when i first started reading this book i was a little confused as to where the story was going and how the charachers were going to play out. the more i read the less i was confused and the more intrigued i became.
by the time i was done with the book i was in love. i fell in love witht eh main characters and the settings.
the story did have a lot of twists and turns and it was confusing in some places. there were even times where i wanted to throw a character aganist the wall because of how annoy...more

This was a really hard book to put down. So I didn’t. I basically blew off a Saturday (when I had plenty of other things I should have been doing) and read it from start to finish.

The characters were wonderful. I loved Rowena, although I didn’t know whether to envy her or feel sorry for the position she found herself in, as the only woman in a kingdom full of men. All I can say is "Wow!", when is the next book coming out? I'm going to have to start testing my walls to find a portal. This book captivated me so much I was barely able to put the book down. Melodie Campbell's writing is imaginative and mesmerizing as she transports her protagonist into an entirely different world. The clothing and attitudes resemble many time lines in our world history, but the surprise here is that they are all happening at once. I can only describe this story as hot, steamy, seductive and hilarious. Did I say hilarious? Yes, the humour is outrageously funny, the characters are definitely full-fledged, and the plot line is incredibly and indelibly strong.

What can a girl, a teacher of veterinary medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona, do when a very large blond man suddenly appears in her classroom wearing a tunic, leggings and a sword hanging from his belt? Of course, her first thought is that a medieval festival has come to town, but why would he be here? A need to protect the only student in the room at the time prompts her to step around her to confront this warrior. When Rowena speaks to him, he turns around and walks through the wall. Kendra, her grad student, sees nothing, wondering who her teacher was talking to.

That night she has the most real but unlikely dream of a different world, rather obvious by its two orange suns. Rowena, Row to her friends, has a gift. She can communicate in a sort of mind meld with animals, especially horses and dogs. But here there are no wild animals or birds, but a small squirrel and a fish. Suddenly a deep voice rings out "Who are you?" Dream over, she puts it out of her mind. Two days later, alone in her classroom marking tests, two men suddenly appear through the wall. When she speaks they are startled to learn that she can see and hear them. And then they are gone.

Now the dreams take on a life of their own, always taking up where they left off the night before. Once she discovers these aren't dreams but are really happening, she is shocked that in this world her grandfather and cousins live, people she has never heard of. Her mother came from this world but how could it be? It seems so medieval. She learns from the man she has met that her mother disappeared from wherever this is and has never been seen again. Unfortunately, her mother died when Row was young and she knew nothing of her background. She learns that a curse was laid in this different land that caused all babies born to be male, eventually bringing procreation to a standstill. Now we know why these men are coming through the wall, they are seeking fertile women. In her classroom, she goes through the wall and finds herself in the same place her dreams took her, and now she knows where the men are coming from on the other side. But where is this place?

This is where the story really takes off, and what a wild ride! On a quick visit back through the portal, Kendra is once again in the classroom and returns with Rowena. As a Goth girl, Kendra is first believed to be a boy as they come out of the portal to be faced again by men. Rowena motions to her to play the role, easy for her to play as she is trained in martial arts. When later Kendra is dressed in the clothing supplied in the castles and fortresses, her look changes immensely.

In this country called Lands End, with no women of child-bearing age, Rowena is alternately coupled, kidnapped, and/or married, by someone from each corner of this world. She does not know the politics of rulers, but her sharp wit and sense of humour get her through everything. Men are ready to fight to the death over possession of her. However, these men have not met up with modern women and it is a total eye-opener to them. Who is shocked more, man or woman? This book is so much fun, hard to describe without giving out all the tasty plot. I keep thinking of the main male characters as a combination of Diana Gabaldon's Jamie Fraser and the hilarious swashbuckling Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. I absolutely loved this book, especially the characterizations. The baffling complexities between the main characters, coming from such vastly different backgrounds, gives impetus to the humour, raucous skirmishes, and rollicking good sexual fun.(less)

This book is sexy, funny, and fast paced. I laughed out loud more than once and could easily visualize the action in the book.

Many readers will enjoy this book, though some will have moments of discomfort as I did.
Our heroine Rowena starts seeing hot looking men in medieval garb come through the wall of her classroom. They soon began to enter her dreams, until she realizes it's not a dream it's a portal into another world, Land's End. Rowena learns that her mother had been born in this world, but escaped. Her mother's family has been searching for Rowena (the heroine) and one had a dreamweaver build the portal.
A witch placed a curse on land's end, that effectively killed off the women living their, or made them barren. So when Rowena shows up she is one hot property. She's repeatedly married off even though she's never really widowed or divorced - sometimes in a ceremony, sometimes through the old sex three times in one night. The sex is great, but this routine starts getting old really fast.
The author though through the practical aspects of the story - rowena returns through the portal to grab important items like feminine products and her riding books.

My discomfort with the book is that Rowena is nothing but a breeder/object for sex to these men and is continually used as such throughout the book. Even the man she falls in love with ends up treating her like that as well. At least Rowena recognizes this and expresses her discomfort with the situation, but ultimately is powerless to do anything about it.

Neither she nor any of the characters seem to grow at all throughout the book, except a few who become worse persons as they react to Rowena. Perhaps that's the point.

