I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but I was hooked from the first page. I was a bit disconcerted, however, because this is the first book that I can recall reading where pure biomedical science fiction and Christian fiction are so intertwined. I waited awhile to read it because I couldn't wrap my brain around the subject matter. I'm rather picky and have to be in just the right mood for certain books.

This story took me a while to get though, and I don't know why. The premise was interesting and I wanted to know what was next, but there was something about it that didn't grab me as well as I hoped. Overall though, it was an interesting idea.

Replication is a great story, full of exciting and dramatic twists. If you like suspenseful, meaningful stories, you will love this one.
Abby Goyer is a high school student who is dealing with the death of her mother and also with the fact that her father has been involved in some unethical research practices at work. Now that he's moved them to Alaska, things really get weird. Especially when she discovers a kid who looks exactly like the creepy jock at her school. And then she finds o...more

Replication by Jill Williamson is a story about a clone nicknamed Martyr who just wants to see the sky before he “expires.” He then runs into a young woman named Abby Goyer. Soon, they unravel the mystery behind Jason Farms, the place where Martyr comes from. The story gets more intense once they are on the run from Dr. Kane, the founder of Jason Farms. Martyr will now have to choose between serving the purpose for which he was made by Dr. Kane, or to serve God`s purpose.

Jill Williamson exposes a host of quandaries in her latest release, Replication. When Dr. Goyer accepts a new position at Jason Farms in remote Alaska, his daughter Abby is faced with the grueling task of making new friends in a high school that is nothing like the one back home. And between the odd way her father is behaving and the unwanted advances from the local jock, Abby misses her deceased mother desperately.

Martyr has lived his whole life in a colorless, windowless world, fulfilling her purpose by being used in experiments to keep the rest of the population safe. He and the other Jasons are educated and cared for, but often the target of horrible abuse by doctors and each other. When a new doctor arrives, Martyr finds a little hope that when he “expires” on his eighteenth birthday, someone may care for the “broken” boy he has been trying to protect. The new Dr. Goyer slowly starts to uncover the co...more
Replication's finest achievement in my mind is the genuine believability of the heroine, Abby Goyer. She is fun, clever, quick-witted, mature, and a complete joy to be around, especially on an adventure. Williamson delves into human cloning and its ramifications with a professional and incisive touch. While the book is light on science and technique, it makes no mis-steps that I can see in putting forth a believable near-future scenario. The pace is quick with a nice mix of mystery, investigatio...more

I have a very interesting book to review today. It is a YA sci-fi called Replication by Jill Williamson. The novel deals with cloning and when science goes too far.
The Story- In the underground labs of Jason Farms, live 55 boys, all clones. One of these clones, Martyr, is anxiously awaiting his eighteenth birthday, the day he expires. He is excited to fulfill his purpose, to save humanity.

Martyr is unique and so is the first time he eats M&M’s which every teenager should document as well as watching TV and well you know. 4.5 stars - Ah what the hell, it's worthy of 5 stars!
I had my doubts and didn't think I'd like this book as much as I did, but I ended up loving it. The dialogue wasn't particularly superb, but I loved the concept, the character development, the plot execution and all the little surprises Williamson threw in there. The story was quite intriguing, and I found myself flipping through the pages to find out what happens next.

What if almost everyone around you looked exactly like you? What if you were told your entire life that the air above ground was toxic and that your purpose in life was to save the people who live above ground from the toxic air by giving your life to make an antidote? What if you found out it was all lies?

I wasn't so sure that I would really enjoy this one, but I honestly did. Its kind of sci-fi advance genetics but also seemed a bit dystopian in style to me too, which was great. There's mystery, nail biting suspense, action and even murder in this book, as well as a little awkward teenage romance. How long did it take me to read this book? Just three sittings, I truly did not want to put it down. I loved the character of the clone J:3:3 or Martyr as his fellow clones call him and the guards nick...more
I won this book here on goodreads. So far it's pretty interesting.
First off I need to say that I really like the cover. Fits the book perfectly.
This was another quick read, and I really enjoyed it. The story was very interesting, and different than other sci-fi books I've read. It made you think about what might happen if they did clone people. I liked how they still had their own personalities. I really believe they would be totally different than each other in that way.

What first caught my attention was the cover of this book. I mean it looks like something from the movie I, Robot. The book description sounded so new and unique, nobody has done a YA book about clones, right?

Most of us don’t expect to die anytime soon, but Martyr, a.k.a. J:3:3, knows that he is set to expire on his eighteenth birthday. The medical experiments that he and the other clones in the deep-underground facility endure on a daily basis will help save human beings dying on the face of a now-toxic planet, and so Martyr is proud of his sacrifice—if he could only have one wish first—to see the sky. It is this desire that sets in motion a series of events ...more

The minute I saw the words "cloning farm" I knew I had to read this book, but at the same time I wasn't sure I'd like it much, given the 'religious' tags on it. I'm glad I skipped them and read it.

I like teen fiction and I enjoy science fiction but I have traditionally not cared as much for inspirational/christian fiction and this book is all three. I also enjoyed this tale of cloning gone wrong. J 3:3 is one among many boys/young men who all ALMOST the same. Some, though, are deformed or mentally unstable. J 3:3 is just curious, kind and takes care of the some of the Js that can't protect themselves in their underground laboratory where they have been raised to expire at the age of 18...more
Wow! I had never EVER read a story about clones! Mrs. Williamson did an exceptional job in creating this story; it is something new, completely original. With so many authors writing about vampires and all types of fairy tales it is nice to find something different. I loved the characters and was amazed by how well everything was done, the only thing I feel Williamson could have carried out better was the ending, I felt that she wrapped everything up in a bit of a rush, and I wanted more… still,...more

Excellent book!! Made me think about genetic experimentation- is it right or wrong? Are we attempting to play God?

When Martyr, a clone, escapes from the lab to see the sky, he acidentally goes to one of the doctor's house and meets his daughter, Abby, who tells him the truth of the world and leads them to try to figure out how to free the other clones. All I can say is... AWESOME! READ THIS BOOK. Thank you.

When I first read the blurb I loved the concept (and the cover!). As much as I love zombies, paranormal, and dystopian books, cloning just seems much closer to what is happening in the world, and a much more possible event . Which is actually scary in an entirely different way.
The opening chapter hooked me immediately. Martyr (Marty as he eventually becomes) has such an amazing view of his world, and even with the point of view shifting between him and Abby, it's Martyr's perspective...more

Martyr, also known as Jason 3:3, is just one of many Jasons living on Jason's Farm. He will expire on his 18th birthday and his blood will be used as an antidote for the people who live above ground breathing toxic air. At least that is what he has been told all his life. He has never been outside and dreams of seeing the sky before he expires. But what if what he's been told is a lie and the air isn't toxic? What is his real purpose in life?

Jill was raised in rural Alaska. Alone with her thoughts and the moose, daydreaming was a favorite pastime. As was reading.
She always loved reading. She started out with Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Little House on the Prairie, the Hobbit, and The Chronicles of Narnia. She loves just about every genre out there, but her all time favorites are fantasy and suspense.
