Okay, at the end of Quest, I just about died. WHYYYY, COLLEEN! WHYYY!!
And now, we are stuck waiting until NOVEMBER to find out what happens with Ren and Kelsey!

I think I'm gonna cry. Someone buy me some tissues!

It hurts my heart to write this review, but it must be done. Tiger's Curse and Tiger's Quest were amazing. TIGER'S VOYAGE ruined everything, and I want to know why.

I used to be obsessed with this series. It was my first paranormal romance young-adult, and I credit this book for introducing me to the genre. Gradually, as I read more books, I learned the series wasn't as good as I originally though, but I still liked it.

Tiger's Voyage, the third book in the Tiger's Curse series, is amazing! I couldn't put it down! It's about 100 pages longer than Tiger's Quest and I tore through it twice as fast.

Zero star for bastardizing Hindu and Chinese myths, taking mythical figures out of context, giving them entirely unrealistic backstories and twisting them into some unrecognizable creatures. Negative star for giving untrue and unreliable information about foreign myth and culture to the audience.

Tiger's Voyage is one of those books that I just wanted to toss across the room. I don't know if my reading tastes have changed in the last year since I read Tiger's Quest or if Colleen Houck's writing style changed but I just did not like it. First off, there are several things that made me say REALLY?

-Before even delving into other issues, I must address the length of this book. Over 500 pages? Really Mrs. Houck, really? Was there an editor? I'm sorry but unless it is used to further the plot...more Tiger's Voyage is one of those books that I just wanted to toss across the room. I don't know if my reading tastes have changed in the last year since I read Tiger's Quest or if Colleen Houck's writing style changed but I just did not like it. First off, there are several things that made me say REALLY?

-Before even delving into other issues, I must address the length of this book. Over 500 pages? Really Mrs. Houck, really? Was there an editor? I'm sorry but unless it is used to further the plot, I don't need to know every single garment each character wore, and which ones were constructed by the magic scarf and I don't need to know every single meal or snack each character consumed. This book could have easily been 2-300 pages if all the useless information was cut out.
-Kelsey can not, under any circumstances be manless! After being given the ol' heave ho by Ren for the last time because he couldn't "save her" she immediately jumps on the Kishan boat because there's no way she could just be by herself!
-Despite the fact that EVERYONE: the reader, Mr. Kadam, every weird prohetic character, every weird cookie cutter stereotype character, the bad guy, Kishan, Ren, and Kelsey herself know that she and Ren are "meant to be," she still won't have it and sticks it out with the other guy because she can't get hurt again by Ren and she couldn't be alone, no way, she'd rather string along the mindless and boring Kishan?
-What is up with Nilima? She is starving herself for Kelsey's happiness? What? I don't get the point of this character unless she is there to be the back up plan for Kishan somewhere in the future.
-Why does every man fall in love with or lust after Kelsey? I don't see the allure? Which brings me to my next question. Has Kelsey always been this self absorbed, whiny, and annoying? I don't remember being so repelled by her in the past books, but I really grew to dislike her while reading this one.

I have to be honest, I didn't read the whole book, I tried, but after the white dragon says something about helping Christopher Columbus discover new lands which, I think, everyone now knows he didn't do, I rolled my eyes and threw in the towel. I couldn't stomach any more drivel. I feel sad because I thought I would be committed to this series for the long haul, but after this book, I can safely say I'm done.(less)

And yeah, I got done with this just in time today to run all over creation to find book 4. Uh, what is wrong with Costco, Walmart, Target...I finally found it at Desert Book! First what's up with Lokesh Speaking like Voldemort? "He didn't believe in good and evil-only in powerful and powerless" it sounds too much like when Voldemort tells Harry there's only power and those too afraid to seek it (or something along those lines).... Then I wanted to slap Kelsey, repeatedly. She spends half the book crying over Ren and when he gets his memory back, she's too dumb to...more Here's the thing.... THEN in the end she's willing to sacrifice heraelf for the brother's sake! THAT'S WHAT REN FREAKING DID FOR HER! And she can't take him back? Isn't it worse to just have Kishan pining after her when she doesn't feel that way about him :| And what with Kishan? So much for being observant and loyal and knowing of Kelsey and he can't see she's not as happy with him as with Ren and that Ren's wooing her girlfriend under his nose!! I couldn't help but think that the plot was very similar to New Moon... She Has to choose between the guy that makes her blood boil and the one that's sweet, loyal and reliable because she loves guy #1 too much and doesn't want to get her heart broken again becaus it hurt too much when he left her... At least Bella had the decency to admit she belongs with Edward.

