I'm going to review all Christie's books/stories with one review. She's an awesome author. The reader gets a peek into aristocratic English life of a much earlier time period. The stories are all plot-driven, with sketchy characters, and sometimes contrived clues, but the plots are INTERESTING and keep the reader involved. There's a lot of violence,blood, guts, and evil--off screen/page--but no voyeuristic sex in great detail, thank heaven!! These books are as nice to read as curling up in your ...more

This was okay but not one of Christie's masterpieces. However, I liked the process of finding out which of the "tragic women victims" might be involved in Mrs McGinty's death.
I listened to this as an audiobook and was disappointed that the reader did not give Poirot a cheesy Belgian accent! What's that all about? I need my Poirot to speak like that. It just doesn't make sense if he sounds like he comes from Milton Keynes.

Poirot investigates a cold murder case that has caused a little concern to his old friend the police inspector investigating. Is the disinterested man arrested and convicted for the crime actually guilty or is there a little more to it than that?
Well, this is a Poirot, so it's never quite so simple. Christie in her usual good form with many a twist and turn along the way.

Poirot lovers
The clues make sense only to Poirot and Christie. The resolution is farfetched. The red herrings could start a new colony. And yet, I could overlook all this and more if only to enjoy 300 or so pages of the indomitable and wincingly vain little Belgian whose flat (a spendidly symmetrical building! Not a curve in sight!) is still my dream home.

Oh Hercule Poirot, how you warm my heart with your Belgian antics and your mad sleuthing skillz...
Always been my favorite Christie series. I like not being able to figure out the mystery before I'm done with the book, you know? Christie doesn't always manage that, but with Poirot, she has yet to fail me.
