Ode To A Book That I Did Not Hate (but that I also didn't love)

Morgan, Oh, Morgan your federal agent was shot
and so you got stuck with a bodyguard who's hot.
He works for, Sanctuary, a private organization
and in the wilderness is where they have you stationed.

(in the middle of freakin' nowhere)

Nik, oh, Nik you are the protector
and one who apparently doesn't know how to have fun.
Unfortunately most of what I remember about you
Is that for the whole book you never shot your gun.

I suck at reviewing books I love. It’s sad because I never have trouble reviewing books I don’t like.

I love this book so I am just going to list why I loved it:

The Characters were of course well developed. Right away I felt like I knew them and loved them. They were perfect together

The Romance The romance that developed between them was beautiful. I loved reading about them growing together and all the sweet moments they share

The Setting I loved the setting in the mountains by a small lake. Th...more

Guarding Morgan is the first in the R.J. Scott's sanctuary series. While this was a series not everyone will connect with, I found as a first book and couple, this was incredible. We get a good idea of what is going on, and I didn't get lost during the actual story line. While this book is a romance, there is a crime solving aspect to the book.

The two MC's worked well together. "Tough guy" Nik and "nice guy" Morgan. My feelings for these two were that the titles were not as suited as some people...more

Guardian falling in love with the person that he must protect is not a new theme. It has been used in so many stories before. Having said that, this novella works quite well for me.

I like both characters, Nik and Morgan. I like how Morgan works through around Nik and makes his move. Hey, they're both gay, and they're pretty much in "lock-down" in secluded location. So why not enjoying it ^_^. Some other protector-witness stories have them run around from killers but this one not so much...more
Very good m/m romantic suspense about a guy being kept in an FBI safe house so he can testify about a shooting he witnessed. When the safe house is compromised, he ends up in the care of an intriguing agent for a special organization dedicated to keeping witnesses alive... Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

Reviewed on Hearts On Fire...

RJ Scott is back and is writing the contemporary romance that we've all come to love. Morgan Drake was under FBI protection for witnessing a murder until someone on the inside reveals the location of the safe house. The agent that was guarding Morgan is shot in the chest and Morgan himself is wounded but not before he memorizes a bizarre sequence of words that take him to Sanctuary. Sanctuary picks is a private hyper-secure agency th...more

I really liked this story about Morgan, who witnessed a murder and Nik, the agent assigned to him for his protection. While the basic plot isn't new, I loved the variation of having an organization outside the FBI for additional witness protection - for the really tough cases. That added a nice twist as well as some extra tension.

The other thing I really liked was the characters. Both Morgan and Nik came alive and almost jumped off the pages for me. They were great together, even playful at time...more

As soon as I saw this cover I was in love with this book without even read it.
The cover was already a winner for me and I was hoping after I read it, I wouldn't change my mind.
Fantastic begining of this new series, Morgan and Nik are such a charming, lovely characters.
This story for me was perfect, Looking forward for the next book.

I liked reading this book. The story is standard witness protector falling for the man he protects, but reading the witty and flirty natures of both characters were fun. There is a side plot (or the main plot?) that seems to be saved for the sequel, but since the romance between the MCs is ending nicely, I don't mind. There is a hint where one of the supporting characters may be gay too, and might get his story in the future book.

Despite the topic, this is more on the heartwarming, swe...more

Romance between an ex-FBI cop and the civilian who is under his protection.

I liked the theme but I did not find the characters and the story compelling. Morgan was relatively ok but Nik... Something was off with Nik. I also did not like the dialogues when Morgan and Nik were in conflict mode because they did not seem natural.

I liked the cover though. Yum!

I really enjoyed this one! The concept of the story is a very interesting one. Having an organization called 'Sanctuary' that protects all those witnesses the FBI or Witness Protection can't is very intriguing.

I loved both these characters. At first, Morgan is a scared man. He's on the run from guys trying to kill him after just being shot at. He doesn't know who he's meeting or what he's going to do now. All he knows is some code words that'll get him to a place that's safe. He's a qu...more
Morgan and Nik....So Cute Together!

Tough guy meets, lovable, huggable Morgan~So sweet.

The Book~

THE GOOD STUFF in this book~ I Liked both MC's, and IMO the smexy shower scene was yum; the lake it was such a nice place for my daydreams to wonder around in~and Oh my Gawd I got a glimse of Dale...jeez he's hot as all get okay the next book, yes, I'm on it!

