The opening line of Deborah Coonts’ new book, the third in the Lucky O’Toole series [following “Wanna Get Lucky?” and “Lucky Stiff,”] is eye-catching, to wit: “Some things in life are best savored alone - - sex is not one of them.” And that sets the tone of the novel, bringing back the six foot tall Head of Customer Relations at a Las Vegas Strip hotel, i.e., the chief problem solver, hired by Albert Rothstein, owner of several of the biggest hotels in the town, usually just referred to as The B...more

There are several reasons why I like Deborah Coonts’ character Lucky O’Toole. First off, she has a demanding yet rewarding job at a high profile, high-class hotel/resort in Las Vegas. She also gets to wear designer clothes without worrying about how expensive they are, and she can wear high-heels and not trip or stumble in them (and her feet don’t get sore after five minutes like mine do!). Her tall, handsome, talented boyfriend looks good in b...more

Lucky O’Toole is the head of Customer Relations at the Babylon in Las Vegas. She has been invited to a farewell party in honor of the forty year run of the Calliope Burlesque Cabaret at the Athena Resort and Casino. It seems that the farewell party would not be a party without a big surprise. That is correct. Famed magician, Dimitri Fortunoff is performing as the grand finale. Dimitri will perform Harry Houdini’s famous Chinese Water Torture Cell trick. Something goes terribly wrong and Dimitri...more
***Though the publisher provides the free ebook, I offer the opinion.***
My Look:
Lucky O'Toole was not the only one to receive the death threats. The magician, Dimitri Fortunoff, received a few scary ones, while tonight's had been the worse thus far.
Right now, Lucky is kind of running the show at The Babylon, a mega-resort, and she's made and executive decision to close down the recently acquired Athena. However. in closing down the casino, she was putting the entertainment and staff out of a job...more

So Damn Lucky starts on a downer Teddie is overseas chasing his dreams and has left Lucky along and she is beginning to doubt their relationship. There have been so many changes in Lucky’s life since the first book in this series and for the first time it appears that things are looking pretty down for her. There are still sexual tension between Lucky and two men who work in the hotel, Dane and the chef. Lucky is also unsure how long she will be able to keep the big secret about being the Big B...more
SPOILER ALERT:
Alright Lucky! I enjoyed this book a lot more than the last. I was disappointed though, that Lucky is still having to solve murders. WTH is up with that? Why can't she just be the Customer Relations person for the hotel and nothing else? Coonts needs to just go ahead and declare Lucky a P.I. alongside The Beautiful Jeremy Whitlock and get it over with.
This time, instead of a swarm of bees, Lucky is dealing with a UFO convention and a bunch of magicians that are already getting on...more

Lucky O'Toole is the Head of Customer Relations at the Babylon Casino and Resort. Bad enough that her boyfriend Teddy is off playing rock star by seeking his dreams, but one of the acts at the casino goes south fast. A magician, hoping to replicate one of Houdini's famous acts, finds himself trapped in a box of water and dies. When Lucky goes to the hospital to hear how he died, making sure there is no funny business, she finds out that the magician never showed up. No ambulance claims to have b...more
So Damn Lucky is the third installment in the Lucky O'Toole series written by Deborah Coonts. It is a highly entertaining and well written series. The author who lives in Las Vegas knows the city well and once again has portrayed it perfectly. This outing centers around magicians, science fiction and the lore of Area 51. As always, Lucky's world is filled with interesting characters.

In the third Lucky O'Toole mystery, Deborah Coonts combines the magic of Las Vegas, a love story and murder. I've always been fascinated with Houdini stories and in So Damn Lucky, his water torture chamber claims another magician. Of course it has to happen a the Babylon Casino, and Lucky - the resident "fixer" has a mystery to solve. Her mother, Mona, has her own set of worries - a new brothel opens up down the road from Mona's, the Big Boss is let in on a secret and Lucy's man, Teddie, comes b...more
I dove right into this book after finishing Lucky Stiff, since the ending left us with sort of a shock regarding Lucky's mother. The story line in So Damn Lucky revolves around the disappearance of a magician. That in and of itself wouldn't be too strange, especially in a city like Las Vegas, but the circumstances surrounding the disappearance become more and more peculiar and suspicious. While trying to help solve the case, Lucky also has to deal with her confusing and unstable love life. Once...more
Lucky O'Toole is back for another adventure in So Damn Lucky by Deborah Coonts. There is never a dull day in her job as Head of Customer Relations at the Babylon hotel. A horde of magicians and UFO enthusiasts have descended on the hotel. Yes you read that right, UFOs!! I guess that picture on the cover should have given me a clue.

