3.5 stars. Good kinky m/m romance that left me feeling conflicted. I really liked the evolution of Paul and Danny's friendship as it developed into something infinitely darker and more complex. However, I was frustrated by the story seeming to end in midstream. I see that Beyond Eden takes place a number of years later, and perhaps it addresses what happens after this story ends... but I don't want to read an mmf story. I want Paul and Danny to sort things out themselves!

Wow. Just Wow. I really don’t know what to say. This book surpassed my expectations. I’m not usually one to read MM romance books but I just had to read this one after I finished Beyond Eden. The emotional connection between Paul and Danny in Beyond Eden left me wanting more, so so much more. I can’t wait till the third book comes out. I’m hoping it will be as awesome as these two. This is the prequel to Beyond Eden which picks up shortly after Evie leaves for NYC. Paul, who's past we were given glimpses of in the first book, enough to give a tangible quality to much of his tendencies & personality, we're given much more insight into in this book. Kele Moon sets a bar high above the norm in this genre. This is the first book I’ve read by her, but it won’t be the last. Finding Eden can be read as a ‘stand alone’, which is how I read it, and how I suggest you read it if you want to avoid the female cooties that seem to be inherent in part 1, Beyond Eden. While this book was released after Beyond Eden, chronologically it takes place prior to it, and Finding Eden provides readers with insight as to how Danny and Paul wound up in the BDSM relationship that we found them in in Beyond Eden.

See I knew this was going to be one of my favorite BDSM series!

I thought I was going to ruin it by reading this one after I read Beyond Eden.

This book is what happens just after Eve leaves for New York. We get inside Paul's head and learn just how crappy of a life he had a home.

We also get inside Danny's head. Although he had a good relationship with his mom, his father was a jerk.

We were able to see the depth of how Danny had felt for Paul, and we learned about Paul's fetish.

Paul has to be the best at everything and so he excels at sport, school, and not showing weakness during the beating. We skip forward two years to find Paul at College and Danny bumming around taking on odd jobs as a mafia 'heavy'. At first glance, it seems that Paul is more sorted of the pair, but Danny is shocked to discover that Paul has got involved with some very dark BDSM submission.

This was a book of two halves for me. The first half deals with the friendship between the guys and in particular Danny's attraction to Paul. Danny is bisexual, a fact he's hidden from Paul who thinks that Danny spends most of his time having sex with woman. It took me a long time to warm up to Danny. He has anger issues, is very self-centred, and seems to hate pretty much everybody. He a self-confessed 'asshole' who speaks to people with disdain and uses his good looks to get as many people to bed him as possible. I did wonder how he managed to keep any of his friends but he has formed a rather touching relationship with a lesbian couple as well as his friendship with Paul. I spent the first part of the book wondering why I was continuing to read about such a nasty character, but there was also something rather compelling about Danny which made me keep reading. Despite his rough nature he has pride and a conscience. He's the type of guy who once he makes a friend will do all that he can for them, will remain loyal no matter what. It takes most of the book for that to become apparent though, so I urge readers who may be put off by Danny to keep reading. He doesn't change, other than to perhaps become a little less truculent and more responsible for his actions, but we do get to see a better side of him that's hidden for most of the first half.

The second half of the book deals with Danny and Paul coming together as a couple and in particular Danny's reaction to the BDSM scene that Paul has got himself involved in. This is a time of inner reflection for Danny as his perceptions of his friend changes and, as a result, he has to deal with some things about himself that he has tried to suppress. The things that happen to Paul are rather graphic and some fainthearted readers who are not fans of very violent scenes or the aftermath of violence may not find this to their taste. Extreme masochism isn't really my cup of tea, but I thought the author had done a good job in showing Paul's mindset, his reasons behind needing that sort of submission and also how dangerous it can be. The character of Jason, another submissive and a doctor, acts as the sensible and experienced voice in the book. I liked Jason a great deal and was in sympathy at his alarm over the way the two men approached Paul's kink. Jason definitely needs his own book!

