Just read the coolest kids book....its called "James Saves The Moon" by Wendy Nystrom.

Wendy's book starts in Iceland, and her son saw something-remarkable. But-at the same time, he wonders, could it really be? So what does he want to do-explore of course, after all, he is a little boy with a great imagination! James sets out on an adventure inspired by his mom and supported by his family. Along the way he makes a new best friend, and other friends. He finds out some fables of Iceland, and explor...more
"No, they are not just stories, and I can perform magic. It is not the size
of a person, it is how you use your head."

I have a two year old daughter and want her to love books the same way I do! I asked Wendy Nystrom if I may review her book, James Saves the Moon, so that I could also share with my daughter. I was not disappointed. Amelia is only 2, so it took a few sittings to read the book, but she loved the pictures. James Saves the Moon was written by Wendy for her son James, who's imaginati...more
James Saves the Moon is a sweet, short chapter book about a little boy named James who lives in Iceland. He has recently moved there from America and isn't used to not being able to see the moon on a nightly basis like back home. When he does finally see it, he is amazed by how big it is and becomes determined to travel up the mountain to be able to touch it. Along the way, he makes new friends, including a little man named Syvok, and a dragon named Matthias. Together, the threesome travel close...more
James has noticed the moon. It's brightness calls to him and he longs to touch it. To find out whether it's really as beautiful as it appears to him.

Taking matters into his own hands, he decides that he's going to try and touch the moon. Waiting for the cover of night, he soon embarks on a journey that will leave him wondering whether his experience was truly real.

Meeting one of the little people along the way, James is completely mind-boggled that the stories about them were true. Yet he does...more

First off let me say that I’m not sure what grade this book is or is supposed to be. No one told my mom the grade or if this is a pre-edit copy or not. Secondly, though I could read most of these words fine on my own, there were some strange ones that I could not pronounce and did not know what they meant (example: fjord). I couldn’t pronounce the place in Iceland—Akureyri—th...more
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - My son loved it!!
**Gifted to me by author for an honest review
This story is a children’s book and about 34 pages long with lots of fun pictures.

I read this story with my son. My son says, “Awesome, fun, creative, dragon adventure!!” When I asked if how many stars he would give it out of 5, he said it gets a 6 out of 5.

This is great story for learning. It gives real information about Iceland, and I know this because my son made me to look up to see if Akureyri...more

Wendy Nystrom has a gift...one that takes the reader on a magical journey with her unique writing style. In "James Saves the Moon", I felt like I was on the journey with the main character, James. The entire story I felt like I'd been to Iceland as the descriptions were so strong and vivid, even though I've never been there before. I read this to all of my daughters, ages 12, 9 and 6 and they were all captivated, which shows this story has such a wide range that it can reach and teach. I highly...more

What a totally awesome children’s story. James, a boy set on adventures meets a little man in Iceland, a Dragon and he ends up saving the moon. Really. But he is not allowed to tell more and neither am I. I loved the Icelandic lore woven into this book; it is not something I have come across before. The story is nice, sweet and fresh. The illustrations are stunning and I think most people will love reading this. Reading it for the ideal age group, will end up rewarding the reader as well as the...more

*I received a free ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The first thing I noticed when I began reading this book was how the author had researched it so well! The author is obviously well-versed in Icelandic folklore, history and culture. From the names of the characters to the bits of Icelandic mythology dropped in here and there, this book really draws you into the world that the character inhabits. Although I have never been to Iceland myself, this story made me feel like I was...more

I thought this book was just an adorable read! I enjoyed reading the information about Akureyri, Iceland before the story. I thought that was pretty amazing, as I learned some new things I did not know before.

James moves from the USA to Iceland while there he notices the moon, and he wants to touch it! Thus this begins his adventure. He meets a dragon and a little man on his adventure and they tell him that he is not allowed to tell a...more

What an awesome little adventure!

I bought this book to read to my 5-year old daughter before bedtime. It was nice to take a break from princesses and fairies for a change and expand her horizons. It's a bit longer than our usual bedtime books, but we both enjoyed it very much. The illustrations are epically beautiful. Every time we came to one my daughter gasped and got excited, especially when we got to see Syvok, the Icelandic fairy and Mathias the dragon.

