Highlander Unchained follows Flora, Rory & Alex’s younger half-sister. We didn’t see too much of her in the first two novels, her story is pretty separate from the first two but Rory does make an appearance towards the end.
McCarty brings Flora and Lachlan to life with a flourish. Lachland McLean, Laird of Coll, has many responsibilities as his clan’s chief, some of which pull him in different directions. And one that leads him to kidnapping Flora McLeod, a pampered lady of the court who...more

i really loved the story at the beginning of the book-the curse she put on that guy. it was a nice buildup for the story.
however, i did have some problems with this story.
first and foremost, i cant stand when they have a mistress in the book! it's bad enough when authors usually mention thier sexual conquests and all that crap, but to have the girl in there so our characters actually meets her is just beyond my comprehension. why would anyone want that in their romance book?!

3rd and last book in the McLeod clan trilogy and my favourite of them all.
In this we meet Flora (Rory and Alex's sister) and Lachlan Laird of the Maclean clan.
Oh and Lachlan, sigh he was the best part to this book :)
Flora doesnt want to be used as a pawn by her family members to make a marriage they want her to make so she decides to elope with a Lowlander. On the way she is kidnapped by Lachlan and his men and held in one of his keeps.
He means to marry her himself and she is admanent it wont ha...more

3-3.5 stars (maybe)
The 3rd book in this trilogy is much like the other two books... different Hero and Heroine, of course, but similar story. That's not all bad, but perhaps because I read them back-to-back-to-back, this book didn't quite seem as original as the first, IMO.
Lachlan needs to marry Flora MacLeod, but he needs to woo her into getting her permission to marry. Lachlan's brother is in King James' dungeon, and only the Earl of Argyll can get him released; and Argyll wants to marry off h...more

Another great read from Monica. I absolutely loved this book, it is by far my favorite in the series. Flora is such a head strong woman, a true McLeod. I loved her fun-loving, take-no-crap attitude, but she also had a really vulnerable side which made me like her all the more. Lachlan is just Wow... what else can I say. To be honest I really didn't know what to think of him at first. I think I wanted to hate him, but it was a loosing battle. The way he pined after Flora made me melt for him. As...more
I really enjoy Monica McCarty!
Flora McacLeod is fiesty, and is not one to be tamed easily.
Lachlan Maclean kidnaps her, when she is on the way to run off and elope with someone else. Which, makes for a good story, and it only gets better.
As she is take to his home, he tries to be patient, and want to woo her, and have her agreeable to marriage with him. All the while she really tries his patience by playing trick, and getting his own sisters involved in her mischief making.

This story begins with a prologue drawn from one of the most ass-kicking priceless moments in the history of wronged women. Ages ago, a MacLean laird married a Campbell woman. When she turned out to be barren, he picked out a younger model and then he and his men rowed his first wife out to a rock, tied her to a buoy, and left her at the mercy of the incoming tide. With the last of her breath, she cursed him and his family, warning that no MacLean would prosper without a Campbell at his side, an...more
A really good Highlander romance novel and a good finish to the trilogy. Unlike the second book which dealt with a character readers would have gotten to know in the first book, this book's main character is someone readers would have only heard about but not have met yet, the Macleod baby sister Flora. Both Flora and Lachlan are headstrong and fiery so their passion runs strong and hot. Most of the characters are pretty well developed although the antagonist Hector sometimes feels a bit shallow...more
4.5 My fav of the series. I loved the strong female heroine also the backstory of the amulet.Lachlan was a strong male and one of my favorite Highlanders.
Their story begins very strong with a curse that a woman put on the Macleods. I really love that aspect and it added to the storyline. Great chemistry between the 2 main characters.
Lachlan took it to a whole other level when he actually broke down the door to their marriage room! I love when things like that happen in a book its a nice surprise...more

Lachlan Maclean will do anything to protect his clan...even abducting, with the intent to woo and marry, Flora MacLeod. Flora is the greatest prize in the Highlands for whomever can get her to the altar. She, however, is determined not to share her mother's fate and be a political bartering chip. Flora challenges that 'barbarian highlander' Lachlan every chance she gets. She soon discovers he isn't quite the barbarian she first believed him to be but the Maclean curse and clan rivalries threate...more

I enjoyed reading this one more than I did the second in the trilogy, which was rather surprising, I was not looking forward to reading it when I picked it up. William the cowardly fool! What scum to just abandon Flora and leave her at the mercy of Lachlan’s clan to save his own skin, though it did turn out for the best. Flora was courageous and had plenty of fight in her, which was great; I don’t care for the weak damsel in distress female characters. I liked the hot bed romps better in this bo...more
A perfect end to a great series! I fell in love with this book and with Lachlan. He was deliciously sexy and a fantastic character to watch. I like how he dealt with his family situation, and watch as he tried to win over Flora. Flora was a really strong female character, although I thought she was a little too dramatic with her constant running away. But I can forgive that quirk as it led to a really great scene between Lachlan and Flora and trying to teach her how to swim.

