I have got to stop reading Hannah Howell books. I just don’t enjoy them. All too often I find the same story or plot device just in a different book. I think this is one of those authors I’m just going to have to part ways with.

For those of you who like Hannah Howell, this is one of her better heroines. I really liked Gilly, which is funny since I didn’t care for her in Highland Knight.

Gilly has grown into a realistic and intelligent woman.

Loved reading this book. You will fall in love with the fun characters. Gillyanne is a little fireball, and sweeps Conner away with her love and strength. Conner is hansome and fierce, but needs a guiding hand in thier relationship. Have fun reading this one.

I am very new to Hannah Howell's writing, but i've read about 10 of her books in the last 2 months. Though I was entertained enough by the plots to keep reading them, I continued to buy them to see if I was going to finally see some originality from one story to the next. I feel like all the female characters in the books i've read so far are EXACTLY the same, and the men, too... for the most part. Their actions might be a little different, and their backgrounds, but their thoughts and feelings...more

Another Howell historical romance about the Murray clan, with all the similar plot devices that can be expected from that. Some of the tension moments could have been drawn out a little more; they tended to be resolved pretty quickly. Also, Gillyanne is representative of the problem Howell often has with her heroines - she can't decide how "spirited" to make them. Gillyanne has no problem waging battle (without injuring anyone) but when see is upset by seeing her new husband with his old mistres...more

I've just finished book in this series, and I must say that they just seem to get better and better. I really liked this story of Gillyanne Murray, whose character I really enjoyed in the previous book, and Connor MacEnroy. I really enjoyed the humour and found myself having a chuckle every now and then. One thing I am really enjoying with Hannah Howell's Highland series is keeping up with the Murrays and all their families, having read their stories in previous books. Sometimes when reading a g...more

I've read most of Hannah Howell's Highland books and I can honestly say if you've read one - you've read them all. They all have the same plot - Characters are great! Story lines exciting! But they follow the same route every. single. time. There is a an argument - the lovers are separated before ever admitting their love for each other - then at the end one humbles them self (usually the guy) and they reunite expressing their love in the last chapter - sometimes last page of the book. It gets t...more

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am disappointed. I did finish the whole book, though, so I could write a fair review. The only reason I gave this two stars is because the beginning was funny and I liked the heroine. She had spunk and she was quite amusing. Otherwise, it would have been an easy one star rating.

I found two major turnoffs for me in this novel.

First, I thought the hero, Conner, was a dud. His character started off well, being amused and appreciative of Gil...more

A big fan of Hannah Howell’s and having read some of the other Highland stories led me to read of Gillyanne Murray, the daughter of Eric and Bethia whom I met in the Highland Promise. Having just finished Highland Honor a few weeks ago I was excited to read Highland Bride.

So, after writing up a few of my other reviews, I grabbed a cup of tea and sat down to read Highland Bride.

I wasn't disappointed. Sometimes it is nice to have a gentle romance t...more

Do you love Hannah Howell’s Scottish romances? If so, you will be thrilled to hear Highland Bride, originally released in 2002, is being re-released in August. It has a new cover, but is filled with the tasty goodness of the Murrays’ Highland series.

This book is a classic romance set in Scotland. There is no deep story line or mystery to figure out, but t...more

This is my first Hannah Howell book and although I know this book is far along the Murray Family series, I didn't feel too lost when reading Gylliane's and Connor's story. Especially when she mentions her family's happy marriages. I thought it was a great read and pretty entertaining for her to be defending herself against three suitors at the beginning when she didn't have any before, although it's painfully obvious they want her land and care little for her.

Connor was an unusual hero in the se...more

I have always loved Gillyanne's character throughout the Murray series, her book did not disappoint.

Gillyanne Murray has dower lands gifted to her from her father's kinsmen and she decides that she is going to go visit them and the keep there. Gillyanne has always felt that men never paid any attention to her and she was wanting the romance that her cousins had found. Afraid she will never marry, Gillyanne decides she'll just become the laird of her dower lands. Unknown to her, the three lairds...more

Soooo yes! Loved this book one of the first harlequin novels I ever read. Really loved the characters in this book a lot. Conner is a pain, but one you grow to love and Gillyanne is your typical ahead of her time character that we all love seeing in these historical romances. Enough brogue to take you straight to Scottland but not so much as to make it ridiculous to read. Just a touch of fantasy/lore to make it fun. Nothing spectacular about this book, just a good gooey read!