My main niggle with the story isn't to do with the writing (although some of the crude language used by Danny reminded me again why I don't like m/f erotic romance) but with my own squeamishness over what happens to Paul. I couldn't find the sex scenes sexy when I was worried about a) Paul's back bleeding everywhere; b) the foolishness of what they were doing in terms of not seeking proper medical help at a hospital (although I did understand why thy didn't go to a hospital; and c) how much of a pain it would be to wash the blood out of the sheets.

Having said that, the themes within the book were very fresh and I thought the way that both Danny and Paul were shown as developing their own strategies to deal with their past abuse and interesting and unusual idea. The story ends just as the men are starting to understand the seriousness of Paul's kink, and starting to develop strategies to be safer in their play. It takes nearly the whole book for Danny to come to terms with the BDSM scene, to stop think of it as something deviant. I presume the next book will show how the men come to a place where they can enjoy their newly defined roles within safe limits but at the end of this book they still have that road to travel.

I've had to think a little over how to grade this book. There were parts that really didn't appeal to me, but it was also a book that left me thinking over the characters and their actions. It also made me think about masochism and its effect on masochists and those around them. As such, I think this book deserves a grade of four stars. It's a book that will not appeal to everyone, but I'm glad I read it.(less)

This is the prequel to Beyond Eden and I think it did a fine job giving us a different perspective, letting us know what actually happened to Paul Guy and Danny Boy when Evie left them.

We never actually see anything from Evie in this book, it is purely Danny and Paul and it was great.

Hm...it's good, I guess. The ideas Moon tackles are ambitious and rather well-portrayed. My problem with it as a story, though, is that the characters seemed too self-aware. I think Moon was trying for more of a novel-type story, but at the very heart of it, it is still romance, so that should have been taken into consideration. The omniscient narrator thing isn't all that obvious, so there seem to be obtrusive jumps to omniscience odd moments.

I started skimming at a little under 1/4 of the way through, which is a definite indication of the quality of the writing...

The entire thing seemed oddly incongruous, like the different elements just didn't match up. There were several parts where it just read more like means-to-an-end...that is, there didn't seem to be any logical development for that certain point. It just seemed to...happen. Spontaneously and without really good reason (there may have been one, but it was a pathetic excuse of development...) There were some decent parts, but overall, it just seemed so contrived...

I'll give it a second star because I did manage to skim my way through about to half-way before I really couldn't stand all the wangst anymore.(less)

Well that was a major disappointment for me, after Beyond Eden which had both been strongly disturbing to me but totally enthralling.
The first and major thing I absolutely hated is the ending, because it is not an ending but a major cliffhanger. And I hate that, as I have each time the feeling that the author takes the readers for stupid and wants to force them to buy the next one - if the book is compelling, the characters interesting, it will work without having to cut the book into 2 parts.

"Finding Eden" is the second book in the Eden series by Kele Moon but is actually the prequel to the first book, "Beyond Eden". This second book gives a deeper perspective on the evolution of the relationship between Paul and Danny. Eve, the girl they both love, isn't part of the book but she is mentioned here and there, highlighting the love and affection both men have for her.

I already knew Paul and Danny from Beyond Eden, so I was aware of certain character traits. Like Paul being too giving and has no boundaries in his sexual preferences. Or that Danny has utter foot-in-mouth moments making him a jerk on occasion. I knew who Paul and Danny were yet in Finding Eden they still managed to affect me in new ways. It is mainly because more attention is given to their home situation and it was gritty. It speaks of alcohol and physical abuse which both leave a profound mark on these two young men. Paul is this double-edged persona of light and darkness. He is an all-American golden boy. He is a straight A student, a star football player, does charity work and is charming. Even while the charming, giving personality traits are an essential part of Paul it is countered with a hunger for pain, for being dominated. Paul needs this to function, and in this his struggles are intimately portrayed by the author. Kele Moon gave me the innermost self of Paul and allowed me to understand who he was, where his needs stemmed from and why he was the man he was. Paul struck a chord with me in his vulnerability, in his needs, and in doing so he completely won me over!

