I was given this book for an honest review and my honest thoughts, so here goes...
I have to say that Ms. Cristal is a hot writer. She rocked my world with No Fantasy Required and now makes my dreams a little more sweeter with Being Arianna. She knows how to get under the mask of what you are thinking and put them down on the pages for us to fan ourselves with. Being Arianna is no exception to that rule. This is an erotic short, and a good example. While the point of view is nearly all internal and comes from Elle / Ariana, the scenes and confusion is well defined and described. This is not a particularly original tale: high-powered by day woman has a secret life as a disguised performer in a sex club, but the story is very well formed and the character of Elle is well thought through.

low 2s -- barely there characterization means (1) hero and heroine come off as completely unsatisfying Mary Sues, and (2) this novella is more fodder for fantasy than actual literature.
and lest you think i'm damning all erotica because i prefer romance, i'll say that cara mckenna does an amazing job writing fully realized characters with credible psychologies whose plots are much more about the slap and tickle than happily ever after. it can be done, but this ain't it.
