In the summer of 1814, St James’s Palace is host to His Royal Highness Prince Randolph of Petersbourg, and it is no secret that at the end of his stay the prince intends to take his future queen home with him. Deeply romantic, he wants to marry for love and not for duty. Lady Alexandra Monroe attends the royal introductory reception with the aim of winning the heart of Prince Randolph, but she is not alone:

Honestly. This whole evening was nothing short of a bloodthirsty cutthroat competition. Al...more

I really wanted to enjoy this book. But it felt like there were so many super-duper secrets that all my time was spent going "oh look...another secret." "I think I see another secret there."

I just kept waiting for the story to begin. I never felt any chemistry between the hero and heroine and the ending I was all "wait...just like that? All is forgiven? because he had a moment?" Then I got mad at the heroine for being "okay *kiss*".

A little disappointed.

If what I want conflicts with what I must have, how do I choose?

When you are destined to be queen there is not much you will not do to make sure that dream comes true. Lady Alexandra pretends to be just another woman in search of a love match when in fact she is chasing after His Royal Highness, Prince Randolph of Petersbourg. Randolph is about to rule the land once controlled by Alexandra’s family before they were unceremoniously evicted and forced to live in poverty. Having lost everyone she l...more

A quick-paced and entertaining read. This story could have easily been bogged down with convoluted plots to overthrow the royal family or with chapters of back story. Thankfully, the author revealed just enough for me to get the picture on what motivated the characters and to propel the story along smoothly. Because of their instant attraction, Alexandra and Randolph's romance was quick to take off. I love it when the hero is convinced early on that he wants to marry his lady; I find it incredib...more

I really wanted to like this book. After reading an excerpt of the first chapter, I was very excited to read the rest. Unfortunately, I did not find that the rest of the book lived up to its potential.

I can't pinpoint exactly what I didn't like. The book felt choppy to me. Like the pacing was all off. And there were parts that had me completely baffled as to why the author would do that to these characters.

(view spoiler)[The very first of these scenes was the "deflowering" of Alexandra. They di...more

Be My Prince is the first book in the Royal Trilogy. I have never heard of this author before, until my co-worker lend me her book.

The few pages are promising. The premise is a pageturner, despite it having lots of eye-rolling moments.

Spoilers ahead!
Lady Alexandra Monroe has been secluded almost all her life. She was called the Hidden Gem of England. The only reason she has been brought out of society was because of the arrival of Prince Randolf of Petersbourg. Rumors have been spreading, that t...more

BE MY PRINCE is my first novel by Julianne MacLean. As the first book in the Royal Trilogy, I have to say that I was very intrigued by the idea surrounding this series. Upon starting this book, I knew right off the bat that I liked MacLean’s writing style. It’s unique and runs very smoothly and I think this is very important in any book, but most importantly in a historical romance.

Lady Alexandra Monroe is in a predicament. Her family’s fortune is dwindling so in order...more

Julianne MacLean was a great new find with her Scottish warriors trilogy. I was very excited to jump right in to see where her new series would take me. This time we're traversing the London ballrooms as Alexandra tries to win the heart of Prince Randolph of Petersbourg. Alexandra knows she can't be distracted from her goal, becoming the queen of Petersbourg, but her attraction to Randolph's younger brother, Nicholas, leads her astray. But neither Nicholas nor Alexandra are being entirely truthf...more

Despite the lack of emotional depth and connection, it has a good plot which I find quite entertaining.

Instead of falling in love with the handsome future king, Alex find herself attracted to his younger brother instead. Despite her mother's disapproval, she was ready to leave her family and eloped with Prince Nicholas but things are not what it seems.

(view spoiler)[ Turns out Prince Nicholas is actually Prince Randolph, the heir to the throne. He and his brother switched places because Randol...more

3.5 stars, man alive, they really need to give you an option to leave half stars.

