more. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
Don't let the title and cover fool you. The book doesn't talk about how to lose weight by getting drunk every night. That would just be nutso. Instead, author Lüc Carl takes his readers on an eye opening, in your face, crazy adventure of life lessons and kicking ass while being absolutely laugh out loud hilarious....more

It's a no-nonsense guide to getting in shape and losing a few pounds.
I won this in the Giveaway contest from Goodreads.com - and I am very glad I did.
Luc is a very straight to the point guy and he points out that it's not necessary to go for the fad diets and it's better to do things based on your own experience and what works for you. He seems to understand that everyone has different bodies and different goals in mind when it comes to health and fitness and it's a refreshing view on how to get...more

I read the tales from drunk diet 3 times already and I can't even explain how excited I am for march 13th.!! I've been reading Drunkdiet.com since May 2010 and I've come back everyday! Luc tells it like it is and always makes me smile. He writes how he feels and is the sexiest man. He inspires me and I hope everyone reads this book and gets inspired to make a change. I received the Drunk Diet How I lost 40 Pounds... Wasted by Luc Carl through Goodreads first-reads giveaway. First off the title for this book is amazing though slightly misleading. I'm not going to lie I was totally expecting a book about a guy who was pretty much on a diet of just alcohol and going out drunk to work out. I was totally expecting a book that was just filled with complete and utter ridiculousness. This book however is definitely not about that. Its a about a guys transformation f...more
I'm still recovering from the very short night I've spent finishing The Drunk Diet. You see, I like to read but it usually takes me weeks or even months to finish a book. I didn't even noticed I was at the end of the glossary..! I am not a drinker, I am not American, I wasn't a "runner", I was fat.

"The Drunk Diet" isn't a book I normally would read, but I am so glad I did. It was great! Luc Carl was funny, entertaining, and informative. I love his writting style because it felt like he was actully talking to me and telling me his adventures. If anyone is offended by curse words, then this book is not for them, but then again, if you are even reading this review based on the title of the book, you shouldn't be offended, I think? Despite what the title may suggest, this is not a book about losing weight by becoming an alcoholic. The author, who is proud of what he terms his rock n' roll lifestyle, does make quite a few changes to lose weight and get healthy--and while he never totally gives up alcohol, he does make changes in what he drinks and how often.
Dietary advice consists of stuff you already know (fried foods=bad, fresh foods=good), but Carl's irreverent and often profane delivery keeps things amusing.

LOVED it!!! Luc Carl is so funny and so honest. My favorite thing about this book was that it was so real, and that was refreshing. That, and some of his stories made me laugh so hard I was crying. Whether you're 200 pounds over weight, or like me, just eat way too much damn junk food for your own good, this book is so helpful. It was really inspiring and I'm thankful Carl was able to be vulnerable and share his insecurities and ultimately his triumphs.

As I began reading THE DRUNK DIET, I was fairly positive I knew how this story was going to end. Let's face it, Luc Carl was way over the edge.I don't care to read the "F" word in almost every sentence. I was also believed that I wouldn't make it pass the first few chapters. Wrong.
I have enjoyed this book. I have laughed and giggle over this man's deternination to gain
control over his own body. How many of us have had diet problems?

The advice here is sound, eat better healthier meals, If you need to trade an addiction trade it for a heather addiction like exercise.
Truthfully you will find some motivation in the book. If nothing else but to get your fat ass off the couch to throw the book in the trash. But once you have read it you can't unread it and it will be there in your...more

"The Drunk Diet" is a hard hitting, in your face, no nonsense guide to getting your $#!T together and taking control of your life. Luc Carl takes us through his early days growing up in Nebraska, to life in NYC where, after realizing he was unhappy with his wieght, he decided to get his life together and become the self-proclaimed sexiest man in the world - without giving up his love of drinking and partying. Having been in the rock scene a long, long time ago I was excited to read this book. Finally, something from the point of someone other than a your stereo typical health guru.
I really enjoyed the personal stories of the author's rock n roll debauchery and how he used those life experiences to fuel his weight loss. The book is also chock full of health tips and even some good recipes.

I won this book through the first reads giveaways here on goodreads. The Drunk Diet is a non-fiction work by the self-described party-aholic Luc Carl, who works as a bartender in NYC and loves his rock n' roll. In this book he shares his personal experiences on a quest to go from flabby to "sexy".
