Vonda writes with so much passion, you can feel like you are right there in the mist of what’s happening and that’s what drew me to love this book even though I wanted to slap the heroine silly before it was over, but I’ll get back to that in a bit. As most of you know paranormal romance is my forte in reading, I do like historical but they have to hit me right in some areas that I am picky in, this one hits me right in all the right ways , I was very impressed and screaming for more.

As most of you know paranormal romance is my forte in reading, I do like historical but they have to hit me right in some areas that I am picky in, this one hits me right in all the right ways , I was very impressed and screaming for more.

I really don’t think I have the words that express this story. It was fun, exciting and dangerous with the added right spice between the hero and heroine, it was fantastic. The only downside I found was I wanted to slap Gwyneth silly before it was all over. She was very hard headed and didn’t want to take Alasdair’s advice. He done everything for her and she seemed to want to throw it all aside. So you get some tension between them before its all over. I do feel I need to stress Gwyneth does have her reasons for being like she is with everything she has went through in her life. I loved the fact the heroine is not a virgin and the hero loved his first wife so much so he keeps his pants up unlike his brother in every ladies petticoat LOL. Oh yeah, he is going to be interesting to read.

Alasdair and Gwyneth are a great couple they have a lot of passion for each other. The sexual tension is there but it takes a bit for these two to get it going. I want to add the author didn’t go over board on the sex, I felt there was just the right amount without filling the pages up with it.

This is one book that when you read it you might find yourself asking, “why isn’t this in mass paper back?” Well, I have no real clue why this author chose to go this route but I will say I am proud that she did. This way she can control her destiny. I know a lot of authors are going to start choosing this option as the publishers get pickier. So don’t let this stop you from trying this book because I couldn’t put it down, I read it in one day. I highly recommend this one to any romance reader. (less)

I began reading this book late one evening, and I couldn't put it down. I quickly became absorbed in the story and every time I told myself I would put it down at the next chapter, I kept reading. Gwyneth is a widow and a disgraced English Lady. After her disgrace, she was sent to live with distant relatives in Scotland, who treated her like a commodity. Elisabeth hates violence, especially the Highlanders who do nothing but fight. However, when she finds Alasdair and sees that he truly wants peace, the only thing she can do is help the wounded highlander heal. When her relatives find she helped the enemy, she has to run for her life with her son and hope that the wounded Highlander will help her. Alasdair is the Laird of his clan, and grateful for the help Gwyneth gave him. He agrees to help her, but keeping her with him is a difficult task, especially when her clan is willing to kill to get her back.

Gwyneth is an intriguing character. She is a Lady who has adapted very well to her life's circumstances. She went from being a well-educated English Lady to a poor relation of a dirty, mean Scottish Clan Laird. She handles the situation well, she makes due, raises her son the best she can, and she learns how to be a healer. The main issue I have with Gwyneth is that she is pretty over-protective of her son. She hates the violence so much and wants to be away from it so badly that she can overlook some of the more important aspects of life, such as a good man who loves her son.

I love Alasdair, he is a laird who puts his clan first and he is very honorable. Alasdair struggles with his attraction to Gwyneth because he loved his first wife (who died) so much. He has to let go of the past and risk himself when it comes to Gwyneth. I admire him for his dedication and his loyalty. He challenges Gwyneth to be the woman he knows she can be, the Lady.

As I said, I couldn't put this book down. The pacing is excellent, there is never a dull moment and there are so many different elements to this story. Gwyneth has a past from England and from her clan that clash with her current situation. There is always something happening, going wrong, and the attraction between Alasdair and Gwyneth progresses through it all.

My Fierce Highlander is a thrilling adventure and love story enmeshed in the times of warring Highland clans and stuffy English Lords. Historical romance readers, I highly recommend reading My Fierce Highlander, this is a highlander story worth reading.

My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair is an exciting, action packed, Highland romance set during the reign of King James I. The characters are interesting, the pace is fairly even and the dialogue is in keeping with the times. While the romance between the two primary characters is the main focus of the story, there is also a secondary plot involving an untrustworthy clan leader and a treacherous English Marquess.

