Beautifully illustrated in realistic style, this is the story of a most unusual dog named Carl. One day, when one of mama cat’s kittens decides to climb a tree, but can’t come down. Carl the dog races to the rescue. Carl wants the kitten to jump, but the kitten is too afraid, so the extremely smart and resourceful, Carl finds and begins stacking various items up and up to reach the kitten. He brings a wagon, lawn chair, and inflatable pool toy, before the kitten ultimately jumps down onto Carl’s ...more
The art is pretty, but the plot is just totally implausible--where would a rottie get a lawnchair anyways?
Each book in this series is written in a very basic pattern, uses lots of white space and features only one sentense per page, which makes them perfect for first level readers. While they may not be as clever as other readers, animal loving kids will identity Carl and the rescue story.

I'm a big fan of Carl books ever since Carl's Christmas. I just love the fact that Carl books are for beginning readers. Animal lovers will love the pictures and the story is very cute.
