Dear Reader,
Gracious me, my beautiful daughter Rocky sure could use my help. I always knew she wasn't much interested in the local boys - but who'd have thought she'd come home with English royalty?
Trouble is, Hugh wants to buy some of our folks' land. We don't want to sell, but Rocky's job depends on her closing the deal. And though Hugh's obviously smitten, I'm not sure...more

For it to be satisfying, do we expect our life to be extraordinary?

She is moving up the ladder in her office with sights set on a big move coming soon but there is one huge hurdle to overcome. If Debbie Macomber's Blossom Street could move to South Carolina and have a little more romance in it, it would be Hope Ramsey's Last Chance series. This is small town America meets sweet romance, with a little bit of sex tossed in for good measure.
Reasons why you should read Last Chance Beauty Queen
1. Quirky Characters abounding: A down-to-earth English aristocrat that wants to build a textile factory, Rocky's dad, who owns a miniature golf course called Golfing for God!, a little girl that see...more

This is another in the series of books about the Rhodes family from Last Chance South Carolina. Like the others, it straddles the line between mass-market romance with its steamy bedroom scenes and Christian romance with its church services. In other words, it has both. The church scenes are brief and make a point; the bedroom scenes are too. Yes, you know what they are doing, and they do it outside of marriage, but if you didn't know how to and were looking for instructions, you'd be a little c...more
Caroline Rhoades was ecstatic for the opportunity to leave her small South Carolina town for college and a career, especially after being humiliated by a pubic marriage proposal that she didn't want. Years later her job for Senator Warren sends her back to Last Chance to help an English Lord obtain property for a factory. As if that isn't bad enough, the work has to be done during the local Watermelon Days festival.

Siroco Caroline "Rocky" Rhodes has left her former beauty queen days as a Watermelon Queen of Last Chance behind her. She's an administrative assistant for the Senator from South Carolina and she has aspirations to make it Washington D.C. All of her hopes and dreams rest on this one deal involving Last Chance and her family's land, that has the infamous mini-golf course Golfing for God on it. Rocky's problem is two-fold. No matter how embarrassed she is about her daddy being able to talk to ange...more
This book is another fun stop in Last Chance. I love how Rocky is trying to distance herself from Last Chance, she changed her name from Rocky to Caroline, made herself into a business profession, yet Last Chance still had a strong hold on her heart. It doesn't take long after being back that Rocky soon finds herself at the center of the kind of drama that this small town thrives on. Rocky is battling her own love prophecy from the local matchmaker, her dad's embarrassing mini golf course is onc...more
DNF
This book was a DNF (did not finish) for me. Here are some of the reasons why:
1. This book reads like a Christian romance. There are a ton of religious references such as the “Golfing with God” mini putt place, the angels and all the virtue talk. I don’t read Christian romance and maybe this is why right off the bat I wasn’t feeling this.
I think this limits the audience greatly because not everyone can relate to the religious aspects of this story. Unfortunately, I can say that I like these...more

Caroline/Rocky Rhoades is working for Senator Warren. She moved away from home at 18 and never looked back. When she was watermelon queen her boyfriend at the time asked her to married him in front of the whole town. She told him no and everyone is still blaming her for his broken heart. The senator knows who she is and that her dad is the main problem for Hugh Debracy an English Lord. And to top things off Hugh wants to buy her daddy's land. Too bad her dad won’t sell it because of Golfing for...more
Hugh Debracy, an English Baron, comes to Last Chance, South Carolina to try to complete a deal that his partner started before he disappeared. He needs to try to convince the owner of Golfing For God to sell him his property so that he can build his textile plant. Seems the land has perfect road and rail access, but the owner is not selling. Enter Caroline “Rocky” Rhodes, former Last Chance Watermelon Queen, aide to U.S. Senator Rupert Warren and daughter of the owner of Golfing For God. The Sen...more
This was a cute, small-town romance with Christian overtones. Rocky/Caroline is a hoot, and the town's quirky characters are outstanding. The hero, Lord Hugh Woolham, is a great guy with a terrific sense of humor, and his reaction to the quirkiness around him is priceless.
Overall the novel is lots of fun, and frankly I would have ranked it a bit higher, if not for two small details that bugged me a bit. 1 - the blurb on the back is written by Rocky/Caroline's mother, yet her mother is not reall...more

Well, this romance series has caught my attention and I'm ready for the next volume to read. The series is built around a family named Rhodes.
There is a husband, and wife, their four children and on. This volume involves the only sister, Sirocco Caroline Rhodes (Rocky is her nickname.) Caroline Rhodes works for her local Senator and has her eyes upon a promotion to Washington, D.C. There is one little problem...

