This is an anthology of the first year of Lightspeed, an online magazine which features science fiction and fantasy stories. I'm not sure I should really count this as a book read (although I am anyway), as I had already read all the stories online, so only read my favorites in the book. I enjoyed many of the stories enough to read them again (Ursula Le Guin's particularly stands out). Recommended either for those who already enjoy Lightspeed but want it on paper, or for those who would prefer t...more
I really enjoyed this collection. I at first thought it was a collection of new writers with a few big authors thrown in, I was wrong. The stories were really different and I read every single one all the way through. That is saying something. I will probably sign up for their epubs and start checking them out on a regular basis. I don't subscribe to mags so this is definitely a big step for me, and a huge compliment for them.
What a great collection. From science fiction grand masters to new faces the authors collected in this anthology were phenomenal. I can easily say that only a couple of the short stories in this collection were not enjoyable. Most were very good and some were even great and there was a wide range of styles represented as well. Highly recommended, going to check out the magazine the anthology is based on right now.

Collection of sci-fi shorts from Lightspeed's first year, back before they merged their fantasy magazine. Lots of big names here, old and new. Overall fantastic stuff, and several I will definitely read again. There were a few stories I disliked but that is largely due to personal taste over the author's talent. I was disappointed with the audio version of this as only half of the stories from the ebook/paperback were included in audio form (all of which can still be found on their website I bel...more
A collection of the first year (june 2010-may 2011) of lightspeed podcast stories.
My favorite stories from this collection:
The Taste of Starlight by John R. Fultz
More than the Sum of His Parts by Joe Haldemann
Tight Little Stitches on a Dead Man's Back by Joe R. Landsdale
Yeesh, none of these are very pleasant stories. I guess that says more about me.