What I did like was the all the quest stuff when they really got into action and all the dragons they were all awesome!... So I'm going to give it 3 stars because there were some moments I really enjoyed And some of the stuff between Kelsey and Ren... I must admit I did approve her decision before the hunt but after that I just couldn't believe it I wanted to knock just the tiniest bit of sense into her. Anyway, I really believe Mrs. Houck has potential but she definitely has a lot of work to do with her writing... Like making the characters sound authentic when they speak, mostly when they're trying to explain something (which in my opinion they do a little too much) But I feel that in terms of writing this isn't the worst book of the series and there were some really good parts. So I'll read the 4th but I won't expect much from it so I don't suffer disappointment...(less)

I wanted to absorb all that I read for a few days before reviewing this book. So here it is my official review.

I loved it. I loved the action packed adventures. The way Colleen describes the details makes it so easy to "see" the kraken and the dragons. The emotional writing makes me love, hate and envy the characters-- which is why it took me a week before I could write this review. I know Colleen won't lead me astray, and I now long to know the next chapter in the story. I don't want to post an...more I wanted to absorb all that I read for a few days before reviewing this book. I loved it. I loved the action packed adventures. The way Colleen describes the details makes it so easy to "see" the kraken and the dragons. The emotional writing makes me love, hate and envy the characters-- which is why it took me a week before I could write this review. I know Colleen won't lead me astray, and I now long to know the next chapter in the story. I don't want to post any spoilers so I'll simply say I am and will always be Team Ren. Kesley, Mr. Kadam, Durga and Phet remain my favorite insightful writing by Mrs. Houck. I identify strongly with Kelsey's sense of self and dedication to the journey ahead and her extreme loyalty( again -- still Team Ren). Mr. Kadam is less apart of this book than the previous two, so I savored the times he was shared with us. I am so glad he got to go into Durga's temple this time. I feel like it was such an honor for him to be a part of that experience, I was so excited for him. And Phet- I love this crazy little old man. His wisdom how ever strangely delivered is fabulously on target and I loved his interactions with the brothers. Oh the boys-- I personally married a Kishan, so I love him for his careful, watchful, thoughtful, trust in Kelsey, he is such a deeper character than we've seen in the last two installments. His support and unfailing love for our girl is breathtaking at times. Oh Ren- I loved you from your first hello, and at times in this book its a good thing your fictional because I wanted to shake you until you'd snap out of it, and stop with the standoffish behavior and the flaunting of the floozy???seriously!! Alas though when it came down to those final chapters and the tears were streaming down my face - the tears were for you dear Ren. Everything I know will be fully explained in books to come and it's hard to understand right now the why's, but I have faith. Super powered golden lightening has to mean something more right??

In closing I am such a huge fan of Mrs. Houck's books and her way with her characters that I couldn't not love it more thoroughly than I do. Being able to read it ahead of schedule was and honor and a privilege I can't thank you enough for Colleen.

Colleen Houck has yet again created a story with a thrilling and incredibly scary plotline. Her writing is so imaginative, every single sentence created vivid pictures in my head so I felt like I was by the characters’ side the entire time. I love the mythology the author used to enrich the story, creating a wonderful background for the prophecy. She used an incredible amount of imagination to create the challenges the characters faced in Tiger’s Voyage. Her writing is so imaginative, every single sentence created vivid pictures in my head so I felt like I was by the characters’ side the entire time. I love the mythology the author used to enrich the story, creating a wonderful background for the prophecy. But there were a lot of stories and it became a little difficult to keep them all straight. There were also some myths and stories not pertinent to the prophecy and while they were lovely and interesting, they just created a bit of confusion. In the first half of the book there were quite a few unnecessary descriptions, too much uninteresting information was piled on me and my attention strayed.