This is a charming story full of laugh-out-loud moments and a sweet, down home feel that bring to mind peach cobbler, watermelon festivals and Southern beauty queens.
Caroline Rhodes has worked very hard to separate herself from her small town roots. She's now the aid to a senator and has been tasked with trying to convince the owner of Golfing For God to sell his land to an English lord so he can build a textile factory.

I received an ARC of this book. I was excited to read the book as it seemed interested. All was going well until the last 60 or so pages when the author decided to do a semi-sex scene. I don't read romance novels for sex scenes. They are uncalled for. She had a few curse words with the worse one being S***. I don't mind a damn or a hell, but S*** is uncalled for.
For my star rating, if there had not been the semi-sex scene and the cursing she would have received 5*, but, since she had some vulgar...more

I have never read the other two "Last Chance" novels by Hope Ramsey, but after reading this book, I plan to. I'm also looking forward the the "Last Chance Christmas" coming out in September. However, I will probably wait until closer to Christmas to read it...just because it seems better that way. :) This book wasn't amazing or something that would cause a revelation but it was a very enjoyable read. Hope Ramsay does a fantastic job of bringing the small southern town of Last Chance to life with vivid characters that you can't help but learn to care about. I have not read any of the other books in this series but that did not lessen the enjoyment in the least. Hope Ramsay has outdone herself. Rocky Rhodes is appropriately named; her relationship with Last Chance is rocky, at best, yet Rocky isn't to blame. Things only get worse when an English nobleman comes to Last Chance determined to add to the town's tax base----at the cost of Rocky's dad's business.
Last Chance is filled with quirky folk from its infallible matchmaker to a group of church ladies that would make a steamroller quail. Haley and her Sorrowful Angel add to the mayhem that's sure to kee...more

When I read the synopsis of Last Chance Beauty Queen, I remember thinking 'I have to read this book'. Ruby Rhodes has an appealing voice, and I couldn't wait to see if she was right about her daughter's love life.
Rocky is a successful woman, and she's at one step to having her dream job. She only has to convince the English royalty Hugh that he doesn't need her father's land to complete his factory's plans. The thing is, Hugh is not so easy to convince, and the idea of a ne...more

Last Chance Beauty Queen is the third book in the series Last Chance, set precisely in the town of Last Chance, South Carolina. The main characters of this story are Rocky Caroline Rhodes and Hugh DeBracy. Rocky or rather Caroline, as she prefers to be called, is a young woman who tries in every way to shake off the image of beauty queen. She’s working as an assistant for an U.S. Senator and it’s precisely this work that will introduce her to Hugh DeBracy, or better Lord Woolham. Hugh arrived at...more
Really enjoying this chick lit series by Hope Ramsay when I need a light read. I read the first two books, Welcome to Last Chance and Home at Last Chance during recent hospital stays. Really helped to pass the time. Excellent light reads.

I thought the lead couple was a good pairing. The townspeople were eccentric folks. Hugh was such a sweet guy and the description of his smile was well described. Over the book had a cute plot.
Caroline was definitely a determined women. Ithought the author did a wonderful job in making Caroline appear insecure. I liked that the author also offered some southern dialect. This was a cute, small-town romance with Southern charm and quirky characters. It is full of fun as the home town Watermelon Beauty Queen returns to settle an issue for her boss, the Senator Warren. What ensues are mishaps, misjudgments and misguided assumptions.

What fun. Stereotypes of the British peerage collide with stereotypes of Southern townfolk, and in the crash most of the clichés fall away.
This was a download from Netgalley (thank you!) which I enjoyed quite a bit: the story of Rocky Rhodes, who, and who can blame her, has remade herself in the city far away from her little Southern hometown: there she is called Caroline, and her beauty queen past is buried as deep as she's been able to shovel. Loved this romance! The small-town setting made me feel like I was home and the quirky people were so very real. The Cut ‘n Curl, the Watermelon Festival and parade…well, the town of Last Chance is a character in itself.
Hugh is not a snobby aristocrat but he does have duty to fulfill and that seems to preclude the career-minded Rocky who is already a little gun-shy because of a past event the entire town remembers. This is the third book in the series and although it can be enjoyed alone, I’m l...more
