When Herman Parish continued the Amelia Bedelia books, the results were often mixed. The humor of the original series sometimes became forced, as he had to come up with increasingly complex wordplay mashups to create the humor.
In this volume, he has taken a subtler route, and it works wonderfully.

I am a huge fan of the original Amelia Bedelia stories and now I have read a few of the ones where she is a young girl and they are adorable. This book is a great book to show kids how friendships of all kinds can develope. I also love the pictures that she draws, so creative. I like the way Herman Parish has changed Amelia from a bumbling, incompetent, and borderline obnoxious adult to a sweet, outgoing, and confident little girl whose confusion is a product of being young and uninformed, rather than just a gimmick to create silliness. This younger version of Amelia is really appealing, and I think I'd actually like to read some more books about her.

Herman Parish is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off...more
