PJV Quickie: Impulse delivered exactly what I expect from the awesome writing duo that is Moira Rogers: great characters, fast-paced action, hot, hot sex, and fabulous world-building.

I sure wish I’d read more of these Southern Arcana series books. I’m a huge shapeshifter fan, and Moira Rogers has become one of the best at writing solid paranormal stories with intriguing characters.
First off, I do have to say that reading Book 5 in the series probably isn’t the best place to start. While Ms. Rogers is good at filling the happenings of previous events, there are times I felt my reading would have been more enhanced if I’d read the other books to know exactly what these charact More...

"Her submission can heal him. His dominance can free her." These two sentences are why I loved Impulse. Yes, the kick ass action, the steamy romance, and the shifter intrique are all there, and makes the story read fast and furious, but it was the relationship between Sera and Julio that really made the story work for me. She ran from an abusive relationship, and still feels the same temptation to submit to the alpha males around her, regardless of losing herself. Julio is a workaholic and hasn' More...

Oh, guys! OH, GUYS! I love stepping back into this world. It almost embarrassing how excited I get when I think of all the shenanigans these wacky shifters can get into. I adore everything about this series. I love meeting the secondary characters and seeing what previous main characters have been up to and watching our current main characters twist themselves in knots over one another. *sigh* Such fun!

Moira Rogers is one of the authors I turn to when I want to read a shifter book. Her latest book in the Southern Arcana series, Impulse, is #5 and still manages to bring her standard strong world building with its mix of interesting characters. This book focuses on Julio, an Alpha wolf shifter who is one of the three wolves residing on the Southeast council. However, recently Julio was the victim of torture when he and his human friend Kat were kidnapped. He doesn't want to do any ridiculous cou More...

Favorite Lines: “One more thing, I don’t break, okay? I bend. The rest of you stand strong until you shatter, but I ride the rough spots so I can get back up when they’re over. But sometimes that means I don’t learn, because I never get hurt badly enough to teach me a lesson.” (p. 94)
Book five (Impulse) in the writing duo Moira Rogers’ Southern Arcana series can be read as a stand alone, but you may want to read the previous books to get a feel for the world and its secondary characters. I read More...

I definitely enjoyed this. Despite the description, there wasn't all that much kink in this, just a slowly developing relationship as the many issues in the Southern Arcana world proceed.
I don't think this should be read as a standalone, as the stuff with Julio's family has been developing for a while and there is some history with Sera & Julio.

I love this series, and while Impulse had a tough job following the much anticipated book 4 (Cipher), I think it was excellent. Sera and Julio are a great couple, and I like that Sera is the first submissive shifter we've seen in the series. I think the authors did a fabulous job of balancing her submissive nature with her submissive behavior in the bedroom. The sex scenes are smoking hot, but the relationship between the hero and heroine really draws you in. Definitely a book I'll be re-reading More...

As someone new to the Southern Arcana series, I went round and round debating with myself about whether I should jump in with this fifth installment. The short answer: I should have started at the beginning. This is clearly a series with a wide canvas that is very rich in characters. They're all interconnected and they have a mountain of backstory. Moira Rogers does an admirable job filling in the blanks and I felt like I caught up... eventually. But I have no doubt that I would have been able t More...

Loved this book so much! I have heard wonderful things about this series but have never gotten a chance to read one. When I was offered this one I jumped on it even though I was a bit worried that being fifth in the series would hinder my ability to understand the continuing story line. While I do think I would have enjoyed the inter-relationships better had I read the prior books, it really didn’t hinder my understanding of the book at all.

Impulse is the fifth book in Moira Rogers Southern Arcana series, and all the components one expects from this series are present.
Sera Sinclaire is New Orleans' lone submissive coyote, surrounded by dominant shapeshifters of all kinds, who would love to make her theirs, if only temporarily. Her submissive nature is absolutely necessary to help sooth all the discomforts that come with being so very alpha. Julio Mendoza is the ultimate hot alpha male, so dominant that he has earned himself a seat More...

