Pound for pound the boxer Sugar Ray Robinson was a champion across weight divisions his skill and class was unmatched. In writing you could say there are pound for pound or should I say Genre for Genre writers that hit home runs and pack a punch with stories across different genres. Writers such as Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Dan Simmons and I must say also with Jonathan Maberry. He is writing top notch novels with the likes of The Pine Deep trilogy, The Joe ledger Series and B ...more

When I picked Like Part of the Family I didn’t realize that I had already listened to it once as part of a short story collection. At first I was really disappointed that this wasn’t something new and wonderful from Jonathan Maberry. But by the end I was just fine having listened to it again.

I really hope that Maberry will take on a full length novel about Sam Hunter, werewolf private investiga

Recommends it for: Anyone who likes hard-boiled ass kicking.

Incredible! I wish it was 1000x longer though. Can't wait for more installments of this storyline.

I was grateful to not know anything about this story before I read it. I went in blind and as the revelations began to unfold, I was thrilled and delighted with the results. Jonathan Maberry, author of the highly impressive Pine Deep trilogy, Joe Ledger thrillers and the young adult zombie series, Rot and Ruin, has managed to come up yet again with a fresh take on the horror genre.

Without giving anything away, this story follows Sam Hunter, a private investigator looking into an

This was fun. An interesting twist, with the main character being a werewolf. A PI by day and turning into a supernatural beast by night. I enjoyed this story and I feel like it has the potential to be something more.

Loved it! I can't wait for the next installment. I am so glad there is a story out there where the werewolves are way stronger than the vampires!

Totally surprised me on this one. REALLY great!
I want to give this 2.5 stars, but am rounding up for good measure, wondering if maybe I haven't let this one marinate long enough in my head after reading it, so I can give a more well-rounded opinion. But, I can't figure out why this is getting such great, 5-star reviews (Sorry Jana).

I just came off of recently reading another of Jonathan Maberry's books,Dust & Decay and thought I would give a try to something else of his. And the cover, I just love the dang cover (though now I realize it

If the sharp, snarky dialogue of hardboiled fiction crossed with supernatural elements (vampires/werewolves) sounds like something you would enjoy, you should definitely read this short story from Jonathan Maberry, one of the most reliable and entertaining authors working in the horror/thriller domain.

The first part of the story uncoils like a standard issue hardboiled tale, with a back-alley, down-on-his-luck private dick being hired by a beautiful woman to protect her from an abusive boyfriend

All I can say is wow! Absolutely loved this short story from Maberry. Great characters and dialogue. It also appears that the protagonist, a Philadelphia PI named Sam Hunter, will reappear in future Maberry stories.

When the ex-wife of a Philly Goth-club owner hires Hunter to protect her from her former husband who threatens to kill her. She's noticed that he's changed drastically recently and is afraid that he's serious. So Sam goes to the club to pay him a visit and finds that he has an ace in

My supporting comments:
For me there is nothing better than a lunchtime read that sucks me away from life ... only to spit me back into my reality ... leaving me not only reliving the words and story written ... but craving more of them ... that's Maberry perfection ... the short story way.

Good story wish it was longer!

I have yet to come across a Jonathan Maberry book that I didn't enjoy, Mr. Maberry you are a very talented man. Please keep the books coming!

Short story, fast read

Read the whole story in 20 minutes. Not Maberry's best work but still an entertaining read. Seemed a bit rushed.

Short and to the point. A fun little story, with a main protagonist I'd like to read more about. As always, Jonathan Maberry manages to give the impression of a much larger world with his own twist, even in just a few pages. Hungry for more!

I haven't read anything read by Jonathan Maberry that i haven't liked and this is no exception.
An excellently paced short story which could lead to bigger things if he decides to write more.

The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it was too short. But a very good book.