Okay really what's not to like~Bad Guys, Good Guys, and Guns~

So why not 5 Stars= So the bad guys good guys and gun's got my attention...more
I loved Morgan right from the start, what you suspect he's been through from the first chapter (or even the synopsis, being witness to something you'd rather not be!). Nik has that tough guy on the outside, big softy in the middle thing down just right!
I liked how the relationship developed, how there was a mutual attraction, but it had time to become something, and all while in the middle of it, there is a threat hanging over the potential of what could be.
It was a smoothly flowing story, well...more

Morgan Drake witnesses a murder in an alleyway. The murderer is a cop who supposedly was hired by the Bowen crime family. When the FBI fails to protect Morgan, he is sent to Sanctuary - a private foundation offering witness protection. Nik Valentinov works for Sanctuary and is assigned as Morgan's bodyguard. Morgan and Nik spend two weeks hiding out in a Sanctuary safe house, awaiting the trial. The cabin in the woods provides an idyllic setting where the bodyguard and witness find each...more
I would have liked this alot more if it was longer. There so much potential for a full length novel and i would have loved more detail into knowing Nik and Morgan. Nik is every mans ( and woman's) wet dream...tall, broad, strong and brave. Morgan is just cute, adorable like a puppy. Together they are hot and I would have liked to get to know them a lot better.

Nik is Morgans last line of defense and is charged with keeping him safe until he is to testify against a cop turned murderer for a crime...more
After years of this book sitting in my "Unfinished" shelf, I finally found the time to restart it. And now I know why I didn't. The whole 2/3 of it kind of fell flat and barren. I felt nothing towards the characters up until the last few chapters when they finally bared their selves and acted human with personalities of their own. And then there was the ending that promised a sequel I'm not sure if I should read. All in all, it wasn't bad but it wasn't very good either. Just flat.

Really good read! I liked it that there was no down time, it was always flowing, never got bored so that's a huge plus.
Nik and Morgan make one cute couple, I loved how sweet they were, specially Morgan's flirty nature :D
My only complain, was the lack of action, there was NONE at all, that was a complete downer, but ok, the story was good and fast paced so I'll check out a few more in the series to see if I like them :)

Really enjoyed this novel. But I was plagued by a weird sense of Deja Vu that really annoyed me. I felt like I had read the story before but its only a recent release.

I loved the characterisation and the plot was interesting enough that it kept me turning the pages.

Any fans of RJ will love this book :)

I liked Sanctuary, the agency. It was a cool idea, and a cool name.
The MCs were okay too, but the story was a little slow. Morgan witnessed a murder and when the FBI failed, it became Nik's task to protect him in the middle of nowhere. So it was basically about being holed up in that cabin with the very cool lock down system. Not much to do. Also quite boring to read about the big Nothing...
It was similar to Zero at the Bone. (If you want a really good witness/protector m/m, read ZatB!)

I adored Guarding Morgan from start to finish. Nik Valentinov is a private bodyguard hired to protect Morgan Drake prior to testifying to a murder he witnessed, he is called in after Morgan’s FBI protection is compromised. Morgan gradually gets under Nik’s skin and Nik spends a lot of time angsting over his ability to protect someone he is falling for, I won’t say more except that RJ doesn’t disappoint, not in the angsting or the ‘didn’t see it coming’ twist at the end. Well worth 5 stars
Sometimes I get in reading funks and I can't find anything that checks all the boxes for me. Twice now, when I've been in a funk, I've picked up an RJ Scott book on a whim and been totally happy with the result. I really liked this book. had life not interfered, I would have read it much faster. I can't wait for more in this series.
Lovely book! :)
I loved both Morgan and Nik (it was nice to see Nik has Russian origins, since I'm Russian myself xD) and I loved their slowly unfolding story. The ending was quite satisfying and I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Oh and the cover is sexy!

**4-4.5 stars** Loved, loved, loved this. Two stubborn, masculine, hot men duelling it out for control in the bedroom and out. The ending was absolutely perfect. Can't wait for the rest of this series.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. I thought it was a little close to insta-love and the resolution seemed too quick and easy, but it was a good read and I will be reading the rest of the series.

This was a really nice story. I liked both characters although, Morgan got on my nerves a few times. Plus, it was a little too insta-love-ish for me.

I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series.

Cute fun read loved it alot!

Looking forward to read the next in the series ;)
The premise isn't new but starting with Morgan on the run after his safe house is breached, forcing him to run for his life on the first page, is a nice twist. The authors's expression of his fear as he runs to where he hopes it's safe is well done and him trying to be brave as he does makes him easy to relate to immediately. Nik is a polar opposite. He's big, dominant and nothing seems to rattle him...until Morgan expresses a sexual interest and won't take no for an answer.

I liked the Ms. Scot...more
I've probably expressed how much I love Morgan countless times. Here, let me say it again: I love Morgan. Don't tell Nik, though - he'll probably hunt me down just to give me the evil eye and tell me to back off. There is something about all of R.J. Scott's characters that draw me to them. Morgan is adorable without crossing the line into the annoying territory and Nik is your classic alpha-type protector. What's not to love?

Morgan is running for his life. The safe house he was in is no longer safe and his handler was lying in a pool of blood. Nik is looking forwards to three weeks off ,When he gets a phone call from his old FBI partner who tells him he’s sending his charge to him.
