This was an okay story, but it felt like too much was happening. The end felt rushed like the author realised that she has reached her word count and needed to stop. It had such a good start but just floundered a bit in the middle, rushing between all the problems.

There was plenty to like about this story, even though I'm not much of a fan of the 'good sister, bad sister' trope in romance novels. Where it fell down for me, and I suspect this is a UK vs US difference, is why so much hinged on the hero wanting to move to a town two hours' drive away. The whole time I was reading this book I felt like something was missing. It almost seemed like an abridged version of the story. Too many serious issues (child abandonment, parental health issues, major financial problems) dealth with like they were no big deal. It would have helped to give a little more detail about these and less about how they lived so far apart.

Pretty enjoyable read, although the "big secret" was a bit "duh." How are you just going to take the word of a proven liar and completely irresponsible person on something so important?! Made me wish someone had hit Rye in the back of the head. Hard.

The book made me aww and cry and then awwww again. Great books with lots of twists and turns even though it is a little predictable.