Be My Prince was a good book and I did more than just "like" it. The story was good and moved along at a pretty good clip, which is the way I like it. The only thing was, much like the heroine in this tale, I found myself wanting to throttle the hero. Don't get me wrong, the sexy times were hot and he was sexy as heck, but good lord talk about thick to get the point. I wish I could say more but I'm afraid it would...more

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant going into this book and I'm not going to lie. I skimmed a lot of it which is sad because I thought the idea behind the story was a good one and I wanted to see where she went with it. However, I had a major problem with the fact that the hero just couldn't let go of the heroine's secret even though he essentially had the entire book to do so and she never gave him a reason to doubt her. It's hard to read a story when one of the main cha...more

Boring.

Divided into four parts, the first part is where Alexandra and Nicholas meet, for this part of the book Alex and Nick circle around each other in lust. Until bam they're in love and decide to elope.

The second part is where truths are revealed, Alex is (view spoiler)[the heiress to the previous King and Queen that prince Randolph's father deposed. (hide spoiler)] And also it turns out (un)surprisingly that (view spoiler)[Nick is actually Randolph in disguise pretending to be his brother so...more

Be My Prince is a wonderful read, with twists, turns, and enough secrets to keep the reader guessing. While I found Alexandra a little cool in the beginning, that soon shifted as she started falling in love and was prepared to abandon her ambitions to be with the man she loved. Alexandra proved herself to be loyal and she put the needs of her heart first, which made it easy to root for her happy ending!

I liked the characters, but the story development didn’t fall so favourably with me being based around “issues.” The romance part of the book took up quarter of the book, and the rest just lacked in the romance department. I got more frustrated with this one than I liked it, which was a shame because the first quarter of the book was quite good. Oh well, it wasn’t bad, but didn’t inspire.

While I could guess there was 'something fishy' in the plot from an early stage, I was absolutely delighted that the entire plot didn't revolve around this happening at the conclusion - this novel pleasantly surprised me. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, but seeing that the sequel takes place from seemingly the moment this one finishes, perhaps that can be forgiven.

This is the first historical romance I've really enjoyed in a long time, and this might be my favorite of Julianne MacLean's that I've read. The intrigues were enough to keep me turning pages and the hero/heroine's love story was interesting to me right until the end. Nice set up for the next book, which I am really looking forward to reading!!!

I liked the plot but there was something missing in the characters and their interactions. I can't quite put my finger on what was missing, just that it didn't have enough of a spark to make me want to give it more than an average rating. And the ending was almost too unrealistic to me because of all the drama along the way...made the reconciliation between the two main characters somewhat forced and, well, unrealistic. I may read the second book just to see if things improve and there's more sp...more

I liked this book from the start! Only thing I didn't like was the ending. It leaves you wondering. Good thing there's going to be a second book later this year!!!
I read this in just two days..that is fast for me.

My first historical romance novel, but won't be my last! I was captivated by MacLean's poetic dialogue and surprising plot twists. I can't wait to read the sequel, "Princess in Love."

Last night as I read this book I couldn't seem to put it down the mystery of what would come next kept me in the book and turning to the next page. I wasn't sure how the story would end but once I learned Bravo. All though I hope in the second book I learn if she had a..... No Secrets to be let on

What an excruciating audio book. Hated the H, didn't understand the h, and talk about predictible. The narration only made it worse. Not my cuppa, full review to come.

I have to say, first of all, that Julianne MacLean is another one of my favorite authors. Her Pembroke Palace series is absolutely wonderful, and I like how we introduce the duchess at the beginning of this book ;) There were a lot of positive elements here -- from secret identities (which, I believe, you can never go wrong!), to conspiracy and surprising details. However, I felt there were parts where the story was choppy, and perhaps didn't flow as well. I also wish there had been more to the...more

Thank you to Fresh Fiction for the free signed copy of this novel.

This historical romance was a wonderful page-turner. I enjoyed the main characters and the plot twists throughout the story. It kept me guessing until the final chapters and I found I didn't want to put the book down until I figured out everyone's involvement in the plot. I can't wait to read the second book in this trilogy (Princess In Love) later this year...
