By the time I began the fifth book in the "Callahans" series, I had become fully and emotionally to Thomas and Katrina Callahan. I have lived with them through their first glimpses of each other on their Atlantic passage to America. I wondered if they would ever find one another and be together through wanderings in Alaska and in Mexico. I was a witness to happiness and tragedy. This book was the saddest of them all, partly because it came into history as I know it. More familiar landmarks in time, so I could predict happenings. Still a very moving novel, summing up 73 years of the Callahan's life. At this point they have grown grandchildren, and can look back over a very fulfilling life. I feel as if I was a part of that, which always makes me happy when reading a book.

This completed the series of the Callahan family. I enjoyed reading this very much. I would recommend it to LDS readers. I really liked the historical accounts.

Passed away November 14th, 2012. He was 69.

Gordon Ryan was a writer with a varied history. He lived and worked in six foreign nations and a dozen or more states, including Alaska. He served in the 1st Recon Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps in the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and in the Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