The dialogue and story telling allow for quick reading. No retracing my steps to figure out what the author is saying. At times, however, I though the language was too casual, especially that of the medieval men. The author tries to get around historical inaccuracies by suggesting Land's End is like a parallel version of medieval England, but not England itself. Seems like a crutch, however. When one of the characters says "let's hang out" it detracts from the feel of the story. (less)

After many nights of dreams and more than one instance of tunic-clad men appearing through her wall, Rowena decides it’s time to take matters into her own hands and go for it by seeing if she can walk through her wall herself. The next thing she knows, Rowena is mistakenly married, not once but twice, embroiled in some sort of medieval curse, meeting long lost ancestors and generally getting into and out of one mess after another. To make matters worse, her goth student Kendra follows her through the wall and Rowena has to look out for her as well. Life is not so boring any more, now it’s much too exciting and Rowena finds herself dripping in men, trying to prevent a war, discovering her family heritage and going through more changes of wardrobe than Cher.

Ms. Campbell leads us on a merry romp with Rowena getting into and out of one scrape after another. She lands in the arms of a Viking, a black magic user, a wolf-king, fights off a band of brigands and falls in love. The story moves along quickly, there is always something going on and the world you are pulled into is populated with interesting and varied characters. Rowena bounces back and forth between a plucky, modern woman to a subservient medieval woman, and at times that can get a little frustrating, but all in all she is a fun person to get to know. There are a number of supporting cast members. We learn their stories and get to know them in bits and pieces along the way. Kendra is fun; she is mature for an eighteen year old and turns out to be a good friend to Rowena. The men, of course, are all strong and domineering, as one would expect from men from the time-period. I found myself having problems really liking them, and couldn’t connect to most of them.

I’m not sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book, but I do know it surprised me. I think I was expecting it to be your usual, woman lands in a different time period, falls in love with the hunky guy and learns to acclimate herself to his world. While there is some of that theme happening here, this book is not all light and fun. Rowena is attracted to Ivan but does not mean to marry him, after that she ends up being kidnapped and forced into marriage and the beds of men she is not necessarily attracted to and is even abused. I found myself wondering why after she figures out how to go back and forth through the wall, she willingly returns to this world, not once but twice.

**SPOILER ALERT for the ENDING**

Then there is the ending, come on now really? Yep, we have the cliffhanger, not the “we have an ending to this part of our story, what adventures will happen next” cliffhanger. It’s the “let’s just stop right here” cliffhanger. I’ve made no secret of the fact that I hate those. So now my dilemma, I enjoyed this book, I found it a fun story and read it in one sitting, but I hated the ending.

Do I recommend it? Yes, if you enjoy a good time travel, tunic-clad men, mysterious world, and at times a heart breaking book – this is a book you will love. And now we wait for the sequel!

This was a good book but it had many issues that prevented me from giving it a 4 star review. The first and most important is scene changes. Oh my God, they were really bad. It was so rushed and the scenes jumped from one to the next without structure, I nearly stopped reading. Please, get through this because it does get better as the book progresses.

At first, she thinks she's dreaming. But soon, the fine line between dreams and reality are becoming a blur, and Rowena tries hard to make sense of this crazy, wild ride.

Rowena is a great heroine! I absolutely loved her, and how she handled the situation she found herself in. Rowena through the wall is laugh out loud funny, adventurous, and an all around great read! The pacing is intense, there isn't a dull moment to be found, and I can't wait to be able to read the sequel.

Rowena Through the Wall does not disappoint. It is exactly as described, funny, lots of sex, adventurous, and one feisty heroine. Melodie Campbell takes us on a wild ride from the present right back to medieval times. This book is not for the feint-hearted, there's a lot of sex and some blood and gore.

I was hoping to really enjoy this book but it went from good to blah, then back to good again with a repeat at blah over and over again. Rowena was an interesting character but she ended up as little more than a pawn being passed from one man to the next.

Melodie Campbell is known for her humour and crime writing, but with Rowena Through the Wall, Campbell takes her considerable talents into the world of romantic comedy and the result is fabulous! A hot and funny fantasy that starts with a portal in Rowena’s classroom and leads the reader into a world filled with magic, men and swashbuckling adventure. Add in the kind of storytelling that keeps those pages turning and you have the perfect sizzling summer read!

Rowena Through the Wall was a wonderful read! I enjoyed Ms. Campbell's book so much. I think I must have smiled through the majority of it, laughing out loud at times. This book, while not your average romance with its delicious revolving door of heroes, is pure whimsy and so sexy. I loved this book. It held my attention from the first sentence. It was very well written, it had a great story line, and a beautiful ending. I couldn't put it down and when I was done reading it, I wanted more. The author created a wonderful fantasy world which felt very realistic. Great job! Definitely recommending to everyone and searching for more books by this author.

I read this after checking reviews on another site and it was highly rated. I was disappointed with the ending, which seemed to stop mid-story. I had no idea i was even close. Nothing even seemed to wrapup, even if this is just Volume 1. Plus, I found the actions of Rowena to be unbelievable repeatedly. I cant recommend this one.

I liked the way the plot kept changing. In the beginning from dream to reality and then in the end from man to man. I must say I wasn't sure what would happen until the very end as I noticed I only had 3% of the book left. In this way it was different and I liked not being able to predict the end.

Ok. So this was a pretty guessable read. The sex wasn't very hot, and the fighting amongst the males regarding Rowena got pretty tiresome. There is a second story but not sure I'll read it.

It really lands a 3.5, but since that is not an option, it gets a 3.

I loved the story line between two worlds, what I didn't care for was how Rowena was passed around, a little to much.

Mind you, I love a good lust in the dust story, this was just a bit too much.

I read a romance novel just for kicks and giggles off the free books on Kindle.

I'll give it two stars because there was actually a bit of a plot but it got annoying that Rowena ended up getting bedded by four or five guys in the course of the novel. Her sidekick Goth is amusing.
