Recommends it for: anyone with the sense of humour
I've finished reading the second book in the series. Definitely it kept its promise. Moreover, along with the fantasy mystery crept in. Obelix shared the centre stage with Asterix. A few things that I didn't like include Obelix's attitude toward animals. Obelix had a voracious appetite, I agree, but he himself commented like a “beastly animal.” By the way, I am not an animal right activist or something...

As the second comic in the Asterix series, it is a definite improvement from the original.

The plot overview, as given by Wikipedia:

"Disaster strikes in the Gaulish village when Getafix the druid breaks his golden sickle. Without one he cannot attend the annual conference of druids, or cut mistletoe for the magic potion which keeps the Roman armies at bay. Asterix and his friend Obelix set out for Lutetia (present-day Paris) to buy a new one from Obelix's cousin, the...more

Asterix the Golden Sickle – A&O go to Lutetia (Paris) to buy Druid Getafix a new sickle (takes on protection rackets)

Only with a golden sickle can the Gaulish druid concoct the magic potion that keeps the might of Rome at bay... so when he needs a new one only Asterix and Obelix will do for the job. Fun, as always.

his series was originally written in French. My brother (who spent some time there) brought back the English translations when I was young and even though I didn't really understand all of the humor, I loved them.
