5 * because as I read the book, I couldn't help rolling on the bean bag with laughter, with tears rolling down my cheeks!
Caesar's birthday is approaching and one imaginative Roman general wants to gift him something unusual. And what can be more unusual than a invincible Gaul. The Roman's manage to capture Cacophonix and take him to Rome. An insult is an insult and has to be avenged, even if it meant rescuing Cacophonix! This is the fourth, and probably the first excellent addition to the series. It has well developed plot and characters, and clever historic puns (ie. ironic exchanges between Brutus and Caesar).
This edition introduces the pirates (who will become a part of a running gag in the comic), as well as Geriatrix (the oldest man in the village), and Brutus.
It also feautures, according to Wiki, the first occurence of Obelix's helmet game where he competes with Asterix for who wi...more

Asterix the Gladiator – A&O go to Rome to free captured bard Cacofonix; a terrific spoof of Spartacus, among other things

The 4th book in the many book series is a great one. Asterix and Obilix go to Rome, are made gladiators, and save the Bard. As always, they have a big feast at the end.
...Asterix and Obelix become gladiators to rescue Cacofonix from the Romans before he becomes the lions dinner...
Historical Asterix for it's very first "These Romans Are Crazy"! Like this one alot.
One of the more hilarious comics:'D
:-)
Storia semplice, lineare. Vecchiotta ma invecchiata bene. Bella.

I love Asterix. I think it´s one of the best comics ever!
his series was originally written in French. My brother (who spent some time there) brought back the English translations when I was young and even though I didn't really understand all of the humor, I loved them.
Giving Cacofonix to Ceasar as a gift was a bad idea and now poor Cacofonix can die on the arena eaten by lions. The rescue team - Asterix and Obelix - go on the missin. Fun
Many of these were read and bought while overseas in 1998 & 1999. I'm not even sure which ones I read when, but I did my best guessing!
This was the first Asterix book I ever read. And it was in Dutch! :)
