When Richard Slater receives a letter of complaint from one of his constituents, a Margaret Hayton, he merely responds with his standard letter of empty promises. Clearly, this woman is insane and must be avoided at all costs. But she will not be dismissed so easily, and when Richard finally sets eyes on the "twenty-something vision in stone-washed denim," he risks losing...more

I had no idea what I was getting into when I added this More than Love Letters to the TBR pile except for the fact that it was chick-litish and written in the form of emails and letters which attracted my attention. But in fact this story was much more than this and I had a real hard time putting it down each time I had to get back to real life.

More than Love Letters is Margaret Hayton’s story, She is a twenty three year old teacher who feels passionately about a variety of subjects that lead h...more

I only recently discovered Rosy Thornton with her release of her book Tapestry of Love which I really enjoyed. What I didn’t expect was a book like this. I opened thepage and was immediately worried. What faced me was a series of letters and emails. Not only was this the beginning of the book, it seemed that the whole book was made up this way. I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me. How on earth was I supposed to get a feel for the story and characters through letters? I am pleased to s...more

Love comes in the most unexpected, mysterious ways. The more you plan, the least you obtain .
When Richard Slater MP receives a series of letters of complaint from one of his female constituents, he's sure she is an insane old biddy who must be avoided at all costs. He really doesn't fancy meeting her face to face. But Margaret Hayton, twenty-something, is not easily fobbed off, she's brave and stubborn, and above all she's not afraid to stand up for her beliefs.
How does she figure Richard Slater...more

This book is more than chick lit.

Its one of those brilliantly captivating reads that you stumble across. Because unlike ultra chick-lit rubbish out there (“Confessions of a Shopaholic” and so forth) there isn't much publicity involved. Hence when I first spotted this book I was dubious as to its content (due to the title). Assuming that it'd be an ultra chick-lit read with a silly bimbo protagonist constantly falling into messy escapades and requiring a tall, ark handsome clichéd super rich stud...more

I loved The Tapestry of Love, but this wonderful book has now made Rosy Thornton one of my very favourite authors. I wasn't too sure about the format to start with, but this is such a clever, witty and enjoyable book and it soon turns quite unputdownable. There's laugh out loud moments, but there's tearful parts too, and it tackles some quite meaty issues in a really original way. I particularly loved the scene on the streets of London with the parrot... but this is a book full of wonderful mome...more

This was a good, cute read. It did take a LONG time for me to get into though, but, in the end I liked it. This story is told in the form of letters, emails, and various transcriptions of meeting minuets. It may sound like a boring concept (and sometimes it can be), but it is also a different spin on a story, and cut. The author is sometimes a bit wordy, but the story is cute and worth a read!

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. The entire story was told via letters, emails, notes and memos. I was sceptical in the beginning, but Ms Thornton was able to sketch clear characters and a great plot.
This is a witty, light read. It deals with 'heavier' subjects, but, really a pick-me-up.

This is an absolutely wonderful book. The story unfolds through a series of letters between Margaret, the protagonist, exchanged with her MP and various other characters. Funny, heart-warming, and thought- provoking.

I loved it!

More Than Love Letters is a lot of fun. I could envisage the characters and their personality types and the characters were developed through emails and letters. It is a light read but also has a small twist at the end.

Intelligent chic lit. Not an oxymoron. And okay, I found it in London.

Plus, a lot of fun. The letter/email/newspaper clippings format didn't bother me at all and sometimes it does. Great characters...and by great I mean real and believable. Bitter and sweet. Fun and amusingly clever at times. Try having a best friend who chooses romantic conquests by working her way through the alphabet.

Influenced by Gaskell's "North and South". Points for that.

Inspired by the BCC adaptation of N&S, with th...more

This was an interesting book. There were equally light and dark elements to the story that came together to make a great read.

Pleasant but not extraordinary. 3 1/2 stars

Great vacation read. The email letter format made for a quick read.

A novel written entirely in the form of letters, minutes of meetings and similar. I didn't expect it to work but it did - different characters came across and the story gradually built up. Not as fluffy as it would appear from the cover, either. Very enjoyable.

This book came from the literature board of C19. There is a talented lot of women on the board, many of whom have been published! This one is an enjoyable romp and I highly recommend it!

Started this one a while back, but other books with a return deadline interrupted. It's beginning to get interesting. Slow starter.

A modern take on Margaret Hale from Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South, I found this a funny and touching read that went by quickly.