Lady Gwyneth Carswell was banished to the Scottish Highlands six years ago by her father for becoming a “disgraced” woman. Forced to marry one of her distant cousin’s clansmen, she’s a widow with a six-year-old son. She’s also become a healer. While Gwyneth loves the beauty and solitude of the Highlands, she hates the constant fighting between the clans and hopes to return to England and peace. She never thought saving a man from death would put her and her son in danger from her cousin’s wrath. She also never thought she’d fall in love with one of the enemy warriors. Ms. Sinclair did a good job developing Gwyneth’s character at the start of the book; she’s a peace loving woman stuck in a dangerous situation because she was a naïve young woman and because of her good heart. While she hates the constant battles taking place around her, she knows she will fight to save the life of her son and her own.

Laird Alasdair MacGrath wants peace in his area in Scotland. Hoping his clan’s enemies, the MacIrwins, are sincere, he arranges a meeting to discuss peace terms. But the MacIrwins are only determined to kill him and his clan and he’s almost killed in an ambush. Healed by an English beauty, Alasdair manages to make it back to his castle only to have the woman and her son follow him; they now need his protection. Ms. Sinclair did an excellent job with Alasdair; he’s everything a reader would want in a hero. Tall, handsome, and well built, Alasdair is also smart and kind. He’s a good leader for his clan and puts the needs of his people first. A widower for the last two years, he never planned on falling in love with a woman again or on risking everything for love.

The scenes between Gwyneth and Alasdair are full of sexual tension and good dialogue. They have incredible heat together. I liked how Ms. Sinclair built their characters and let them get to know each other before they became intimately involved. I didn’t like what happened after they became intimate; Gwyneth fell into a pattern of wanting and rejecting Alasdair and suffers tremendous guilt. I understood it to an extent but I felt that it went on for too long and I really didn’t like the confused message she sent; the “no means yes” message. Alasdair was really almost too good for her during those scenes and I wanted him to grab her by the shoulders, shake her, and tell her to snap out of it.

The secondary characters are well done and provide conflict and support for both plots running through the story. Alasdair’s clan is full of hardworking, fair, and honest people and as they grew to know Gwyneth and her son Rory, they accepted them with open arms. The villains are very well done and it was easy to hate them and want them to get their just desserts!

The end of the story is full of action with a kidnapping, an assassination attempt, and several fights resulting in some deaths. Do Gwyneth and her son Rory stay in the Highlands and become a part of Alasdair’s future? You’ll have to read My Fierce Highlander to find out. (less)

Laird Alasdair MacGrath realizes he's been captured by the enemy. To protect himself he lies to Gwyneth about who he is in case she decides to turn him over to the Laird MacIrwin. Alasdair realizes that the bloody battles between his clan and MacIrwin will never end. He was tricked by the MacIrwin and ambushed in the fields as he was riding to meet the MacIrwin to talk about the peace treaty. While Alasdair recovers he finds himself drawn to Gwyneth as well but he knows that his presence has put her in danger. He makes an escape back to his lands never expecting to see her again.

Gwyneth flees for her and her son's life when her kinsman finds out that she was harboring the enemy. She seeks safety with Alasdair. Things become complicated for both as their feelings start to grow for one another. Gwyneth still plans to return to England and Alasdair is not sure he can let her go. Her presence has brought the wrath of the enemy onto his clan, her desire to return to England and an unexpected complications arrives that will make Alasdair's task to keep Gwyneth with him much harder.

My Thoughts:
Vonda Sinclair is a new to me author. I'm always leery of trying new authors out so I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. I can honestly say that I liked this book. I liked it enough that I already bought and read the second book in this series. :) The book did start off a bit slow for me and it took me awhile to get into it. The action does start to pick up and things went smoothly from there.

Alasdair is a fine hero. He protects Gwyneth at every turn either from her clansman or from his fellow clansman. He is instantly attracted to her for her strength but knows that she is a lady and fights his baser instinct. Once he realizes there is no hope of ever getting over her he sets about to thoroughly seduce her and seduce her he did. As for Gwyneth she a bit more complicated. She is torn between her growing feelings for Alasdair and her wish to find a better life for her son away from the Highlands. There were moments that I enjoyed Gwyneth's strength and than she had her moments of blind stupidity that just made me want to smack her at times. LOL!

