What a great book! I really felt for the characters, and the bad guys actions just boiled my blood! Loved this book!

*Full review from Words I Write Crazy 05/26

Well, this was a fantastic book. The characters had a fight that was hard to overcome, the bad guys had all the cards, and only luck and smarts helped them fight back. You just had to root for them, from Dean losing his ex-wife, and having to take the blame, and having to face his best friend-his ex-wife's brother-and have said friend want

Imagine a pure form of life...

This phenomenal and newly discovered species is comprised entirely of concentrated energy, yet its members retain all the signs of sentience. In fact, not only are they clearly smarter than us (human beings, that is), but they also possess the remarkable ability to increase the mental capacity of anyone in close proximity to them. A discovery of this caliber will tend to disturb our understanding of both the universe and ourselves, but some of the ways in which we

This fast paced, intelligently written science fiction, romance, thriller with a touch of horror (I won’t give away spoilers but oh my, the things the author did to the hero!) did not disappoint. In general, I only give 4 or 5 star reviews because I don’t sacrifice the time to read beyond opening chapters if plot collapses or becomes predictable. I couldn’t flip the pages in Spectra fast enough.

A highly imaginative premise, intelligent beings composed of energy perhaps like a human soul, but go

On Star Trek, alien life almost always looked pretty much like us--bipedal, humanoid, and pretty generally human-shaped as well. There were occasional variations, like blue skin and antennae (remember the Andorians?) but the alien races were limited to the human actors.

One notable exception was the Next Gen episode "Home Soil", where the aliens discovered by the terraformers turn out to be silicon-crystal based. They are tiny beings, but they are physical.

Spectra by Joanne Elder opens with a mining expedition unearthing a strange collection of light based life forms. The crew present will be forever affected by what they discovered.

Most of the book, though, takes place a few years later. The crew have gone their separate ways. The death of one of those crew members, sparks an investigation that puts everyone else in danger.

Spectra reads like a conspiracy thriller wrapped up in a science fiction / speculative fiction setting. The first two thirds

this is a fantastic read. I was captivated all the way through. It would make a great movie. One of the best I've read.

Spectra is an action-packed science fiction thriller that tests the bounds of human morality and endurance.

A mining team on an exploration expedition finds the first intelligent life on a planet that is rich with materials for mining. Exposure to these entities gives the explorers unusual abilities. Unfortunately, they're killing the Entities just by being there. In this harrowing adventure, two people stand against those who would exploit the Entities for their own gain.

This is one of only a few books I've put down before finishing. Though I suspect that number will grow as I find myself with less time on my hands and a large to-read list, Spectra just couldn't capture me. The concept was really cool, sci-fi along the lines of what I love in the Ender series. The writing (at least in the beginning) is rather clunky and awkward, though. I eagerly await the sequel, Entity, due out this spring. I'm hoping the author will have gotten through some of her growing pai ...more
