Fall Mixed Up by Bob Raczka is a delightfully funny children’s picture book. The cover is bright and fun and proves that, in this case, you CAN judge a book by it’s cover. While the text is simplistic enough to hold the youngest of readers’ attentions, it is also vibrant and descriptive enough to please older children. Boys and girls alike will love reading this book repeatedly while trying to find all of the “mistakes” presented throughout the book.

I read the book Fall Mixed Up written by Bob Raczka and Illustrated by Chad Cameron. This book was about the season fall and all of the aspects of this season. I think the best part of this book is the beautiful illustrations. The images have no harsh lines and are very whimsical and colorful. Every page is filled by the illustrations, and there are no boarders, which gives the story a lot of depth. You could look at every page for an extended period of time and continue to be captivated by the...more

Hear the word "fall" and images of brightly colored leaves, trick or treaters, rosy red apples and bright orange pumpkins, geese flying overhead and more come to mind. Not according to Raczka and Cameron, however, in this rollicking look at fall. Many popular elements of the season are turned upside down, with everything being fair game. The rhyming text leads the eye to a merry scan of the illustrations, where things are all turned around. For example, the page stating "Apples turn orange. Pump...more

Fall Mixed Up written by Bob Raczka and illustrated by Chad Cameron is a picture book due to be released on September 1 2011. The fun illustrations and rhymes within this picture book take readers through the wonders of fall, with errors that entertain and challenge readers to find them all. There are mistakes to find from the very first page when the names of the months are jumbled together, right through the last page when we can still see squirrels flying south as the author challenges us to...more

Fall is full of many enjoyable activities, carving pumpkins, raking and jumping in piles of leaves, or watching flocks of geese fly south for the winter. Unfortunately, Raczka seems to be a little confused in this book. Here we have red pumpkins and orange apples, bears gathering nuts for winter and squirrels flying south, while geese hibernate. And the worst error of all, touchdowns are hit and home runs are kicked!? What a horrible mix-up!? (I hope you realize I'm being factitious, here).

From the moment I opened it up, all the way to the end of this book, my kids were smiling. My eldest is 6, and the middle one 2.5, and they both enjoyed it, though it's definitely geared towards the elder of them. She loves puzzling over things and trying to figure out what's not quite right.

Despite this being tailored very much for the American market, over here in NZ we are exposed to enough of the culture that my 6 year old could understand about Halloween and Thanksgiving. I did have to expl...more

This is my storytime read of the week! Better than any "Opposite Day" trick, all of the fun experiences of fall have been mixed up into a super silly rhyming story. Pumpkins are red and apples are orange, squirrels are flying south, bonfires are cool...literally...and kids are eating caramel covering pumpkins and warm apple syrup. Everything you know about fall is flipped upside down!

Kids will love picking out the mistakes and laughing over silly...more

There are errors galore in the rhyming text and illustrations of this book. Just about everything is mixed up with geese hibernating and bears climbing trees to gather nuts. Young readers will have fun finding everything that's wrong on the mixed up pages; one two-page spread even shows Thanksgiving being celebrated with a table laden with sweets and more sweets and no food to be found. The illustrations are cleverly rendered to support the text. My favorite one shows three children trying to si...more

What a delightful book for fall storytime! This book includes fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving making it perfect for several times during the fall season. The rhyming is wonderful and the silly mix ups will be great for having young children talk about what the correction should be. Since many of them are easy, standard fall things (apples, bears, leaves, etc) even the youngest toddlers will be able to participate in guessing what should be happening. The illustrations are excellent, ranging fro...more

This book was right up my alley. Sometimes when I read a book I'll intentionally say something wrong to see if my kids can catch the mistake. I do this often especially when it is a book we've read multiple times. My kids love it and sometime ask me to read the book the wrong way.

In this book the pictures & words are full of mistakes. My daughter had a great time finding things that were wrong in the book.

I loved the illustrations and had fun reading it to my daughter. A great addition to a...more

Reviewed for NetGalley. A fun picture book for ages 3-7. "Apples turn orange. Pumpkins turn red. Leaves float into blue skies overhead." The story is told in rhyme and throws our ideas of a typical fall day into complete silliness! The images are bright and colorful depicting fall as we've never seen it. Kids will have fun picking out all of the things wrong within each spread.

This would be such a fun read-aloud book. I can just hear some of those giggles that only seem to come from preschoolers...more

This book talks about all of the wonderful things that happen in fall, from holidays to traditions to weather. The narrator seems to be a little mixed up though and he can't seem to get all of his facts straight. The book is a fun way to discuss fall and all of its wonderful aspects with your child, especially when the book acknowledges that it may have gotten some facts wrong at the end and asks you to go back and check everything. The illustrations are witty and detailed and the book begs for...more

Fall Mixed Up is written by Bob Raczka and illustrated by Chad Cameron. The book is available in hardcover and is a large book with bright colorful pages. This silly story is told in rhyme and fits perfect with the start of the season. The books would make a perfect read aloud for ages 3 to 8.