As a couple these two fit together and the scenes where they interact is filled with major sexual chemistry. Their story moved at a believable pace and the dialogue kept me reading. I loved the secondary characters in this book. Lachlan, Alasdair's younger brother was such a flirt and a man whore. I couldn't help but love him. Rory, Gwyneth's son was an absolute cutie. Usually kids in books annoy me but I thought Rory's character was well written and added to the storyline. The bad guys were literally bad. Rory's real father, Southwick and the Laird MacIrwin provided the right villainous conflict to keep the story moving nicely.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I definitely would recommend it for lovers of Highlander stories.

I just finished reading an amazing Scottish adventure written by Vonda Sinclair. I loved her two main characters Alasdair MacGrath and Gwyneth, also her little boy Rory and Alasdair's brother Lachman.The romance between Gwyneth and Alasdair took my breath way!

That was an AWESOME Highlander story

Lots of passion, laughs, sadness, action, twists and turns to boggle your mind.

The moment I started reading this I could not put it down, absolutely amazing read. Right up there with all the great Highlander novels.
The only dissapointing thing was that it had to end and I really didnt want it to, I was gladly relieved that there is a second and third installment.

I love reading books that are set in Scotland or Ireland, so My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair immediately appealed to me, obviously because of its title! I love reading books that are set in Scotland or Ireland, so My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair immediately appealed to me, obviously because of its title! When an author takes the beautiful terrain of Scotland, adds a love story, and historical elements I’m happy. My Fierce Highlander started off a little slow for me, and for the first couple of chapters I struggled a little bit to get into the book. However, I liked her descriptions of the terrain of Scotland’s Highlands, and the characters were believable enough for me to become involved in their story, and once I was involved in the plot the book was hard to put down.

To me Gwyneth was definitely a more believable character to me than the main male character, Alasdair. She was a woman in the 1600’s who was sensual, but yet sought to hide the sensual side of herself, and felt guilty due to it, because it was not acceptable for her to express herself sexually. It’s changed quite a bit since then obviously, but as recently as 60 or so years ago it was still not really considered acceptable for woman. The only reason Alasdair is not as believable for me, is because he seems almost too perfect. His wife had died two years previously and he had yet to remarry or to even enjoy sex. Gwyneth helps to bring him “back to life” in a way. He is the Chieftain of his clan, and I guess I just found it a little unbelievable that he had not remarried in order to have heirs to follow him. In the 1600’s it seems like that was one of the main goals of men who were noble or wealthy, and it did not matter whether love came into the equation. Alasdair does gain the reader’s sympathy though, because he comes across as such a romantic hero, willing to risk his life for Gwyneth and her son. Gwyneth definitely comes across as the one with faults, and Alasdair occasionally comes across as clingy or needy when expressing his desire to wed Gwyneth. Overall I enjoyed reading the book, and it was a quick, fun read. I definitely recommend it to those that are fans of Historical Romance
Novels, because I doubt you will be disappointed.(less)

The heroine, Gwyneth Carswell, is the daughter of an English earl. But she was taken in by a handsome lord who said the right things, and when he left her ruined, and pregnant, her father sent her to live with some distant relatives in the Highlands. She was 17 and pregnant, and that cousin was chief of the clan MacIrwin, and married her to one of his men. In Gwyneth’s mind, her son now had a last name, and she would never let her sensual side lead her again. She was a very timid heroine, who had been mistreated by men her whole life (when you get a glimpse of her father, you understand that it wasn’t just her abusive husband, and wasn't only physical abuse). She refuses to go by “Lady” Gwyneth trading down instead for Mistress Carswell, feeling that blending in and not bringing forth her shame and previous station would be best. She even names her son Rory, even though he’s English, so that he will blend in more.

The hero, Alasdair MacGrath, is injured when the MacIrwin chief plays at wanting peace, but ambushes the MacGrath party instead. Gwyneth has become a healer since the death of her husband, and when she finds Alasdair, she can’t just let him die. But she has to hide him, or risk death.

