Why I still continue this series?

If we see from ideas and originality, nothing new about "World of Ascencion" series. Ms Roane seems like mix all paranormal romance elements she'd knew. From the merry band of vampire brotherhood (BDB anyone?), winged creatures(Guild Hunter, everybody?), the smell-mate thingy (cough, cough,Midnight Breed?) and more. But, why I still read her books anyway?

That's because her world building captivated me. Ms Roane must do a hard work to make her books a lit...more

OBSIDIAN FLAME by Caris Roane is an interesting paranormal romance. It is the book #5 in the “Guardians of Ascension”,while this is my first in this series, and a bit confusing at times do the character layout,it was easily to catch up on. I would recommend to start at the beginning of this series. See,” Ascension”,”Burning Skies”,”Wings of Fire”, and “Born of Ashes”. It is a complex, compelling and powerful story of passion, vampires, seers, ancients warriors, two earths, with a few twists and turns....more

3.5 stars. I'm always glad to see improvement and this series is finally beginning to grow on me. Either that or I've developed immunity to the numerous flaws. Even though I actually enjoyed this one, there remains room for improvement.

At one point, Marguerite compared how she was feeling to having the flu for a week. Except, as a twoling, she's never been sick a day in her life. The fact that no one on 2 gets sick has been well established because, quite frankly, Roane is pretty repetitive.

A little bit of background first, if you're new to the World of Ascension series. The series revolves around a group of elite warriors, the Warriors of the Blood, who are vampires. With wings. Yep, that's right. Stay with me, now--they're pretty cool. They keep Mortal Earth safe from death vampires. Mortal Earth, you ask? You see, there are dimensional worlds, and the Warriors of the Blood have ascended to Second Earth. There is a nasty war going on for both Mortal Earth and Second Earth, and th...more

4.5stars -- A book deserving of Thorne

This outing has the leader of the WotB’s (Thorne) chasing his lady love(Marguerite) around mortal earth as she chases her freedom from the convent. Thorne has abandoned his duties, leaving the men shorthanded; he’s also separated himself from Endelle. Marguerite is determined that she will have more than her share of men and has no intention of exchanging the prison of the convent for the prison of 2nd earth – she will be free at all costs.

With Thorne &...more

Caris has created the most unique vampire world. They gain immortality when they ascend. With ascension comes incredible powers and exceptional abilities. She has added in the extremely sexy mating (breh-hedden) that takes the ascended vampires through even more changes, where they are bestowed more abilities, and further changes their powers and connections to others. The uniqueness of this series is the number one reason to read the books. They are also extremely hot when the hero and heroine...more

Overall
Just when I was complaining that all the women of these books were tall, here comes Marguerite, she’s a midget among giants! What she lacks in height, she makes up for in personality She’s independent and has decided that her life going forward, she’s going to be a selfish bitch. Too bad for her that it’s not as simple as that. She let’s her feelings for Thorne and her sense of responsibility get in the way of that. For me, she’s the saving grace of this book and for all the heroines in t...more

Obsidian Flame is the 5th installment of the Guardians of Ascension and is is the best one yet! It follows the leader of the Guardians, Warrior Thorne, and his breh, the feisty Marguerite. Marguerite has been locked away for 100 years, with nightly visits from Thorne her anchor to life. She is set free, and runs to be free of everything....being the 2nd of the powerful flame triad that will help Endelle and the Warriors in the war against Greaves, and most especially Thorne. While she loves Thor...more

This a fantastic, sexy, thrilling and totally wonderful ride!

The story is fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat pretty much from beginning to end. What else can I say but this, "I absolutely loved it!"

After my first book read of this I was not sure I would pick up another. I am glad I did.
Did not like Thorne is earlier book. I like him in this one. Roane builds a complete 3 dimensional character in Roane. We see his stuggles and his doubts, also his strengths. This was so different from the previous book I read that was lacking this character development. Marguerite evan grew on me. After all that she has suffered in her life it is easy to see why she wants freedom. Their world is full of con...more

OBSIDIAN FLAME is book five in the Guardian of Ascension series. This is Thorne and Marguerite’s book.

I was looking forward to reading this book but have to admit that it didn’t really ring my bell. I found that I enjoyed Thorne’s character a lot. He was strong, possessive, and determined to have his woman. But at the same time, I don’t think he got what he deserved in Marguerite. I felt like he deserved someone better.

In the opening chapters, Marguerite finds a random...more

I wasn't a big fan of Marguerite going into this book. And it took a while to warm up to her, Marguerite was all about freedom and being away from Thorne and Woe is me I'm a seer Obsidian Flame and I don't want to be. It came across as being incredibly selfish to me.

The background plot elements were very interesting.
(view spoiler)[Endelle, I kind of want to hug her close and protect her. In Born of Ashes we started to see behind her mask and we see even more in this one. I really want to read he...more

Lots going on in this book. I really started out not liking Margaurite very much and thogu I liked her better at the end of the book, I'm still not sure how I really feel about her as a heroine. She was quite selfish and whinny at the beginning of the book and it took the majority of the story for that to improve. Granted, she had some really good reasons for the behavior, but it really wasn't very attractive or appealing and I really wasn't thrilled with the way she treated Thorne.

