3 1/2 Stars ~ All her life Gemma had been the sensible, caring one. First, as the older sister to gorgeous and pampered Fiona, and then nursemaid to her grandfather and then to her mother. And just as she thought she was beginning her life for herself, everything collapsed, and she was carrying for Fiona's four year old son and infant daughter. Gemma had bonded with the boy, but the baby was just too much for her. Seeking out the baby's father was the only way. One look at baby Mia and Nate coul ...more

I wanted to like this more than I actually did. I bought this one during a Marion Lennox kick that I was on a few years back, and only remembered vaguely that I didn't really like it and couldn't remember why. Unless I absolutely loathe a book (which isn't the case here) I usually put it aside and reread a few years later, because I often change my opinion - indeed, several of my favourite books now are ones I didn't like much to start with.

While this book didn't have the most realistic storyline or the most well developed relationship, the characters were well defined and likeable.
There wasn't a lot of personal growth, which one would expect in this kind of story - especially for Nate, who had just found out he was a father and was struggling to accept that. I found that disappointing.
But this story had a certain charm.
It wasn't the best, as I said before, which is why it is getting three stars, but it was a nice read nonetheless.

My husband, Dave, gets up in the morning, puts on a suit and heads out into the ice and cold of Ballarat's winter. (Sadly I live in one of the tiny parts of Australia that qualifies as cold.) I make myself another cup of coffee, head
