Desires of My Heart - Devotional eBook on Psalm 37: 4
by
Heather Bixler (Goodreads Author)
The truth is...…You don’t have to be perfect to delight in the Lord. You don’t have to have it all together, or have the perfectly balanced life. For so long I thought before I could move forward in certain areas of my life I needed to at least have a perfectly balanced life.
But now I realize that isn’t so. God will bless your efforts, and He will honor your humility. So w...more

Desires of My Heart – Meditation on Psalm 37:4, written by Heather Bixler, touched home for me in a lot of ways. I felt as I was reading through the pages of this book that it was written just for me. The author is very down to earth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and talked about real-life issues – situations I can relate to. Due to the things going on in my life currently, I read this book at the right time.

Desires of My Heart - Devotional eBook on Psalm 37: 4 by Heather Bixler is heart-warming and inspiring eBook devotional based on Psalm 37:4, which says “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV).

This is a very readable and encouraging book about strengthening our spiritual life. It is fairly short and to the point, yet the author’s style is warm and companionable. She cites appropriate Scripture to support her points and is easy to understand. I didn’t feel scolded by Heather but rather that she was sharing as a friend her own discovery of how to have a closer walk with God.

What does it take to delight in the Lord? This short concise read leads thru the word of encouragement and yes even delight. We start in the inside, what is our heart condition in respect to who God is. This can be very painful and if it is not, you are probably missing something. It's painful because we have to be broken. I don't know how many times I have read the word and said to myself. God this hard. I don't agree with this. I don't think you mean this for me. When I start thinking any of t...more
I enjoyed this easy to read simple view of trusting God. By simple I do not mean childish. I mean that reading it made the idea of trusting God - with hopes, dreams, plans, and the secret desires of the heart - seem simple to understand. sometimes, trusting God can seem like something beyond my grasp, but Heather's heartfelt story of learning to trust God was moving! it's z REAL journey of struggle and surrender, and I appreciated her sharing.
This book contains a great truth that we should align our heart's desire with God's desires and will and we will have greater peace because He is in control. It also contains several personal stories by other bloggers.
However, there is not much substance beyond that. It's not necessarily a bad thing if you know that going in, but I had hoped for more.

A quick look at Ps 37:4 & how we can apply it to our lives.

“What does it mean to delight in the Lord? Delighting in the Lord is simply having a heart motivated by the Lord. When our heart is cluttered with desires that compete with God, then our hearts is not one with God. When we delight in Him everything we do is for Him, and is encouraged by Him”