Another great instalment from the Moira Rogers writing team! The fifth instalment in the Southern Arcana series and this time the lead characters are Sera and Julio. If you remember Julio was brutally tortured in Cipher, protecting Kat. This book sees him coming to terms with those events, and also understanding his place on the werewolf council following the political coup led by Alec in Deadlock.

This is the 5th book in the Southern Arcana series which I’ve followed from book 1 and am happy to have yet been disappointed! Moira Rogers creates some excellent characters whether they are alphas or submissive’s, humans or some other supernatural and she is consistent with each and every aspect of the series. Impulse is a sensual, exciting, romantic and suspenseful read just as the rest were and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys a top notch paranormal book. I also suggest the entire series More...

The worst part about this series is waiting for the new one to come out - you almost have to go back to the last one to remember where you are. That being said this world of shifters never fails to excite and entertain this reader with the great leads and fun secondary characters. I am a huge fan of the Southern Arcana series, in fact I love pretty much everything that the awesome duo behind the name Moira Rogers write so of course I was excited to get my hands on Impulse. I could not wait to read Sera and Julio’s story when seeing how they reacted to each other when they were together in the previous book. Sera is a submissive coyote that loves the safety of a powerful alpha’s magic gives to her. However, after an abusive relationship with her ex-husband Josh she needs to say away from all men like that. One of such men is Julio, a powerful wolf alpha who only wants to protect and take responsibility for those around them.

The characters were too flat, the supposedly erotic sex insipid, and the BDSM tags unearned. The heroine, Sera, was supposedly learning to accept her submissive nature while finding strength in it and also overcoming past spousal abuse. Now while I will give her a few bonus points for facing down her ex, overall I didn't find her very inspiring. She didn't really find her freedom. She found a more acceptable dominant male and pretty much went back to what she was supposedly escaping.

awesome story ladies! i really like the dynamics between sera and julio. it's like they really completed each other. and the way they grow up through out the book.. it's just a perfect read. the only thing bugging me is the background story, and that's my fault for not reading the previous book of the series. i literally jump from book #1 to this one and i'm missing out lots of background story.
piece of advice, do read the previous books first before you read impulse. More...

So only a few pages in and I'm remembering why I didn't read this straight away. Don't have the will for Sera. Maybe I'm in one of my moods but I'm just not up for Sera's inner monologues about her abusive ex and her instincts and what not. I mean really, she gets away from the guy who's abusing her both physically and emotionally but is worried about him finding her because instinct to mate and save her dying species will make her forget and bend over for him. You can't be serious, can you. IMO More...

Overall I enjoyed this story, but I will admit there were moments that I was frustrated. I loved Julio as I figured I would, and I had a love / hate relationship with Sera. At times I thought she was awesome and I really enjoyed her, and others I didn't care for her character at all. It was an odd experience.
I loved the storyline progression for the Southern Arcana world and look foward to seeing more in future books.

Each book holds a special place in my heart.
But Julio and Sera's has to be my favourite. There was something special about the book.
Julio being a reluctant Alpha wolf male, chased the girls, but with no responsibilities. Sera an abused submissive coyote.
They both skirt around each other, but when they decide to vacation together, you know there will be fireworks. And it was. I loved the twists and turns in the story.
Will wait to see who is in the next story :-)

Another wonderful addition to the Southern Arcana series. I loved the interaction between Sera and Julio. It was also great to see previous main characters interact with the main characters of this book. It gave the whole thing a lovely sense of continuity. Over all the ladies have wowed me again!

Overall enjoyable, but it took me quite a bit to remember the world and everyone's place in it. I definitely needed a Southern Arcana refresher before reading this.
I liked Julio and Sera and their dynamic. They have a sexy romance and they complimented each other well.

Many different interesting twists and turns to this latest installment in the Southern Arcana series.
I wasn't too sure where they were going to take the heroine in this one, but I adored her, as I adore most MR heroines, and absolutely loved the book.

A submissive coyote and an over dominate wolf try to overcome their fears and struggles together. What starts off as a way to escape what they are and what has happened to them turns into something more. Rogers does not disappoint on the steam factor. I always enjoy what Moira Rogers has to write!