Thorns had is...more

I really get tired of saying this.. but Caris Roane has done it again!! Obsidian Flame the 5th full book in her Ascension series completely and totally ROCKS!! This book could easily have lost itself in the dynamics of Thorne and Marguerite but instead Ms Roane crafts a dynamic tale of the choices of love. It is an amazing dance of delicious delight.

Thorne, the leader of the Warriors of the Blood for over Two Thousand Years, dedicated to saving the world and the lives of his men. A true second i...more

So here's the thing. I kind of, sort of, may have skipped the entire first half of this book.

That's right.

Marguerite turned me off to such a degree in Born of Ashes that I just couldn't bring myself to read about the annoying little tramp!

Especially when my heart was broken for Thorne. He was my favorite character in the whole series (so sexy and tortured and yummy) and I was hoping and hoping that he would get a fabulous heroine who would smother him with love...., but noooo! What does he get?...more

Wow, what an amazing read! It's been a while since I was this excited about a book in this genre. I am so happy I started this series! I will admit I never thought it would be this good but it truly is and I guess I need to start recommending it a bit more than I have been doing.

A small summary of the book and a little description of a very unusual couple...
Things have been getting harder and more difficult to the Warriors of the Blood with every day that goes by. Greaves' power is getting out...more

Obsidian Flame is the sexiest Ascension Warrior book yet! This time around Caris Roane delivers a nail biting romance because the heroine Marguerite well, she’ll make you wait to see how it all ends up.

Now that Marguerite has escaped all she wasn’t to do is go have as much sex as she can but she has one problem well you better make that two problems. One is Thorne and the other is the breh-hedden. She takes a long time to come to her senses about things so at times she can be a bit no scratch t...more

This is my favourite book in the series, the main couple Thorne and Marguerite have been lovers for 100 years already but this is whiilst Marguerite has been in prison, so when she finally gets out, she wants to enjoy her freedom and doesnt want to be bound to Thorne anymore... I loved this because she wants to explore her sexuality and she wants to date and go out and is not the typical virgin heroin... I also liked the fact that I get lots of clues about other stories and new exciting characte...more

Thorne, the leader, the hero, finally his book. I was ready not to like Marguerite, but, I loved her in spite of herself.
She is a wonderfully complex woman. This is the best of the series to date. I loved getting to know a little more of Estelle, and Leto. I imagine Leto will be the next story. I loved this book. All I can say is wow Claris!!!!

I just love this series. I was so excited when I heard that this was Thorne's book.He was a true leader of the Warriors of the Blood. Thorne was so much more compassionate than I had originally thought in the other books, maybe because he was always drunk before . Marguerite was not my favorite female at all. In fact she came off as a selfish brat who only thought about herself. But as the book progressed Marguerite's character improved. I hated that she toyed with Thorne's feeling even if it wa...more

Marguerite seems like she is in a difficult postion having to use her psychic abilities. It is good she gets to see her lover though. Wow she finally gets free & turns herself into a different person and find a new love sounds so interesting. I wanna read more!!! Sounds like its gonna be a great book.

3.8 stars..

Huh.

This series is getting better, if only by a slight margin- but I've enjoyed this book, and the one preceding this, more than the others before them. A good book, although I wish more people would start appreciating the sacrifices Endelle has made for all of them.

This was a good book. I wasn't sure when I first started it. Too much sex, too fast. But that was the nature of the character. It turned out very good, because of the other characters that were already part of the story. It wasn't her best one so far, but it is better that 3 stars.

As the series continues, the books get better and better. Thorne's relationships with Marguerite, his fellow warriors, his sister, Grace, and Endelle are astounding. There is so much depth. I do feel that if you didn't read the previous book, Born of Ashes, you won't understand this book.

I was so totally prepared to hate this book. Mainly because I didn't like what I saw in the heroine in the last book in the series. Thrilled to be proven wrong about her.thorne also came into his own. Now the wait for the next book.

This series is getting better and better. Loved Thorne's story but a bit iffy about what's happening between Grace, Leto and Casimir... not sure I like where that's going. I guess I'll see when the next book comes out!

I love the warriors of the blood! The story of Marguerite and Thorne was well written. I can't wait for the next book. The story of Leto...Wow! I'm curious to learn more about what Braulio did to Endelle.
Aly (Mircea) Basarab
This was such a ride! I am so happy that I waited for a day in which I could read (almost) the whole book from cover to cover. I don't even know what to say about it, I am so exited that I really couldn't censor myself :))

The character growth of both Endele and Marguerite is amazing. I was sure that by the end of the book I would want to kill Marguerite in many different, creative ways, but she lived up in the end to Thorne's standards. Revisiting all the old characters, and also meeting new gre...more

I enjoyed this book, but it wouldn't make much sense if I hadn't read the entire series so far. That said, the foreshadowing for the next book makes me really wish it was out already!
Mary Lauer
I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I am SO ready for the war to be over, eventho I know that twill be the end of the series. How many WoTB do we have left? 8-)

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire....more
