As much as it literally hurts rating this book four stars, I have to do it. I will admit to anyone who wants to hear that I have pretty much been obsessively waiting for this ending since I read Hex Hall on my birthday two years ago. Really. I have waited so long, and as much as I want to say it was perfect it wasn't.

Are you trying to make me insane, Ms. Hawkins? What happens if I die before this book comes out, huh? I will have been left with the cliffhanger of Demonglass as an ending. I hope you're happy with yourself.

. . .Okay, okay, I am bordering on the melodramatic, I know. I just can't believe this book's release is so far away! ~~That ending was evil. Not demon evil, but evil enough.~~

Normally I read books about three years after they come out which would've been perfect for Demonglass because then I wouldn't have to WAIT for the third book to come out. I wouldn't care usually, I'd just add this to my to-read list and get on with life but WTF WAS THAT CLIFFHANGER? IT MADE ME WANT TO TEAR THE BOOK APART? AHHH ASDJHNWFNLAESIUGNLD.

Please, Rachel Hawkins, have some mercy. My poor soul is dying here.

Want it... Need it!!! I kept hitting next page on my kindle at the last page.... that's just plain old evil!!! >.< I should protest the next book, but I WANT IT!!! and for some reason, I'm rooting for Cal... Archer... I trust him as far as i can throw him.

4/5/12- finished the book in one sitting.... I was suspious at first with the begining but...it all turned out beautifully besides one part....curse you Archer! Curse you! Lol (team cal always!!)

I need this book soooooo bad! After that ultimate cliffhanger I was like what...what.....woah...no...that couldn't have been it....
I actually kept on turning the page to see if there was a secret couple of pages that I was missing.
WHY ,HAWKINS, WHYYY?!
This is just cruel. :((( I think all of my favorite authors are conspiring against me to have totally awful cliffhangers and not publish their books for extended periods of time. Sighhh

Was it just me or was anyone else truly and utterly disappointed with this book? I really, really, really liked the first two, but this one just didn't do it for me - not because Sophie didn't choose the guy I was rooting for but becasue the whole book itself was pretty blah.

First of all, I LOVED Sophie in the first two books. This one, not so much. She was just downright annoying. "Hellalicious? Duck, duck, demon? Brannicks, magic and hell, ohmy?" Really?!?! I know Hawkins was writing Sophie as a character that was trying to make light of the situation, but she was trying WAY to hard to be funny. And what's worse, it seems like Hawkins knew that and she would follow the cheesy comment ACTUALLY saying that Sophie was trying to make a joke of it or that Sophie grimmace at the sounds of that.

The book itself was just okay. Don't get me wrong, there were a few good scenes in there, but most of it was blah. I was really bored definitely through the first part of the book until the guys showed back up (and no it wasn't because of the lack of romance) and pretty much up until halfway through the book. And the whole change from the Brannicks to Hex Hall and then to Ireland was just so choppy that it was disorienting, and splitting it up into Part 1, 2 and 3 didn't excuse it any less.

As for the love triangle, don't even get me started. Do not click this until you've read the book because it does contain MAJOR spoilers.

Sorry, maybe a little bitter about the whole thing.

I can't say this was a bad book to read because it did have its moments. Unfortunately, it was NOWHERE NEAR as good or as intriguing as the first two. Truly sad to see a good series end like this.(less)

First there was the dreaded 'uber-optimistic' tag. Full disclosure: that label frequently spells DOOM, yet I keep slapping it around. Shame on me. :P As if that wasn't enough, there was the way I loved books 1 & 2. Surely Spellbound was destined for the same disappointment as Libba Bray's The Sweet Far Thing, which also followed on the heels of two books I adored. But in the case of The Sweet Far Thing, I couldn't help but admire Bray's...more I'm tempted to say this book was doomed from the start.

Shame on me. :P As if that wasn't enough, there was the way I loved books 1 & 2. Surely Spellbound was destined for the same disappointment as Libba Bray's The Sweet Far Thing, which also followed on the heels of two books I adored. But in the case of The Sweet Far Thing, I couldn't help but admire Bray's willingness to "go there" -- i.e., that place beyond anything I brainstormed after Book 2. I didn't like some of her choices, but I still closed the book with a sense of satisfied completion.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Spellbound. It wasn't terrible beyond belief, but I just couldn't connect with it. I enjoyed the interaction between Sophie & Elodie. I'm also interested in Izzy's future with Torin -- he was rude & snarky & would make an intriguing fish-out-of-water love interest. I didn't even mind Cal's resolution, per se. That closing visual of him by the pond fits his character very well.