Danny had the same effect on me just in a whole other way. Danny is the bad boy, the one who gets all the chicks between the sheets with a devil-may-care attitude. He needs no one but behind that exterior attitude I found a man who was capable of loving so deeply, it just blew me away. Danny might not befriend easily or fall in love easily but when he does…oh my, he makes my romantic heart go in to overdrive. Danny loves in his own unique way, it may not be full of roses and daisies but a powerful love that will go the distance and beyond! I relished in how Kele Moon laid him bare for me in his struggles. Paul needs something from Danny which he is not easily giving in to. Namely satiating Pauls need for pain and being dominated. Danny makes mistakes but, like with Paul, I was inside his psyche where I got to understand and feel where it all came from.

I went through each struggle, each painful or joyful moment and I watched a friendship alter in a fiercely dark erotic romance. To say the dynamics between Paul and Danny was completely grabbing me would be an understatement. They created a synergy of emotional and sexual hunger which only they together could satisfy. I inhaled it! Due to Paul’s pain fetish and the raw moments it provides a darker side to the eroticism. Yet the eroticism is also titillating, naughty, provoking and seductively sexy! It’s a one of a kind blend where Kele Moon takes the sexy and roots it in profound emotions between characters who have an intense connection that deepens with each moment shared. The dialogues are brimming with male banter, quick wit and the characters personality. The verbal clash of these two personalities created quite the firework and my eyes devoured it.

There is also a minimum secondary cast whom support the journey of Paul and Danny but never detracted the attention from them. Secrets gradually get revealed and sets up the main conflict. This is whether Danny can provide what Paul needs and it is masterfully elaborated and unfolds a situation where emotions and darkness peaks. There is nothing I want more than an author letting me into the world of the characters and allow me to get to know them in a very intimate way. Kele Moon gives me that and so much more. There is no way to describe how Paul and Danny got under my skin and let me feel a range of emotions. They come alive for me as I read Finding Eden. The whirlwind of feelings with the characters raged inside me as well. Like I mentioned earlier; there is no filter between the story and me. I absorbed the intricate storylines and characterization with no regard for my surrounding. I just was that captivated by the powerful voice of these characters. It turned me in to a ravenous reader and even though the happy for now ending worked like a charm for me, I wanted more. It felt like Finding Eden was just the beginning, that the story of the D/s relationship expanding was yet to come. As I found out, this will happen in Claiming Eden.

I crave ‘outside the box’ romance with extraordinary and flawed characters. I revel in a complex situation meshed with mind-blowing ecstasy. Have it all amplified by an imaginative writing style and I have readers bliss written all over my face. Kele Moon hits the bull’s with all of the above! Finding Eden is gritty, it will take you through the dark recesses of the characters soul before a HFN will have you close the book. It will put you through the emotional wringer but delivers a story where you’re accepted and loved exactly for who you are. This is what romance is all about!

He didn’t want to be that person. He certainly didn’t want to turn into one willing to damage something so ethereally gorgeous just to hold Paul close. Danny had wanted him for as long as he could remember, had watched from a distance and hoped and prayed for a chance at tasting the divine. Now here Paul was, naked and sated in Danny’s bed, and the only thought he had about it was that God had to be a twisted bastard.

Wearing only a pair of jeans, Danny sat by the front door straightening a beer bottle. He turned the label outward on touch alone as he stared ahead unseeing. This was what he was destined to be, a heartbroken shell of a man living in a hollowed-out home, lining up bottles.

“Your ass belongs to me. I’ve suffered for it. I’ve loved you forever. I deserve it,” Danny went on, his voice a low mixture of anger and desire. “I don’t ever want you getting from another man what you can get from me. You hear me, Paul Guy, it’s mine.”
“Yeah,” Paul choked, shifting beneath Danny, aching for him. “I hear you.”

Paul forgot what he had been trying to get from Danny to begin with. His back was burning and his cock was hard. Danny felt amazing over him, all muscle, raw strength and untamable fury. He wanted to cling to him, to hold Danny closer. More so, he wanted to reach down and push off the boxer shorts he wore, craving the feeling of being bare and vulnerable.

Because of a childhood filled with never being good enough, Paul has an extreme pain fetish – and put in the hands of an inexperienced or irresponsible Dom, things go very south for Paul quick. He refuses to use a safe word, and the Dom goes too far.