The beginning of the book was interesting, the opening drew me in immediately and promised more excitement to come. But after the first few chapters the plot slowed down and not much exciting happened until the middle of the book. And during that time the characters were dealing with their love situation and no reprieve was offered from the emotional onslaught, making reading the book tiresome. After that, the tasks that were set before Kelsey and the boys began and the plot picked up again. The ending was spectacular and completely unexpected and it left me wanting more.

I really like Kelsey. She’s the kind of main character that’s really easy to connect with. But in Tiger’s Voyage she disappointed me with her immature behavior regarding the romantic situation she was in. It was a big change from the rational and level-headed person I’ve come to know love in the previous books. She was constantly bickering and picking fights with Ren. It was very out of character for her. By the end of the book I no longer felt sorry for her and the personal problems she was facing, the constant whining and complaining just started to grate on my nerves, when much of the pain she experienced was by her own doing. Her actions and words were hurting those around her, probably more than they did her.

The ending was spectacular and completely unexpected and it left me wanting more. I had the hardest time trying to decide on the rating. There are parts of Tiger’s Voyage I hated with a passion and parts I loved with an equal amount of passion. So if you don’t mind immature bickering and the characters' indecisiveness, you’ll probably like the book more than I did. (less)

Why do I feel like bashing my head against the wall? The story was going great in the first two books...I even dreamed about the characters. I couldn't stop thinking about them because they were that catchy...and OMG! REN!

And in this book you killed it. The main character was stuck in a paradox so many freaking times, I wanted to jump in the book, pull her by her hair and throw her to the moon, then RUN to REN and make him mine forever.

Over all I liked it pretty well. I didn't like how Kelsey just used Kishan to be her boyfriend when Ren rejected her. She was tryng to love him when she couldn't. Ugh!! Kelsey was just in an emotional turmoil. It's not my favorite. Kelsey was also just a damsel in distress for like, the whole book. That really got old Colleen. I hope that the next book is better.

Then the second ended with (view spoiler). But the third ended with (view spoiler), which is quite a cliffhanger, but an action one not an emotional one. I am quite excited to find out what happens next.

The setup of this book was a bit different from the previous two. The first two start out with Kelsey in Oregon, until she returns to India, then the bulk of the book takes place on their adventure in another realm. This one started out in India and Kelsey does not return home between her second and third adventures. Which is good because I dont really enjoy the parts in Oregon as much. The first half of this book is set on a yacht, before they start their adventure. Kelsey, Ren, Kishan, Mr. Kadam, and Nilima. The usual group, while they prepare for their next adventure. It is during this time that the love-triangle is taken to a whole new level. So much back and forth and fighting between the three of them. I think it may have been taken a little too far and shifted the focus of the book a bit too much away from the curse.

In Tiger's Quest I was very impressed with Kelsey's loyalty to Ren. I was impressed that she so strongly resisted such a hot, flirty guy when Ren wasnt around. I had new found respect for her. But Kishan is unlike most back-up guys and I knew it would be possible to turn the triangle around, and that Colleen Houck would likely do it. Although I couldnt figure out how it could be done without Kelsey betraying Ren. Well, it was done very well. Not on Ren's part of course, I am still mad at him, but on Colleen's part. She convincingly took Kelsey away from Ren and gave her to Kishan, in my opinion. She did it without me having to lose respect for Kelsey. Although I did lose a little respect for Ren, which is unfortunate. But I have a new found, immense love for Kishan which I am very happy about. I love him so much I could cry! Haha, maybe not literally but when you read so much teenage romance your emotions can get a little confused. :s

