My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Disclaimers: I received this book from the publisher (Howard Books) in exchange for my honest opinion.
My Overall Thought/Impressions: I thoroughly adored this novel. It was touching, hilarious, and just an overall cute read. This was Vogt's debut novel and I for one can't wait to see what this author comes up with next.

Wow, this was deep and at the same time it made me laugh out loud numerous times! I read this story in two days. While the premise sounds a bit crazy (which I admit is what drew me to wanting to read the novel) it worked very well in this situation. Every emotion Allison went through seemed very real to me. I also felt bad for the men in her life. So many women have a bad feeling that tells them they shouldn't get married after agreeing to it, but they'll follow through anyway so they won't let...more
From a writer’s standpoint, Wish You Were Here is a wonderful study in character development. For example: one of the main characters didn’t even appear on-scene until page 21 and yet, by then I knew that he was controlling, manipulative and obsessed with perfection. And that’s how Vogt excels: by showing character traits through other’s actions and reactions.

I just discovered Beth K. Vogts and she is now one of my all time favorite authors of Christian fiction. Seriously, this is one outstanding book.
Within mere pages (!) her characters seemed like real people to me. That is a wonderful ability for an author to have, to be able to flesh their characters out so well that they seem like real people.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. I kept thinking about the movie, Runaway Bride, which was also referenced a few times in the course of the story. I also found myself thinking back to my own wedding day and how there was a moment where I asked myself if this is what I truly should be doing and the man I should be marrying. It can be so easy to get caught up in the trappings of the day and doing what you think others expect you to do. In the case of my big day with Mr. O, there was no lin...more
The debut novel by Beth K. Vogt, "Wish You Were Here," managed to do something most novels cannot do.
She managed to surprise me by her "non-traditional" storyline.
Vogt took a little bit of romance - you know, boy meets girl, boy and girl decide they are in love, boy and girl decide to marry - and then shakes things up a bit, by having girl have second thoughts, because of the boy's older brother.
Sounds trashy. But honestly, it's not. In all honesty, Vogt has created a novel that showcases the he...more

My Thoughts:
Meet Seth Rayner. Self-absorbed and selfish, he's so self-assured that he never takes Allison Denman's thoughts or feelings into consideration.
Allison Denman, the lucky bride-to-be who is looking for safety. But is Seth the one to give it to her? After one kiss shared with his brother, Daniel, Alli's not so sure.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Wish You Were Here by Beth K. Vogt
Wow, what a wonderful debut novel. Allison and Seth have been dating for six years, and their big wedding day is finally getting close. And everyone is happy. Right? Well that’s the way it seemed until Seth ask his brother Daniel to go by Allison’s apartment to pick up boxes she’d packed and bring to Seth’s house. Only Allison hadn’t packed the boxes, and Daniel took it as his duty as best man to stay and help pack them. With an added Chi...more

This was a great book romance and religion play a key role, when Allison decides at the last minute to pull a Julia Roberts and run out on her wedding she knows that marrying Seth was the wrong choice now if only he would see that he doesn't really know her. As time passes Allison is drawn to Daniel but begins to question whether that is the right thing and works on doing what she wants and not what others want her to do. As she goes through moving on with her life after the dreaded wedding run,...more
The one thing that Allison Denman had learned in her six years of dating Seth Rayner was how to go along with whatever some else says, that's how she found herself about to marry him. When she finds herself kissing his brother Daniel just days before the wedding, she knows just how big a mistake marrying Seth would be, so she decides to cut her losses and run. Which leads to self discovery, and learning that God has a greater plan in store for her if only she will listen.

Just a few days before her wedding, in an unguarded moment, Allison Denman kisses her brother in law to be, Daniel, while he is getting ready to move boxes to her future home.
The day of the wedding, Allison gets almost all the way to Seth, her fiance, before she turns and runs away, stealing her best friend's car, and driving aimlessly for hours, still wearing her overpriced wedding gown, that she never cared for, anyway.

I enjoyed Allison's journey as told by Beth K. Vogt in Wish You Were Here. Allison's need for control and yet her desire to escape the box she's managed to get herself stuck in struck a chord with me. I think we all find ourselves in situations we wish we could avoid, or hadn't agreed to.
Wish You Were Here is a challenging read...not because it was hard to read, but because it challenged me to think about why I do things, rather than just do them because it's "expected".

A sweet read that will take you through a gamut of emotions! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
In five days, Allison Denman is supposed to get married, but she is having a hard time getting anything done, like packing up her apartment so she can move in with her new husband after the wedding. She even allowed her friends, including her soon to be mother-in-law and her mom, to browbeat her into getting an expensive wedding gown that she doesn’t even like. Before I begin with my review, I have to make a disclaimer:
1) I hate books with love triangles.
2) This book had a love triangle... kinda.
So, my comments should be viewed through the lens that already, I'm predisposed not to like this book.
However, there was so much to like about this story! The characters are well-developed, the writing is smooth, and the plot is believable. Setting well-realized.
On the downside, there's the whole love triangle thing, and while I liked Daniel, I didn't connect w...more

Have you ever read a book that frustrated you SO MUCH because you know that it could have been better? That was my experience with Beth K. Vogt's Wish You Were Here. I liked it up until the end, which just ticked me off in the worst way.

So, I should always start a review with my biases, right? The degree to which I enjoy a book is inevitably related to various factors, whether or not I choose to acknowledge such. And the degree to which any reader would choose to agree or relate with my opinion must in some way relate to our commonality on these presumptions, right?
So let me be clear up front.
1. I really do enjoy Christian fiction. I'm not at really bothered by "preachy" stories as long as they are not wishy-washy or written i...more

Who hasn't thought about running back down the aisle on their wedding day? It's an intriguing idea. Most of us are fortunate enough to know for sure we're doing the right thing on that day, and we can't wait to say "I Do!" But have you ever considered what might happen when the bride says, "I Can't!" That's exactly the premise of Wish You Were Here, and it is a fascinating one.

You never know what you'll get when you read a debut novel. I happen to love a good contemporary romance with plenty of tension and swooning moments. I prefer my pages sprinkled with humor, witty dialogue and in between all of that--a powerful message.

Well, my high hopes for this novel were happily answered!
My attention was caught by the high concept premise of "Wish You Were Here" - a bride deserting her groom at the altar - but Beth Vogt kept my attention by telling an interesting story about what happens *after* her heroine's impulsive escape.
Vogt doesn't spare her heroine any of the squirmy moments bound to follow such a public disaster, but even when she was under pressure, I enjoyed spending time with Allison Denman. She spends the fir...more

Wish You Were Here is Beth's first fiction novel, though she's no stranger to the writing world.
This book is fun and light hearted, and full of unexpected twists and turns. It starts with a bride-to-be who accidentally kisses her fiancee's brother days before the wedding. From that one kiss, a spiral effect takes place and Allison Denman finds herself in a mess!