4.5 verdim sana. Bu kızın ammma geniş çevresi varmış yahu :) Tüm Highland a mensup maşallah. This was my favorite in the trilogy. I've enjoyed reading the MacLeods of Skye Trilogy because a good Highlander Historical Romance is a great escape! McCarty is a wonderful writer that takes you on an adventure through the lush heather of Scotland. Fiona is a strong women who has been separated from her family because her mother kept her at court. Lachlan is strong, handsome, and takes his job as laird very seriously and will not put himself first. McCary is a wonderful writer and I cannot wait...more
Now I just can’t decide if I like Rory, Alex or Lachlan more! I’m leaning more towards Lachlan because he seems the most untamed even if Rory’s story is the one called Untamed. What did I think? I think I relate to Flora not in the fact that she wants to be the one to choose who she marries but wanting someone who will consider her. I understand that and I like it. I also really like that while the premise is that Lachlan abducts Flora… she can’t seem to resist him. I mean the description of him...more
I'm afraid this is another miss for me on the great pendulum of hits and misses that these two trilogies have become.
It all boils down to the romance and how much you care, how much you believe it, feel it. And this just didn't do anything for me. I think my main problem was the lack of build up. It went from lust + aggravation to
"love" within the snap of my fingers with not nearly enough development to make it realistic. In fact, the pair barely spoke to one another. They avoided each other whi...more

I am always skeptical of these books, but they always end up sucking me in and keeping me up late. This one was particularly charming because it turned out to be a fairly exact retelling of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, except there was no talking teapot, and there's no sex in the Disney movie. And of course at the end of the book there was the formulaic misunderstanding followed by the character's mutual realization that they really DO love each other followed by their immediate and permanent...more

The third book in the MacLeod trilogy. I liked the second one better, but this was still entertaining. Strong female character here, very headstrong, to the point of stupidity at the end of the book, but it ends well. McCarty excels at historical accuracy. She clearly does her research. This kicks her books up a notch for me.
I enjoyed this book because there were many times where you just weren't sure how they were going to end up together. (of course they do, this isn't a tragedy.) This was a good series and I did very much enjoy it. There wasn't really anything left undone or unsaid which made the trilogy finish nicely. There is a good mix of fiction with historic political happenings.
I loved the other two and the other Monica McCarty books, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one.
I liked this book, even if the fighting between the two main characters did seem a little over done. Even with that, I liked the action and plot. I also like how all the characters in her books are intertwined.

What do you get when you mix a legal career, a baseball career, motherhood, and a love of history with a voracious reader? In my case, a Historical Romance Author.
Like most writers, I’ve always loved to read. Growing up in California there was always plenty to do outside, but all too often I could be found inside curled up with a book (or two or three). I started with the usual fare: The Little Ho...more

“Taking Flora to his room, rather than any other, amounted to a public declaration of his intentions. She was his, and he was saying as much.
Lachlan didn’t give a damn what anyone thought, he wanted her with him. It was as simple as that.”

“The danger wasn’t over.
Rolling her around so that she floated on her back, he swam her to shore. A much easier proposition than on the way out. Reaching the safety of the beach, he lifted her in his arms, wrenching her from the steel jaws of the sea that had tried to claim her.
He carried her a few feet up the beach and set her down carefully, kneeling beside her.
“Flora.” He shook her shoulders gently. “Wake up.”
She looked so still. So horribly still. “Flora.” He shook her gently, his chest squeezing painfully.
“Please wake up. I need you to wake up.” I need you.
Her eyes fluttered again and then—blissfully—opened. And he found himself looking into the achingly
familiar fathomless depths. He felt a rush of relief so strong, he could have wept. Instead he kissed her.
He knew there wasn’t time, that he had to get her back, but he couldn’t help it. He needed to know that she was alive.
His mouth covered hers in a searing kiss, as if he could warm the cold from her lips with the heat of his passion. He kissed her with a raw desperation born of fear. With all the intensity of the emotions she’d exposed inside him. He told her with his lips what he couldn’t admit to himself.
In that one brief instant, he told her so much.”