But I was disappointed in how Kelsey kept saying that she loved Kishan, but she was constantly thinking about Ren. Even after she listed all the reasons why she chose Kishan (Chapter 24), which were all good reasons imo, she could barely stay focused on him. She kept making horrible analogies like how Kishan was the steady player who would last the game but couldnt score the three-pointers. I found it extremely unfair to Kishan and I think he deserves more. He loves Kelsey a lot so I would want him to be with her so he could be happy, but at the same time I think he deserves someone who could love him more thoroughly. Although I would never want Colleen to do that thing where you throw in a new girl at the end so everyone can be happy. I hate it when that happens. But the girl always ends up with the main guy. Colleen will find a way to get Kelsey back with Ren, and she will most likely find a way to do it smoothly and naturally like everything else. But will she find a way to do it without breaking Kishans's heart? :(

But this book still excelled where the first two did. The amazing adventure and mythology! It may even be my favourite in that respect. They travel the ocean of another realm and face five dragons inspired by Chinese mythology. Each dragon gives them a different task to complete before they reach the end to claim their prize. My favourite was definitely the green dragon, although it was probably the characters' least favourite. It was very exciting. :P I really look forward to what happens next. It says Tiger's Destiny doesnt come out till September, but the first three all came out in 2011, so that seems a little unfair. :( Although these books like to torment me emotionally, Colleen has somehow managed to make me agree with all the changes that have happened to Kelsey. I am taking the ups and downs with her. I love Ren when she loves Ren. I love Kishan when she loves Kishan. So I hope whatever happens in the next book, I will agree with it. Oh my gosh! I love this book! I can barely speak. You may be wondering why it took me a month to read it, so here's the deal. This one little issue was the one thing that kept me from giving this book a five star rating. Kelsey's situation seems to get worse in every book. I preferred the first two books in the series mostly because only one brother was present in most of the book. Kishan seemed to become a completely different character after Kelsey's choice. While he is dependable and sweet, Kelsey obviously loves Ren, not Kishan. Oh Colleen...it was going so so well in the beginning of this book until Kelsey returned to being an indecisive child about her relationship with Ren. Why is she such a coward?! I can't really rate the book till I've read it. But fromt the exerpt I read in the ending of Tiger's Quest: OMG!!!!!! I feel sooo bad for Kells! She most probably will end up with Ren because he is soulmate and they have a connection. However, I feel so bad for Kishan. My heart broke at the end of Quest, but Kells is right it isn't the end between Ren and her. The sneak peek made me scream when it not only confirmed it but also showed that Kells loves Kishan too. Omg I can't put into words how excited I am and it's obvious from one of Colleens quotes that he doesn't have amnesia for long. After Ren’s memory loss following his rescue in Tiger’s Quest, Kelsey must work to make the prince fall in love with her all over again if she is going to keep her growing feelings for his brother, Kishan, at bay. Matters are complicated when Mr. Kadam unravels the next portion of their journey: retrieving Durga’s mystical pearl necklace located in the mysterious Seventh Pagoda. In order the reach the Pagoda, the group must travel by sea, seeking instruction from the five dragons who know how to reach the necklace. The journey will become increasingly more risky, but not quite as dangerous as the growing tension between Kelsey and Ren as she becomes closer to Kishan.

As is often the case with series, some installments are better than others. This third book in Houck’s best-selling Tiger’s Curse series is, in many ways, the most enjoyable yet. The characters have already been firmly established and Houck has done an excellent job of acquainting the reader with the setting and ins and outs of the often complicated journey of Kelsey, Ren and Kishan. Although the next phase of the quest to break the centuries long curse is even more elaborate than in the previous two novels, it is also more original and entertaining. The love-triangle between Kelsey and the two princes is really at the forefront of the storyline, and Houck does a good job of creating a growing sense of tension throughout the novel. Coping with Ren’s memory loss was an excellent way to keep the romance between Ren and Kelsey interesting. Houck also introduces other characters that compete with Kelsey for Ren’s affections and vice versa, adding another layer to the thickening plot. Overall, this third installment in the series greatly improves upon the second, and leaves the reader with a cliffhanger that will surely keep anticipation for the fourth novel running high.

I was a bit hard on the second installment in this series, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed this third novel quite a bit. I still find some elements of the story to be a bit on the melodramatic or cheesy side, but I think that, overall, the author does a good job of mixing romance with adventure. I really grew to like Kelsey more in this novel, and think that Houck has done a good job of developing the characters. I am really looking forward to the next novel.(less)

While completely different with different adventures and characters and overall conflicts, underneath all that busyness are the same nagging problems that bother me. SAME. NAGGING. PROBLEMS.