My daughter was totally invested in...more
I just read James Saves the Moon by the incredible Wendy Nystrom. It's such a sweet tale of a little boy who learns the value of listening and working together. I loved the illustrations in the story that really bring the characters to life. James is such a precocious and innocent character who learns that all things are not superstitions and that superstitions are meant to be believed. My favorite character was Syvock the member of the Icelandic little people who lives in a pile of rocks near J...more

Just a note before I begin my review. Before the actual story starts, there is some really cool information about Akureyri, Iceland and some other things that are in the story, which I thought was rather cool. James moves with his family from the USA to Iceland, it's quite different from the USA, but James adjusts very quickly. James is a 7 year old who is either talking or thinking of things he can build, like machines. He is learning about the folklore of Icelandic people, they have a lot and...more

When James moved to Iceland from America he is amazed when he sees just how close the moon is one night, that he is determined to climb the mountain and touch the moon. After packing a backpack with supplies James slips out of his room and makes his way up the mountain. James has heard the Icelandic folklore tales of little people and had always brushed them off as tales to get kids to pay attention. It's not until he trips on a pile of rocks and out pops Syvok that he realizes these tales are n...more

As usual with children's books we start with Junior Reviewer Gallataea (age 6) and her thoughts on the book.

"I liked all of the story. Especially when Jmes got to touch the moon. He's so lucky he got to meet a fairy and ride a dragon! Can we go to Iceland so I can meet Matthias and Syvok?"

That was pretty much said in one string of nonsense mind you lol.

Anyway, James Saves the Moon is about a little boy named James who moves from America to a little town in Iceland. The first time he sees the moo...more

Remember being younger and thinking you could do anything? Remember how fascinated you were with the moon? Well, this is a story about a little boy named James who wants to touch the moon. James is from the United States but now lives in Iceland. Upon seeing the moon in the sky, James can't help but want to see if he could touch the moon. Since the moon was touching the mountain, he's sees no reason he could not as well.

James then starts to embark on a mission to climb up the mountain to touch...more
I received a copy of this for an honest review, and found myself a kid again. In this fanciful adventure with the sophistication of Jr. Tolkien but yet the whimsical properties of a children's fantasy, Ms. Nystrom, delivers a beautiful mythological folklore for Iceland. Children's book
This is my first read by this amazing author. I loved the book so much I bought it!! The illustrations are beautiful and I just love the characters. The fairy and the dragons name might be hard to pronounce for younger children, but when read by an adult the children you read them to will love it!! They will want you to read it again and again. James Saves the Moon is an adorable children's story. It gives kids hope and teaches them an important lesson: never give up on you dreams, no matter how foolish they may seem. The author adds a lot of Iceland customs and fairy tales, such as the legend of the Huldufolk. She then goes on to explain what each thing is in detail, which kind of annoyed me. If I wanted to know more about dried fish, I could look it up online. From a child's perspective though, I guess it might be easier to explain i...more

My kids really enjoyed this book. We gathered and took turns reading it out loud and they ended up taking over and reading the whole book in 1 sitting. They are excited to read the next book. The only complaint from them was that it was too short. I think that is a pretty great "problem" to have.
Have you ever looked at a big moon and wished you could touch it? For one little boy that wish came true.

James just moved to iceland with his family, then one night he sees the moon just on top of a mountain. But something was wrong with this moon. James sets out to touch and save the moon. On his way to the top of the mountain he meets a fairy and a blue dragon that joins his mission and helps James reach the top of the mountain to save the moon.

This was a terrific read, and my seven year old...more
The author, Wendy Nystrom, beautifully paints to life Iceland while also giving you some of its lore and taking you on a fantastic adventure with James. Amazingly illustrated. A fun read for any parent to enjoy their child.

Terrific Fairytale for kids!
I bought this book for my kids as an early Christmas gift. It arrived a few days before Christmas, & I let them open it immediately. The story was magically entertaining, & the illustrations very well done. My kids all piled around & we read it together. (They took over a few times. LOLz) My son really loved searching for the dragon! He has dubbed himself our on hand dragon finding expert. :)
This is a really cute children's book about a boy that moves to Iceland and then gets in touch with the ancient legendary figures that exist in the country.
During this first adventure he goes and rescues the moon.
The description of the way things look around there made me think about my time in the same town, surrounded by mountains and water.
Very colourfull drawings that really catch the attention of children (and adults too) give an extra touch to the story.
A very good combination, would give...more

This tale takes place in Iceland. James sets out on an adventure to touch the moon. He just has to, something is pulling him to go, at this time, on this night. Along his journey, he meets a few magical friends. Not only does James' wish come true, but he has a wonderful adventure that is better than any dream.

I received this book with the promise of an honest review.

I read this book and was in total amazement of the illustrations and story telling. To think like a child is a gift that no one can ever take away. This book is such a great story I believe any child would go to sleep dreaming they were in the story with James, Syvok and Matthias. This is a book that I would love to give my grade school grand sons I know they would love it. James reminds me of my oldest grandson in many ways.

I red this book to my ten year old daughter, and she loved it. (She's read it several times since.) It's a great adventure book for kids, and it teaches the lesson that it's okay to follow your dreams!