So Damn Lucky by Deborah Coonts is the third installment in the Lucky O’Toole series. I have read and reviewed both Wanna Get Lucky? and Lucky Stiff, and I’ve been having a fun time with these characters. I love the Vegas setting and all the background information on the city, and I also love reading a good mystery. In this book, Lucky is dealing with a group of magicians that may be intent on murder, her mother drops a bombshell, and her live-in lover is off touring the world with a gorgeous po...more
I've read several of the Luck O' Toole books by Ms. Coonts. They are full of lots of info so you don't get confused about who is who and what is going on. I really like that in a book. Lucky is looking for love in all the wrong places, but maybe she's found it this time. But who knows. Lucky is not really good a picking out a good guy. The last one left her. On top of all the personal problems Lucky has, she's after a killer. She has a missing magician, a crazy guy that lives under the city, and...more
This book was a disappointment after the first two mysteries that I loved. In this novel, the heroine, Lucky O'Toole, spends a lot of time boohooing about her relationship with her boyfriend, Teddy, who was a very funny drag queen in the first two books, and is now a world-traveling rock and roller. She doesn't know where their relationship stands and is depressed about it. There were very few funny scenes in the about bizarre Vegas hotel guests and events. There's a good mystery dealing with go...more
This author lives in Vegas and has created a very funny, real character named Lucky. She's in charge of the daily running of a fictional casino. There are several in the series and if you like to laugh out loud when you read, try this. The descriptions of Vegas and the people you meet will definitely prepare you for a Vegas visit. Once you meet Lucky and her mother who runs a brothel in Pahrump, NV you will want to read all the books in the series. The newest one, Lucky Bastard, comes out in May...more

Lucky is back with another adventure - or rather, misadventure. I loved the premise of this one - magicians and aliens. It was completely different from anything I’ve ever read, and it certainly kept me guessing. It was interesting and mysterious, and a lot of fun.
Lucky continues to grow on me. She’s tough and no-nonsense and independent. I like that other ‘regula...more

This book was sent to me via FSB Media for a honest and fair review. Lucky starts out having relationship issues with Teddy who is performing around the world. Lucky wonders where their relationship is headed and where it went wrong. When he comes back to see her she can tell something is wrong and in the end the two part ways. Teddy leaves her his sax, with no explanation why. And when he is back on the road he keeps calling her, wanting the friendship they once had.

This is the third in the Lucky O’Toole mystery series (WANNA GET LUCKY and LUCKY STIFF), featuring the hotel casino customer service representative extraordinaire. Lucky can handle even the thorniest issues that Las Vegas can throw at her--bondage balls, adult movie conventions, complicated X-rated situations in hotel rooms—with aplomb and finesse. But Lucky’s personal life poses bigger challenges, namely a mother who owns a bordello in Pahrump and a father who is the...OK, I'm not telling as I...more
Everyone should be reading Deborah Coonts!!! So Damn Lucky, the third in the Lucky O'Toole series set in Las Vegas, is damn good! Lucky O'Toole is a hard-working, smart, funny, occasionally insecure and brilliant at her job as Head of Customer Relations at the fictitious Hotel Babylon.
Lucky does have her romantic issues in this series entry, but it never stands in the way of customer service. Other exciting things going on include a conference of Area 51 believers, Halloween weekend, and a group...more

Another fun adventure for Lucky O'Toole, head of Customer Relations at the Babylon in Vegas. She runs all day and night in the city that never sleeps. This time, magicians and alien seekers fill the hotel and Lucky never runs out of things to cope with, along with her own set of personal problems. The series is a great antidote to those who loved the original Plum books. Lucky is funny, surrounded by good looking men and has a Birkin! I look forward to each and every one!
Feelin' lucky? These are good books! Fun and sexy. You can't help but love Lucky! She is full of moxy and adventure! No problem too big or too small that Lucky can't handle while sipping coffee and accessorizing with the best! The 'who done it' was fun...not a true MYSTERY...but still keeps you on your toes. Great Saturday afternoon book.

My mother tells me I was born a very long time ago, but I’m not so sure—my mother can’t be trusted. These things I do know: I was raised in Texas on barbeque, Mexican food and beer. I currently reside in Las Vegas, where my friends assure me I cannot get into too much trouble. Silly people. I am the author of WANNA GET LUCKY?
