Darkness Dawns (Immortal Guardians #1)
In this dazzling, sensual first entry in her Immortal Guardians series, Dianne Duvall beckons listeners into a world of vampires, immortals, and humans with extraordinary gifts...where passion can last forever, if you're willing to pay the price.
Once, Sarah Bingham's biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, s...more

It's a bad sign when before you get to 5%, you are already hitting your head against something hard - and if you end up pissed and frequently ranting for 95% of the book. Granted, this was partially due to my general crankiness for the majority of the time I was reading this, which may have affected how I perceived this book, but it also had to do with the things I've read previously. Or maybe it was just the book.
Within the first 5%, I immediately saw the world's resemblance to the wo ...more
I absolutely loved it. I could hardly put it down and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I now have a new and great vampire series I am addicted to. I loved the concept of these Immortal Guardians and how they slightly differ from the vampires. The romance erotica scene between Roland and Sarah is absolutely fantastic and so HOT! Their romance story had me smiling all through out the book and I even laughed out loud when Sarah stabbed one of the Immora ...more
Rating NC-17 for the sexiness of it all.

Overall: Brillant read!

SUMMARY (50 word or less)
Dianne Duvall is truly a gifted writer. Darkness Dawns is a fresh take on an old legend. Diane has breathed life into vampires without making them sparkle. Her vision is a mesh of the old and her own vision of the new. ...more
The characters drew me in and held on tight and I didn't mind one damn bit. They are quick witted and intense and so engaging. I loved the world building, it was so easy to follow, not once did I h ...more
This one is a very pleasant read albeit I find both the H/h a tad too sweet and too perfect for my taste. There is a lack of surprises and intensity in the romance, but the action scenes did help to speed up the pacing of the book. The thing that irked me most is the short time frame that it took for Roland and Sarah to start proclaiming their love. I just can't wrapped my head around on the fact that they get all chummy and start trading life stories within 24 hours and then planning t ...more
The romance between Roland and Sarah was really lovely and well timed. (I believed it.) I normally don't go for books with a ton of action, but this one wasn't over the top and it actually made the story even better; which was really a nice surprise! I also loved being in Sarah's head and knowing how she fantasized about Roland, who also happened to be immortal. Though, Sarah dos ...more
Many reviewers have enjoyed this book. I am happy for them. Really. But I do not understand why. Maybe if this were my first pnr book ever, I would have found something resembling originality. This i ...more
A little bit similar to the Dark Hunter books (at least in terms of the character set up), this is a series where it’s Immortals (good guys) vs Vampires (bad guys) existing in secret alongside humankind.
We are introduced to the world of Immortals when human Sarah comes across a man being tortured in the woods behind her house. Going all badass with a shovel, she saves the guy and brings him back to her house, tending his wounds and caring for ...more
Even though I am no longer a huge fan of vamps, I actually really enjoyed this debut effort. Author Duvall brings some science and enough of a twist to the vampire mythos here to avoid some of ...more
Ah yes... Roland, one who was thought to be anti-social and a royal pain in the.. uh... hiney is very swoon worthy! He "meets" a young music teacher, Sarah who is strong, independent and a bit weary of others herself. Roland finds himself wanting to protect the young mortal from danger he feels he brou ...more
Sarah Bingham is a music professor and a bit of an organic freak. After a night suffering from insomnia she sets outs before dawn to ready an area for her vegetable garden when a series of events leads her to a man staked in the ground bleeding profusely; and stark naked. She takes him home to nurse him back to ...more
I have been thinking on this book, and having just finished book 2 (which was awesome), I decided to up my rating. In fact, I may reread this book! I just really love these characters. I am tired of reading about characters with tragic pasts who basically end up acting like big selfish jerks; in this series, there is none of that. Even when a character is jerky, they are never selfish. And there is always the over-riding theme of caring for others and caring about human ...more
Where to start. I've slept since finishing it, so all of the myriad things that bugged me so greatly yesterday have had time to settle and hide in my brain...
Well, I will start with Roland. He is supposed to be 936 years old but there really is no hint throughout the book to that affect - unless you count using the word "trencher" or referring to his kids as "babes." Otherwise, he was like any other man from the 21st Century. Not to mention he is supposed to be t ...more
Darkness Dawns is another paranormal romance. We first meet Sarah Bingham. She's a professor, I think, of music or something like that. Sounds like she has just recently ...more
It was not yet dawn when Sarah Bingham stumbled onto a sadistic scene of torture in the woods beyond her house. Without thinking, she took the shovel in her hand and solidly connected with the heads of the two men who had stripped, stabbed, and staked a third man to the ground. Fighting her horror, she manages to free Roland Warbrook and get him back to her house to patch him up a little. She couldn't understand why he didn't want her to call 911 or take him to a hospital, and his ...more
The GOOD: I liked Sarah and Roland together. They are a strong couple. She is brave and compassionate. He is a warrior, is hot, posessive, all those lovely alpha male characteristics. I liked their romance and the sex was pretty awesome. Dianne Duvall writes a good scene! I a ...more

About the story
Sarah Bingham is a not very "normal" music teacher... she is a very kick ass lady, able to learn how to fight in only days, and fire a weapon like she born doing it. I like her a lot, but some of her aspects, like this "born to kill" seems a little exaggerated.

I think that may be the sweetest line I've read in a long time. And I didn't feel that it was overly cheesy either!

I loved this book. Roland and Sarah are great! I've actually read it a few times (this is just the first time since I started reviewing book) and it's still a fave of mine and always worth the read. :D
Sarah is a music professor living in the boonies in North Carolina. She's a good woman and she has courage as well. Sarah's outside one day at the break of dawn to dig a garden when something draws her attention. When she investigates, she finds that 2 men have another tied down and are stab ...more
It was such a touching love story! Don't get me wrong it was sexy too, as all these paranormal romances tend to be, it's not all mushy lovey dovey stuff, but the connection that developed between the characters was so compelling I totally fell in love right along with them. It has me in a kind of ooey, gooey state of contented bliss as I close the final pages.
Both the hero and heroine were refreshing and extremely end ...more
