Wonderful when you're six or seven years old, up to maybe 11? In combination with Gene Autry singing on the old 78 rpm, "Ru-dolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/ Had a very shine-yy nose / And if you ever saw-wit,/ you would even say IT GLOWS..."
Why I say it may be good to age eleven: the theme of course is rejection by one's peers, "They never let poor Rudolph / Play in any reindeer games." Rejection by peers is a common misgiving of kids and early adolescents--as well as, according to the adds for ac...more

I'm pretty sure we all know the story of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. If you don't for some reason, Barbara recreates this classic tale of a reindeer that was basically the runt of the litter and couldn't lead Santa's sleigh or even be a part of it because of that. In result this makes Rudolph upset and rather sad which always makes me tear up. The way Hazen illustrated Rudolph's comeback is what makes this book better than most Rudolph books. The illumination on his nose as he meets the pret...more
This is a fun Christmas read-aloud if you give Rudolph a nasal, whiny voice and Santa a chesty, fruity voice. Richard Scarry's illustrations are precious in his Bavarian way. But the story itself leaves a hole in your heart during the season of love.
Rudolph's abandonment by all authority figures until the moment they have need of him is fairly chilling. And while you are sympathetic to the lonely and chronically bullied Rudolph he is an annoying little prat, hiding away in a pirate chest during...more

Of course we have all grown up with this book, but I didn't realize until a few days ago that it is an awesome book to use in a classroom to teach lessons on bullying. I actually used it in a church setting with our Wednesday night classes and a puppet show. I found a script that dealt with bullying. Then I pulled off the internet the "urban legend" about the man who wrote the book. Then I read the book to the group. It will be one that I will use in a regular classroom too for that subject. Any...more
This is the story book version of Rudolph that I grew up with and therefore I have a little soft spot in my heart for it. I don't think anything can really replace the famous song or even the goofy stop-motion Christmas special. But it is nice to have a readable supplement at Christmastime and this one is just fine.
This is the classic tale of Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer who overcomes his bright red nose to lead Santa's sleigh Christmas Night. I loved this story when I was a kid and I think it is a classic tale that any child will enjoy.
This has such darling illustrations, and who doesn't love the story of Rudolph... my kids love this book.
Omigod this 'golden book' version of Rudolph couldn't be more innapropriate! I was hoping to introduce my son to the story of Rudolph in a book before we started watching the tv version (which I love)... but this book EMPHASIZES SHAME - Rudolph, the other reindeer and Santa all have negative attitudes about his nose (until the end of course).
What is a simple line or two in the song is an out-and-out lesson on being ashamed of being different - and how to shame those who are.
Though I did enjoy...more

Rudolph is the classic Christmas story that almost everyone knows. It is about a young reindeer born with bright, red nose. Rudolph is teased because he is different, but it turns out he is the only one that can save Chrsitmas. This story teaches children about bullying and loving people because they are different.
A timless Christmas story of how one special reindeer saves Christmas. Rudolph is diffrent than the rest of the reindeer, so the others make fun of him because his nose glows red. But Rudalph's nose is what saves Christmas when Santa ask him to guide the slay through the thick fog. Great for the youn and the young at heart.
