What is necessary, what behaviors do we implore when seeking freedom, family or peace? When you are in love with a man and a woman, how do you decide between the two, amidst puppies and wi...more

I wish I had more time today to tell you why this book is so wonderful. I will stop back, at some point, and edit the review but for now I'll just leave it that this is an amazing collection of stories that take risks on so many levels and Cain pulls it all off magnificently. Read. This. Book.

Winner of the drue Heinz literature award 2011 (from u of Pittsburgh) wonderful and funny short stories with nice plots in each, quite a bit of sex of all combinations b/g, b/b, g/g, g/b bonobo. Well, not ALL combos, but at least contemplated I think. The title story maybe has the best twist of them all, as it questions interpretation; of languages, cultures and customs, body language, libidos, smells, situations, our longing to see what we want to see. One story, about a politician’s wife who g...more

A collection of short stories, all different but each having themes revolving around sexuality, these are a light and easy read.
Stephanie
A wonderful collection of short stories with unique characters. Love that the author is from my hometown, Tucson, too.

Like many collections of short stories, there's a variable level of quality. "Cultivation" is the standout: a story about a single mom who raises pot to dig herself out of post-divorce credit-card debt, it's like an episode of "Weeds" told by Alice Munro. Two of the other stories, however, seem like undergraduate efforts that should have been kept in a file somewhere rather than published.
This book was a finalist for the Ferro-Grumley Award for LGBT Fiction.
