When four strangers move into Blackpool Cove the same week a tragic shipwreck befalls its shores, Trixie Muldoon waves it off as coincidence. Even the arrival of the appealing, young investigator, David Durham, does not convince her otherwise.

But when a girl disappears, it's obvious something sinister has gripped the quiet, coastal town, and it all leads back to the town'...more

Tess Oliver is my favourite Author, so you can imagine my excitement when I got a copy of this. Blood Tide is a YA Vampire novel, set in the late 19th century. Admittedly I usually avoid Vampire novels like the plague but as this one is written by Tess I figured I'd make an exception. I made the right choice too - Blood Tide is (almost) as strong as the previous two I read (Bitterroot Crossing and Camille), and the main character is almost more likeable than Camille, which surprised me.

I am a sucker for a good mystery with a paranormal twist. "Blood Tide" definitely fits this bill and has the added bonus of being set in the late 1800's. Why is that an added bonus? Well, the books written about this period of time provide a little bit of history and are written centered around characters who have a moral character and innocence that you seldom find in characters today.

This was an amazing book! I loved it! When I started this book I really had no idea what I was getting my self into. And now that I'm done I have no regrets reading it.

Tess Oliver has created a book with great characters. One moment you think you know the character but then they do something and it changes your view on that chacater. The way that tess has created the characters is done in a way that I love. These characters are amazing.

Blood Tide is the story of a fictional coastal town that is being plagued by some dark and evil. The story is centered around a young girl, Trixie who finds herself in the center of all the drama. With Trixie, Oliver produces a strong and undeniably likable heroine. She’s a bit odd for her time, but readers are sure to delight in her no-nonsense attitude. She is one of those girls who do not wait to be rescued, she has no problem solving her own issues. She’s got strength for sure, but that does...more

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
** spoilers ** This is a vampire story set in the 1800s. The story begins with a shipwreck in a small coast town called Blackpool Cove. At or about the same time as that shipwreck, a boy of eighteen, his father, and their minions moved into town. The town welcomed the newcomers with open arms until a girl went missing. It was later found out that the girl was buried alive. Suspicions arose. It happened that Trixie's grandm...more

What can I say...she's done it again... Tess Oliver has wowed me! I can seriously say that she is in my top 5 favorite authors of all time! Such amazing work on all four of her novels AND at the end of Blood Tide there's a chapter for Camille #2!! I wrote her an email a long time ago practically BEGGING her to turn Camille into a series and I literally jumped up and down when I discovered that she did!!! It made my week!

Anyway, back to Blood Tide. In this 19th century period book, Trixie (short...more

Yes, this is another vampire romance! I did like Trixie as she is a very strong character and I liked her attitude. Trouble comes to the small fishing village with the nighttime shipwreck with all hands lost.

Then 4 strangers appear in town, Trixie feels that there is trouble but isn't sure what. She has the ability to determine a persons nature by seeing their, "colors". She is always hoping to meet the one man whose colors will mingle and compliment hers, when she meets Beck she thinks that is...more

I will start by saying this book was phenomenal. Tess Oliver takes us back to 1880 to the small coastal town of Blackpool Cove. Unlike most books I have read this author gives you just enough at certain points to make you want to keep reading. once I caught on to the fact that grandma was hiding something I was dying to know so I keep reading, only to find an even bigger secret. The amount of love that is shared among these characters is breath taking. The big reveal will leave you shocked, but...more

As Tess Oliver goes, this was one of my least favorites. I liked the characters and the writing was up to par, I just didn't dig the story. It's (another) vampire love story, but what bothered me about this one was no mention is made about the fact that Beck will never die. He's going to be 18 forever and they just act like that's not a big deal. Or maybe in this one, vampires can age because they can apparently have children. I was just a little confused about how it was all going to work out....more

I have a trend of rating Tess Oliver's books with 5/5 stars because they are just a pinch of everything that I love. Her formula is similar in all her stories but the plots and characters make each one unique and its own place holder on my favorite shelf.