Another great book and story by Howell. Besides liking the story and the unpredictability of the plot, I loved Gilleyanne's character. It was refreshing to see a strong female lead who followed her heart despite all the obstacles. I even enjoyed Connor's character, although I wanted to knock some sense into him for his view of wives and women. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

It started out unique, and Gillyanne actually seemed to have a brain and a personality, which was a major plus. Unfortunately, it didnt last but half-way through the book, when the male and female leads reverted to the typical Hannah Howell characters and problems. All of her "highland ..." books seem to have the same characters and storyline book after book.

When Gillyanne goes to look at the property she has inherited, she finds three Highland lairds who plan to marry her, and make her choose between them. What ensues is an interesting story when she chooses what she decided is the lesser of three evils, and as she comes to know him, finds she has to discover what he is hiding and why he is afraod to love any woman.

This is Gillyanne Murray (daughter of Eric and Bethia Murray in Highland Promise) and Connor MacEnroy--his siblings have stories (Fiona of 11 knives/Highland Warrior, etc).

Eric and Bethia didn't follow tradition of the time period and made sure EACH of their children had their own "lands." In this tale, Gillyanne Murray travels to her lands to find a feud amongst her surrounding neighbors. They decided (while she was gone) that she needed to marry one of them. Ever the diplomat, she comes up wit...more

The third of the trilogy I think, but the first one I've read. Twenty-one year old Gilly gives up on waiting for a husband and decides to go live in her dowry lands. The three neighboring lords immediately try to coerce her into marrying one of them. She holds them off for a few days with some amusings antics, but when it comes down to picking one or risking bloodshed, she goes with the stoic Connor. A standard brusque but kindhearted hero must be tamed by the loving heroine plot, with a possibl...more

This the story about Gillyanne Murray and Sir Connor MacEnroy. I loved this book! Gillyanne has been given a castle and now she has 3 suitors. They insist that she has to choose one of them. The things she does to these guys had me laughing so hard. She eventually chooses one. Fun story and a great book.
StrangeBedfellows
The book seemed like it would be lots of fun, when I bought it. In actuality, though, it was a big disappointment. The supposed romance between Gilly and Connor left me cold. There individual characters weren't believable, their chemistry together wasn't believable, and the plot itself was weak.

At first I wasn't sure if I would like the style of writing, and within the first chapter that was completely forgotten as I fell in love with the heroine. She's spunky, passionate, and witty which works wonderfully with a broody hero who doesn't want to give his heart to someone. I was weepy by the end. Sigh.

love Gillyann and how she was able to change the ways of Conner and his family.. Gillyann always made me laugh with tht smart attitude, defenitly when she was getting courted by all three clans at once.. and how she Tlked to tht lazy whore maid.. srry for language.
happy for them both..

This was a enjoyable and good read. I really loved the characters, I felt by the end that I truly knew them. Part of the charm and a downside for me was the heavy accent. While I was glad the book was true to form I also found it difficult to read in spots due to the accent being so thick.

Okay 4.5*. My 1st Hannah Howell. I chose this book cause has highest rating, and it come out as a Good read with very clever Heroine, Stiff Hero (He is a Laird) & steamy love-scenes. Without the cleverness of Heroine, this book sounds ordinary, the Hero not at all attractive to a romance, imo.

I read all of Ms Howell's books Back to Back to Back.. while this is a fun series I seriously do not recommend anyone doing so. The plots tend to be repetitious and run together. If you want to enjoy the Murray Clan, take your time.. there is much to enjoy just one at a time.
Pixiephish
Any of HH's Murray novels are great & full of impossibly sexy guys. What I love is I could picture Gerard Butler in almost any of her books, just change his hair color for some of them, but he's kind of my catch-all for sexy highlander's.

My library doesn't have all of these books. At first I was concerned about not reading them in order, but I've found that you really can just read them whenever you can get one. She's a decent writer and I like her style.
Nicole
Good but not great, easily forgotten after I put it down.

Cookie cutter plot and characters-however I can see how readers become hooked on Howell's style of writing, it just didn't do anything for me personally.
TJ
A fun read! I loved Gillyanne's spunk. I really loved the fact that, as a "high-bred and virtuous" woman, she actually acted that way and married Connor before bedding him! The characters are enjoyable AND believable

It was so very awful. I didn't only hate Gillyanne, I also hated the author for the vocabulary she used for the character. It make Gillyanne even more unlike able.

Connor & Gillyanne. Enjoyed the Murray family series. Howell crafts interesting characters and blends in description and setting very well.
