I thought the plot was stronger than the first book, but I still feel like the language is too stiff. Possibly from translation, as I can't imagine how the book was translated (and sold!) in 18 languages if it was originally as stiff as it reads. I still find Amos annoying, as he has absolutely zero flaws and knows exactly what to do in any setting. (That makes you boring, young mask wearer!) Ah, well. It will have some fans who aren't particularly interested in detailed and in-depth fantasies. ...more

easy read. okay kid book. if he is trying to make his on world he is not doing a good job. he is pulling Greek mythology and other historical fantasy material to make his on world. if he wants to have his on world he needs his on creation. if his world is in the past of our world it is okay.

these books are quick reads with a lot of action. this one also has a lot of mythology and suspense - really enjoyable. i will have to see if there are more books in the series or if i have to wait for him to write them.