But the humor that sparkled in the first two books felt forced in #3. Sophie barely opens her mouth unless it's to say something humorous. True, it's a trait she always embraced, but in the past she knew when to shut up & be serious. I didn't see that here -- which is odd, given the serious undercurrent of the plot. Likewise, it doesn't seem like her relationship with Archer has matured since the other books...and I agree with another reviewer who asked why the council would willingly give her such a position of power when she's barely 17. And what's with that battle for control of her powers? (view spoiler)

Overall, this book felt rushed -- as if the author dumped all her plot ideas into one kettle, then stirred like a madwoman until everything was blended into 300-page gravy. For all that goes on in Spellbound, it should have been twice as long as the others (like The Sweet Far Thing :P), or even split into two installments. Either way, there was too much going on. The first section rushes through revelations about Sophie's mother's family (was that really necessary?), leaving barely enough time for a cameo from Sophie's dad (an insultingly wham-bam treatment of someone we spent so much time getting to know in Book 2), before inexplicably shoveling everyone back to school...only to have them escape yet again & make an utterly WTF journey to the Underworld -- the possibility of which has never been mentioned until midway through this particular book, therefore smelling of deus-ex-machina. Follow that with a spottily-described epic battle & some help from the all-knowing Tome O' Magical Awesomeness...yeah, you can probably guess my reaction. (Hint: it looked something like o___O.)

My conclusion is the author bit off more than she could chew with three fast-reading novels. (less)

Liked:

* Jenna and Sophie's friendship. One of my favorites in YA.

* Acknowledgement that the villains don't necessarily see themselves as villains and it's not as easy as black or white.

* Mrs. Casnoff and what ends up happening with her.

* The introduction of the Brannicks in person. Izzy is adorable (if one-dimensional)!

It's finally over! *big exhale* I'm giving this book 3 stars because, despite the quips and awesome make out scenes, it was still lacking a lot of important parts that make up a novel. But I'll begin with the things I liked about it.

Her internal monologue actually made me laugh multiple times, and she exemplifies the teenager with tons of supernatural issues perfectly. She deals with them with a certain amount of light-heartedness and fear, which I thought were sincere and real. Not many authors remember to make their heroines have a bit of common sense, and I'm glad Sophie had some of that.

Her relationship with Jenna. I loved it in the previous books, and in this one, it was the same sort of snappy camaraderie that makes them so likable.

The fact that even though the plot was serious and pretty darned freaky, Hawkins managed to insert humorous parts that alleviated the heaviness. Some could argue that it ruined the atmosphere and made problems seem insignificant, but I liked it.

What I didn't like, however, was the suddenness of the plot. I finished the book in one day, so it was a short read. But I thought everything was executed too quickly, especially the part with the war. I mean, it took up, what, five pages? And it seemed too easy. It was like get in, (view spoiler), and everything is happily ever after. There was some unfinished business, and I didn't like it. What happened to the Vandy, Torin? And the thing with the dream at the end seemed like Hawkins just wanted to hurry up and finish the book. I would've liked to see what happened immediately after the battle sequence, not Sophie just passing out.

Also, the thing that irked me most was how Hawkins solved the issue of the love triangle in the end. I mean, (view spoiler)? That just seemed completely undeserved, and I felt really sad at the end, even though (view spoiler). It just didn't feel complete to me, and it was more than cliche.

That said, I did enjoy this book, and I recommend it for anyone who wants a whole lot of magic and cheese. (less)

Rachel Hawkins has done it again! She’s created another fantastic book that I believe – is her best work yet and I have to admit, I’m a little sad that this is the finale book in the series. I believe Rachel’s writing improves with each book and I can only imagine what she could produce if she ever decided to continue writing more books to this series. And I can tell you - that I know they would be even more amazing!

The characters this time around are even stronger than ever. Sophie really goes through the worst, especially as she tries to get her powers back, but she remains her snarky-fun-loving-self through-out and we seriously need more heroines like her. Archer, Cal and Jenna all have key roles in this book too, and are fantastic secondary characters. I see them all as heroines too because they are all just as strong as Sophie and not only that, I love them all just as much.

Ummm….now Archer and Cal - these boys make me melt and I love both of them because they are both completely different from one another and I believe Sophie picked the right guy in the end!

Now the inevitable ending. I’m really happy with how things were concluded but at the same time I’m sad, because there is one major event that I didn’t even see coming until it happened, and it shocked me too my core! BUT, Rachel Hawkins ends the book so great and really left me satisfied that I couldn’t help love the overall book. When you read this book for yourself, you will see why I’m so torn and I’m sure you will all have plenty to say….so until you read it; I won’t spoil it for you.

All in all, Spell Bound was a great end to a fun series. One filled with dangerous and exciting scenes, one filled with laughs and one filled with romance and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I'm in the middle of the second and now I'm to scared to finish it because i know it will leave me wanting more and how can i stand to wait till 2012! Why oh why are the fates so cruel to me. I read the first two books today (it took eight hours to be exact) and when I finished demon glass I instantly went to the kindle store only to ddiscover that this book isn't out yet! Not only did i throw a minny tantrum I also almost died of some type of brain explosion. Why must you torture me so?

This book has happy ending written all over it. All the mysteries has been solve that left no room for disappointment at all. I love how Rachel has tied all the knots with all the mysteries. I can't believe how complicated Sophie's life is. However, I can't say that the road to that happy ending was not tough. There was lose and heart break. I was so close to tears when death happened to one of the characters. And no I will not tell you who that character is. But it was just heart breaking. And...more