Danny puts an end to it, but Paul needs someone to submit too, and wants Danny to be that person. But Danny doesn’t know if he has it in him, but wants to care for his friend more than anything in the world.

Finding Eden really explores how Paul and Danny fall into a physical relationship and how Danny finally decides to become the Dom that Paul needs. This can definitely be read as a stand alone, however it ends with not a lot of resolution. If you read Beyond Eden, most of that resolution is resolved with the HEA. I still think Kele Moon is able to write another book that takes place before Beyond Eden because although this one explores Paul’s submission, we still don’t see how Danny comes to be this extraordinary Dom. And that is something I would love to see.

We get some very hot sex scenes – Kele Moon is one of my favorites for how she writes her sex scenes. Very intense, erotic and just plain out sexy. I’m more of a fan of m/m than m/m/f (which is the case for Beyond Eden) so I was happy to just have m/m scenes in this book.

I don’t think the emotional depth is as great as the first book, although I think Paul’s desperation to find who he is is portrayed well. And Danny rides that line of being a total jerk…but not. I love his alpha behavior. He is kind of nasty, but it works so well for him…and Paul.

Through this book Danny must decide if the next place his life goes is learning how to be Paul’s dominant. I wish we would have seen more of that. It ends rather abruptly, and I would have loved to see that part of Danny explored more.

This is a darker, erotic, bdsm book but I actually think I was taken more out of my comfort zone with Beyond Eden rather than this one. Or maybe I just knew what to expect more. Either way, both books I recommend

Brilliant, fabulous, fantastic. Like watching two cars slam head-on into each other, in slow motion.

Paul and Danny have been best friends for ever. Paul gets off on being hurt. Danny gets off on controlling others. Neither has any ability whatsoever to stop themselves where the other is concerned.

After reading Beyond Eden I couldn't wait to read about Paul and Danny's story. I will admit I like beyond Eden a little better but only because I enjoyed the story of the three of them together. I loved Beyond Eden. Loved it. Reading this book was a wonderful way to get to spend some more time with Paul and Danny and get a better idea of what happened between the time Eve left for New York and came back in Beyond Eden. I love these guys and missed them. I think knowing how things turn out and what they all become made reading this book really interesting. Getting to see the learning curve and the journey was great. I really hope that Kele Moon writes a third book in the series to cover...more

I read this as soon as I finished Beyond Eden and I did enjoy this one a lot more. Without Eve, there was only Paul to annoy me, and he didn't as much in this book. I still have to admit that Danny is the only reason I have continued with these books. I will admit that I am looking forward to the next one much more then I thought I would be.

Yay for this book finally being on Kindle! This is the second book in this series and is a prequel to the first book titled Beyond Eden (which was freakin' fabulous). I'm hoping this isn't where the series ends..........I believe Kele Moon has set this up for a third book. I'm crossing my fingers!

Finding Eden is just as dark and steamy hot as Beyond Eden. I love that we get to see Paul and Danny before their master/slave relationship begins and how they tip-toe around each other die to secrets....more

This was a good prequel to

. This is mm only, there are peripheral ff characters. This fleshes out the story in Beyond Eden - Danny and Paul's adolescence and the dysfunctional families that they have both survived and how they came together when Eve left for New York. The edge play that Paul Guy craves is written very well - not my cuppa tea - but still interesting and of course caters directly to Danny Boy's darkness.

All in all, a very good read, another home run for the author.

Loved this story. I think it went perfectly with Book 1 cause it gives you a bit of a different view & hindsight about how everything began in Book 1. I just wish it was a bit longer. Was so good that it went by before I knew it! Cannot get enough of Danny & Paul. I think they suit each other perfectly. And I haven't read many M/M stories but this was so good. And the sexual chemistry was incredibly hot haha I can't wait for the continue of this series. Amazing!

I love Paul and Danny in this book. They are the chibi editions of Paul and Danny in Beyond Eden. But... I heart Dr. Jason more. I heart him like whoa. *hearts in eyes* He was mentioned once in Beyond Eden and in this book... he can come be my boyfriend or stay for good :D