Blood Tide is no different. Interesting heroine that has you can relate too and yet without the annoying quirks that most lead young woman seem to have that allows for the hero to come dashing in. This hero is scarred, which makes him beyond ap...more

Trixie, a young girl, living in a small village gets pulled into a tale of danger and lust. When four strangers come to the villiage after a ship wreck that has no survivors, trouble descends the villiage.
Two of the men are well presented, the perfect of gentlemen as such. The other two could not be more opposite. Shabby with that rough edge that would make people avoid them. Beck, one of the shabby men, however dangerous he seems, takes the interest of...more

This, along with ALL the reviews posted on my Goodreads account, was originally posted on my blog, The Violet Hour.

I was contacted by author Tess Oliver because she had seen my review of her book CAMILLE, and thought I would enjoy her 2011 offering, BLOOD TIDE. I was so excited! And she was totally right. I loved it! I love her style of writing. It helps me fall effortlessly into her stories. I pictured this entire book in my head as a movie (particularly like the end of Pride & Prejudice (2...more

This was a LibraryThing Member Giveaway. Maybe I should really avoid young adult-aimed books. But I think even when I was a young adult I would have hated this nonsense ... There is little textual indication of when or where this takes place, apart from ships that when wrecked leave bits of wooden hull here and there - the novella description says 1880, and then someone finally says something about living in the United States. The main female characters are given names which, had I been cursed w...more

When a ship wrecks on a sleepy coast, all passengers are found dead, and circumstances and events start taking a paranormal twist. Newcomers show up in the town and what they bring with them is nothing short of evil. Trixie has a "gift" of her own, she can see aura's, so with the help Beck and David, a shocking secret is about to be exposed.

I LOVED this read for so many reasons! I loved that it was set in the 1800's, loved the friendship between Trixie and Piper, that Trixie has a pet pelican w...more

3.5 stars - Worth the $2.99 I paid for it. I purchased this book without really reading the synopsis (Tess Oliver also wrote, "Camille" which I really enjoyed) and I liked learning the secrets along with the main character. It was pretty predictable, but a fun read. *I did find it odd that Trixie's (cringe) age and description were not mentioned in the beginning of the book.

Tess Oliver gave paranormal romance a new unexpected twist. The story and the characters were loveable. The only problem I found with the story is that there are no more boys like the main character, Beck in the world. So if you don't mind falling helplessly for a fictional character then this is a must read.

I was impressed with this book. It had strong characters and was written well. The ony thing I didn't like is that I would've liked to have had an epilogue to know how things turn out. It had a good ending, but left you wondering what would happen with them. Great characters. Great book. I would highly recommend.

A little historical paranormal romance? No thanks! Oh, Tess Oliver wrote it? OK then, don't mind if I do!

Once again I don't normally like period pieces of work, but I soon got past that. I soooo enjoyed this book and it closed up nicely, but left room for further books. I loved Beck and David. The way the story was told is very captivating. It is one to pick up and read.

I won this book from librarything member giveaway..

This was an intersecting book. It kept me wanting more. The suspense of what was going on drove nuts. I had to know. The what? Why? Who? And ohhhh!! Griped me and didn't let go.. Beautifully written and flows nicely. The characters are interesting and never lacked depth. Finley is by far my favorite character.. Lol.

Enjoyable Historical Paranormal YA romance.
I liked the heroine.
The foggy cove setting was nicely atmospheric.
Not deep reading but pleasant way to pass a few hours.

I haven't read a book that sticks to the world the author created in this time period done this well in a long time. I really couldn't get enough of the intruige in the book that had me guessing with each flip of the page.

I enjoyed this book for what it was, another quick read into the paranormal world. The book is very similar to other plot lines I've read. Non-popular girl falls for handsome, standoffish, unattainable boy. Boy apparently has secret and girl finds out, then they fight the villain and live happily ever after. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it was entertaining and definitely wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read.

It had my attention from the beginning. I couldn't put it down.

better than twilight.

This one was much better than the first Tess Oliver book I read. The protagonist was smart and funny and had a few tricks up her sleeve even if they were a little misplaced at times.