Throughout the book Fall Mixed Up, the scenes and characters are mixed up indeed, wearing gloves on their ears and eating apple syrup. My Lil Guy,...more

Fall is here with the colors of browns, reds, oranges, yellows and more. With so many holidays happening and the changing temperature it’s easy to get a little mixed up. From candy for Thanksgiving dinner to pumpkins that turn red and bears that collect nuts, it’s beginning to look like this will be a Fall to remember!

I’m being completely honest when I say I’ve been on the search for great Fall picture books since I’ve had kiddos at home. It’s no easy task, especially when it comes to non-Christ...more

Fall is my favorite season so i was predisposed to love this book. I think children will enjoy the game of figuring out what's wrong in each page. The author takes traditional ideas and images of the season and mixes them up! eg apples are orange, pumpkins are red. It might be interesting to have this for a story-time, although it would need to have an interactive group of children. This would be great for K-3rd grade. The illustrations are GORGEOUS and pretty funny.

From hibernating geese to a Thanksgiving table laden with sweets, fall doesn't look like it's supposed to in this silly book about fall. Kids will love finding all of the errors in this book and discussing their favorite parts of the fall season. My favorite illustrations shows squirrels, each one tied to a red balloon, flying south for the winter. This would make a great read aloud to share alongside the scarecrow, pumpkin, and leaf books we commonly read with kids.

My 2nd grade class thought this was hilarious! Their teacher told me that they had been talking about Fall and I thought that this was a great transitional book for the time between Halloween and Thanksgiving. The students really enjoyed figuring out what was wrong with the pictures in the book and they rhyming text was also a hit. I will definitely keep this in my Autumn read-aloud repertoire.

The book has softened illustrations which, at the end, contrasts with the piles of sweets. I think some kids would like to have that for Thanksgiving. There is a tongue-twister at the beginning (Septober and Octember). Since the story rhymes, it is probably nice to hear for the young and it would be fun to read for those a bit older. It can be reread to pick out the mix-ups.

Again, probably more of a preschool and pre-K book, but I think two year olds can enjoy it, as well. The illustrations are unique, colorful, and fun to look at. the writing is simple, rhythmic, and rhyming, which always appeals to toddlers and twos. Even my little two year olds will enjoy figuring out what is wrong in each of the "mixed up" scenes. It's cute and entertaining.

This is such an entertaining and silly fall themed book! Not only does it rhyme, but it also mixes up different things about fall which would be a great way for students to use critical thinking as they try to sort it out. I think it will make the children giggle a lot, and could make for a very fun read aloud book during the fall season.

Raczka writes and draws fall that is filled with boo-boos. This book has an I Spy kind of fun, looking on every page for the mistakes.

“Apples turn orange.
Pumpkins turn red.
Leaves float up into
blue skies overhead.”

This might be a fun book for teachers to use with their classes. What’s wrong here?

Raczka shares a silly look at a well-known time of year. His tale encourages laughter and crowd interaction as readers find what is wrong and right with this season.

Possible storytime themes: fall, opposite day, silly

This book is about Fall! Except it's all mixed up, the oranges turn red, the apples turn orange, and the squirels fly south for the winter. The book in the end gives the kids an opportunity to fix everything.
I would use this book in my class to talk about Fall and the way it's supposed to be.
Janice
very very cute rhymed text with a not quite right discription of fall (Bears gather nuts, Geese hibernate. Squirrels fly south in big figure eights) At the end you are suppose to go back and figure out what is wrong. I don't think I would read it as a toddler time, but would be cute for storytimers
Snorkle
I enjoyed this book. The mix-ups were amusing and whimsical. I think by far my favorite page was one with the squirrels flying south. The rhymes were well done and I didn't feel like the text was over the top. The illustrations were also nice and did a nice job of blending the warm colors of fall into a nice palate that was still interesting to look at. If you're a fan of Fall weather and interactive books you might want to check this out.

Brought this out on a hectic school morning, and it completely turned around my 3rd graders cranky mood. Read it together, giggling all the way, and then he wouldn't let it go, examining each and every page until time for the bus stop. Nothing better.

A great read aloud for K-1! Each page has bright, colorful illustrations with "mistakes" about things that happen in the fall (geese hibernate). It would be a great review of the season and children will love finding all the errors in the illustrations.

I was not fully awake...when I read this at first well, I just went on la de dah and then...things started to not make sense and then...I realized that things WEREN'T making sense... and then I reread and it and thought it was GENIUS!!! Fun Book!!
Amy
This book is hilarious! Fall is all mixed up, like apples turning orange and pumpkins turning red. I imagine that this book would be fun to do with preschool or kindergarten while asking children what was wrong with each picture/page.
