This is a retelling of the last part of old Germanic tale Nibelungenlied, the strange story of Kriemhild (called Gudrun in the book) who marries King Etzel (the Germanic name of Attila the Hun) in order to revenge the murder of her first husband, Siegfrid, by King Gunther (Gundohar) and his brother Hagen (Hagano). This one slowed down and I thought was very anticlimatic. It tied everything together, however.

Apparently the series is based on two sagas, the Nibelung and another which I can't remember. It ties in the Burgunds, Attila the Hun and Rome together.

Overall I did enjoy it, however.