Kelsey, why do I want to strangle you so? Get over this 'I'm ugly' nonsense because you wouldn't have TWO AMAZINGLY SMOKING HOT THREE HUNDRED-YEAR-OLD PRINCES wanting to get acquainted with your lips. Because of this odd mindset that has been going on for THREE LONG BOOKS, you've become an extremely unlikable and flat character in my mind. I've no attachment to you whatsoever. I gave you a chance in the first book, figuring you'd come to change throughout the saga. I became a little bothered how you've not changed in the second book at all. But now it's the end of the third book and I'm ready to kick your butt to the curb. You would have been a great and inspirational character to the YA genre if you weren't such a numskull.

And with the complement of the third book, I've come to notice, that while the writing has greatly improved, the imagery is almost nonexistent. Being that I've never been to India and went inside the Shore Temple, I have no idea how to picture the world Houck has brought readers to. It is imperative that, when an author writes a book that takes place in an entirely different country than most of the demographic, the imagery has to be off the charts. I assume that India is scorching hot. But, never once does Kelsey complain about how hot India can get. I mean, she goes from freezing Oregon to tropical India. I better have at least a few clues that she is a little bit uncomfortable in this new country.

And Ren? Seriously? Memory loss? After he came back, the cause of the problem was obvious to me and it bothered me how none of the other characters saw how predictable it was. And Kishan? Step back, man. Step back. You are deep in dangerous Team Ren territory.

That being said, I might as well mention that I greatly did enjoy this book. I greatly enjoy the series. But once these nagging problems stay constant throughout a number of books, they become hard to ignore and make me a little ticked off. The adventure in this book was outstanding. Being that I love and live right next to the ocean, I enjoyed being taken on this aquatic adventure that led me all the way to the abysmal depths of the ocean. Jellyfish! I was so happy to see them cuties included in the story.

And once again, while my review may seem like I am totally bashing the book to bits and pieces, I have to mention that I loved the book. It's more of the action and adventure and Indian mythology/prophecy thing that sucked me in. I can see why people have dropped the book--I just named all the reasons above--and maybe I'm being masochistic, but I will finish the series and hope that something good, at least, comes from all of those pesky problems.

Firstly let me just say that I’m disappointed in this book cover, not what’s on the cover but instead the colour of the cover itself. Colour wise, it looks too much like the first one. How can you go from a blue, to an orangey to then a bluey-purple? The first two are such bright and vibrant book covers that it makes me feel disappointed in this one. Usually when it comes to book colours there are three primal colours: blue, red and green. Now we have already had the first two, so with that in mind i think the cover should have been green with a white dragon on front. This would have suited the other two books in the series. I made a version that i think would have looked much better (see above). Sorry, but it just really bugged me :)

Moving on from that, there were lots of action in this novel which i liked and lots of challenges that our main characters have to complete to further themselves in their journey. The task in this book is to find and retrieve Druga's necklace. Each task has them finding more information in locating the necklace. Aside from this quest there is also Kelsey's quest of finding the right man, of choosing between the formidable brothers, not to mention sexy ;): Kishan and Ren. The two brothers are constantly vying for her affections in this novel (who else is jealous of Kelsey???!! Damn! I wish i was in her position). While Kelsey does decide on a man in this book, she needs to discover if it was the right choice.

A good read, however I do think this book was quiet silly - i mean dragons?? Come on.. The story was just a bit too far fethched and in no way compares to the previous two installments. This novel is the weakest of the three. It was still an interesting read and ending which makes me very anxious for the next novel in the series. Though i am surprised there are going to be 5 novels in the story, I’m curious how Houck is going to draw out the story for another 2. I would have thought the 4th would be the last. Can't wait to discover what she manages to come up with in the next novel, I hope it isn't too silly/stupid and helps to bring back this series to it's former glory. I’m very curious to find out what the cover will look like, hopefully it is a bright and different colour so that way I’m not bitching about it in the next books review :P
