This is a cleverly written tale of a writer’s ultimate dream and a villain’s ultimate nightmare. The story follows the lives of two people living in opposite worlds in Northern California. The reader follows the aspirations and fresh success of young protagonist, Decker Jones, as she purchases a coastal dream home in Northern California. Meanwhile, we are introduced to the dark underworld of Albert Crawford, a convicted bank robber and murderer. The author paints a stimulating, hair-raising pict...more
Being a bookworm myself (obviously), I love reading about characters who have a passion for reading and writing, so it's no surprise that I really liked Decker, the main character of this book. Her passion for writing was great and I really felt for her when things didn't (but eventually did) go her way. What I didn't really like about this book was how the chapters alternated between Decker's story and Albert/Ruby's story. They had nothing in common and I knew that they would cross paths eventu...more

This book was different.
In a good way though, not a bad way at all. At first I really wasn't sure what genre it was because the beginning started off way differently then I thought it would. I liked the beginning but I found it was a bit slow, though I see now that I've finished the book that this was all a build up and setting up the characters for the rest of the book but it took about 70 pages for me to really get into the book.

Couldn't put this one down! It was a very well-crafted thriller. There are two story lines running parallel – it's obvious they are going to come together at some point, but you are kept riveted and guessing until the point at which they do. Even after the merge of the threads, you are still kept on the edge of your seat – there are no clues how the final scene might end – it could go either way.

This is a great thriller! I like that the author starts Decker's and Albert's stories on the same day so we get to know them and get a good feel for the characters.
I love that the story wasn't predictable. I thought it would be as I was reading it, but I was completely wrong about how things ended up. I like that. The writing had a great flow and the descriptions were great. I would definitely read another novel by Ms. Werner.

I really enjoyed this thriller. I like the contrast between the two (or three) main characters.
I love scary books and this one was great as it provides a few creepy and gross (in a good way) moments. I also like how the book ends and how the author keeps us on the edge of our seat. I know I like a book when I get upset that the character is met with adversity, instead of having everything go well. If you like creepy scary books this one is a steal for the $.99 ebook price!!!

For most of the book, I had no idea how Albert and Decker’s lives would intersect. That Werner managed to keep that under wraps is impressive. The book shifts from one character’s story to another until they intersect in the last quarter of the book. The stories are interesting in their own right, but trying to sort out how they will come together – and then watching them collide – is what makes Dreams and Nightmares so compelling.

I spent most of this book wondering how the two stories would come together in the end. I loved reading the two different stories and found both of the characters likable. The author did a great job of keeping the mystery up on how the two characters would finally meet and it keep me reading so that I could find out how they came together. If you like thrillers I know you will love this book.

I have always had a voracious curiosity and loved doing creative things. The combination of the two has resulted in a lifetime of experiences. From the mundane to the ridiculous to the sublime, I've pretty much run the gamut. At one point in time I sold cemetery plots - that didn't last long - and I've also been a professional actor, my most notable role being Eliana on the soap opera Days of Our...more