Alasdair leaves, but is almost caught-so when he fights one of the MacIrwin men, that man tells Donald, the chief and her cousin. They do trace him back to her, burning her home down, and killing the healer, who lived with her. Luckily she escaped...and where did she run? Straight to MacGrath of course!

I loved Alasdair. From the first moment, to the last, I loved him. Gwyneth drove me nuts a few times, especially in her constant rejections of Alasdair. By the last few pages, which I couldn't turn fast enough, I really was angry with her for her decisions. BUT, I also know why she did it, and I know that she really needed to see that what she thought she wanted wasn't necessarily what she wanted.

I did like the ending, and I did like how not every villain was sent off to jail with a tidy nice bow on the end. I'm not saying what really happened, but it worked.

This was my first Vonda Sinclair read, and it won't be my last. The Highland Hussy decrees that Ms. Sinclair is a fantastic writer, who brought so much of the reality of fighting and feuding Highlanders to the pages, that it was easy to visualize, and sympathize with Gwyneth.

Vonda Sinclair captures the excitement and magic in romance with My Fierce Highlander! Her vivid story telling brought the Scottish Highlands to life with detail and accuracy. The language used was not complicated if you are unaccustomed to Scottish Romances, just enough of that sexy brogue and Gaelic to make you tingle.

Sinclair delivers a plot that is enticing and moved fluidly with captivating characters full of dimension that were brought to life on the pages. The romance was balanced nicely with action and suspense. I was caught breathless during the most romantic scenes ever, being drawn in by Alasdair and Gwyneth’s sizzling chemistry and fiery passion. Then brought to desperation, my heart wrenching along with the characters, when Alasdair and Gwyneth reached their lowest; and my heart soared when they finally found their HEA. I was glued to this riveting story start to finish and did not want it to end.

The secondary characters of Gwyneth’s son Rory (BTW, I just love that name), who was absolutely adorable and a key element to the novel, and Alasdair’s brother Lachlan along with the rest of his clan were all interesting in their own right and the ending left a nice little set-up for the next book in the series about Lachlan called My Wild Highlander, which seriously intrigued me. I would recommend this book to all Scottish romance lovers or romance/historical romance readers in general. A superb read that all you highlander hussies out there won’t want to miss! ;)

Quick read and hooked me till the last page. I loved Alasdair but I feel wanna slap and shake Gwyneth for her refusing. When she rejected Alasdair, I got angry. Its took her a while to accept and realize how much she love Alasdair. I loved Rory too, his character always make me laugh

Who doesn't love Highlanders? Hmm? Alasdair is a mighty highland warrior with a past heartache that rounds him out as perfect hero material. Gwyneth is a heroine who has been to hell and back and will do anything to protect her son and ensure his future.

"My Fierce Highlander" is the first book that I've read from Vonda Sinclair. Let me say this...it will not be the last.

A wonderful start to her Highland Adventure series! From beginning to end, Ms. Sinclair captured my attention with the heat of battle and seduction. I shed tears of laughter and sadness as Alasdair and Gwyneth sorted through emotions that at times seemed destructive.

I loved this book! It's atmospheric, intriguing, touching and passionate. A real page turner and a terrific debut for Ms. Sinclair. 4 Stars!The story’s been done before, but it was different enough to make it unique. I love the “fierceness” and compassionate nature of Alasdair, and Gwyneth’s strength and determination. They are a charming, compatible couple. You get a good dose of Lachlan, Alasdair’s brother, a funny delightful lady’s man, in other words a “manwhore”, and I look forward to reading his book too!

I liked it, but didn't love it. I really liked it up until the point when Gwyneth's son is kidnapped and all she can think about is getting Alasdair into bed. Really, come on now. And I fail to see how the wimpy English guy, who maybe had 2 hours head start, ended up with a 3 hour lead, then a 3 day lead on the chasing guys, when 1) these are "fierce" highland warriors, traveling through Scotland and 2) the guy is a snively English lord who probably wouldn't know how to ride horse back through t...more

I really like the way this author fleshes out her mains. I not only like their depth, but their reasoning of actions and feelings. MANY romance type books have the male or female lead doing much out of stupidity or immaturity, and that is not the case here. The supporting "cast" is also fleshed out well. This story is good too, I like the no nonsense attitude of the lead female.
