The Dragon Who Loved Me (The Dragon Kin #5)
by
G.A. Aiken
I was raised for battle. And as the first daughter of a warrior family, I've earned my reputation the hard way. Yet now I fight alongside uncivilized male Northland dragons who think a female is only good for breeding and waiting back home in the cave. But it's the foolish and foolhardy who would try to stop me, Rhona the Fearless, from doing what I do best-destroying the...more

4.5 stars: one of the best in the series and one of my favorite new releases this year
I couldn't put this book down--great mix of action, humor, romance and suspense. I liked the main characters and how their relationship developed over the first half of the book. They didn't immediately jump into bed together. It was good seeing the characters from the earlier books--the way the author brought them back into this book was very well handled. (Except for Keita, who continues to get on my nerves....more

O ilk kitaptan beri hayranı olduğumuz, kardeşler arası çatışma...more

For any audiobook fans -this is now available on audio at Audible.com. I just downloaded it and I am sooooo excited to listen to it!
This book, The Dragon Who Loved Me, really surprised me. Rather than focusing on who I would've expected it to, like Eibhear and Izzy or Ren and a match, this book focuses on Vigholf and Rhona. Vigholf is Ragnar's brother and Rhona is one of the Dragon Kin cousins. The two are paired together to attempt a rescue mission. Apparently, in the midst of a five year war,...more

As bawdy, crass, and hilarious as anything I could have hoped for, THE DRAGON WHO LOVED ME is a chest thumping, mead-hall rocking, enemy slaying brawl of a good book. I had a hard time catching up with the politics and world, but that was my own fault for starting with book number five in the series. Once Rhona and Vigholf were off alone on their mission, however, I was able to just relax and enjoy the wit, the slap-stick, and the romance.

A lusty, testosterone-filled and laugh-out-loud funny romance guaranteed to make you fall in love. I'm a huge fan of G.A. Aiken's (aka Shelly Laurenston) dragons. This is the fifth book in what has been a fantastic series. Like with many other PNR series, the world building and cast of characters gets bigger with each book but G.A. doesn't let that detract from the main romance.

In order to read this book you first have to read the other books in the series.
This is another in the "Dragon" series by G.A. Aiken. This time, while the protagonist is a dragon named Rhona, a cousin of Fearghus, Briec, Gwenvael, et. al, the book spends more time on the rest of the family instead of focusing exclusively on Rhona and her would-be suitor, Vigholf.
The book is not great literature, but it's loads of fun to read. Unlike the earlier books it's not excessively porny and not completely...more

Fifth in the Dragon Kin hysterically funny paranormal romance fantasy series revolving around a family of shapeshifting dragons and their friends. The couple focus is on Vigholf, Ragnar's brother, and Rhoan, the Sergeant of the Cadwaladrs.
My Take
I love the sarcastic comments that Aiken throws in about the Northland dragons and how it only takes five years of battling alongside the Southland female dragons for the Lightnings to learn to hold their tongues. They still can't resist stepping in to "...more

I read this book first. Yes, the fifth book in the series. IN MY DEFENSE, I bought the ebook bundle and for some reason, this is the first book in said bundle (of books 3, 4, and 5 in the series), and there's no indication in the bundle that this is, you know, the one that should be read AFTER the others, and I was charmed enough by the prologue (three women--one an insane queen, one a girl squire, and one a hungover dragon--sneak off on a secret suicide mission and armed with a sense of humor?...more
I love Shelly Laurenston, even when she's being G.A. Aiken. Maybe especially when she's being Aiken since that is pen name she writes her Dragon Kin books under. As always, these books are full of quirky characters, lots of action, fun [and frequently snarky] dialog set in a complex world full of dragons, mages, humans and witches. And the gods, LOTS of gods, each with their own agendas. The living embodiment of the Chinese curse: 'May you live in interesting times...'

At the end of this book I felt very torn almost cheated out of some story lines. The H/hh, Vigholf the Abhorrent and Rhona the Fearless were actually a normal couple in a sense which was nice but in some sense I felt like they could have been more of a novella couple. Vigholf really came across as somene who cared about his mate and her happiness. He didn't try to push Rhona but at the same time he kindof had to because Rhona doesn't understand what the word subtle means, lol. Throughout the boo...more
Like the previous book, the romance in The Dragon Who Loved doesn't get to hog the spotlight. In this latest Dragon Kin story there's sort of a three pronged attack with the starring pair being the focus as they move between the other main threads with: the dragon brothers (Briec, Feargus, Gwenvael, and Eibhear), their Cadwaladr kin and the Northern Dragons in one battling group; Annwyl and Izzy sneaking off from Annwyl's army for a secret mission in another; and Dagmar, and Talaith minding the...more
First off, do not start the series with this book. You will be deeply confused. If you haven't read anything in this series yet, the first two in the series are much more in the style of romantic comedy featuring dragons, meddling gods, and other over the top characters. But, starting with book 3, they become much more epic fantasy in style, although still with strong romantic and comedic elements. And by epic fantasy, I mean multiple, huge storylines, an ever-expanding cast of characters, and a...more
The Dragon Kin series by G.A. Aiken (aka Shelley Laurenston) has quickly become one of my favorite series (among many others)! The stories have everything, humor, action and adventure, wars, romance (with that humor involved), family issues, emotional turmoil, and of course, DRAGON Shifters! I discovered this series by a recommendation from the Sizzling Shifters reading group on Shelfari, and after picking up and reading the first book, Dragon Actually, I have been trying to get my hands on all...more
The Dragon Who Loved Me is the fifth in this series. This book I felt was a little more serious than the others. Don't get me wrong there is some parts to laugh at just not as many as the other four books. All the other characters come back from the other books into this one, because of this huge war that is taking place that is why such serious writing I believe. But the two main characters Vigholf the Abhorrent is trying his best to make an impression on The First daughter of Bradana the Mutil...more

fantasy fans who don't mind romance
G.A. Aiken has created an entertaining romp set in a fictional fantasy world where dragons can shapeshift into human form, women fight hard and love hard and love blossoms where rivals meet head on.
It would be easy to dismiss her offerings as fantasy-light, a little bit of ye olde worlde fanstasy adventure to bulk out a fluffy romantic piece. You would be wrong. The key to my continued enjoyment of her work lies in the extensive shading in of the fantasy world and the characters therein. The plo...more

If we all liked the same thing...every author would be in the top 10. I have been stepping away from my normal buys and trying authors I haven't read before. Different strokes for different folks and saying that, I must honestly say that I was disappointed with this book. It had great premise, but it bounced around so much that I could hardly keep up with it. The story lines longest stay on one subject was 1 1/2 pages, the shortest was a paragraph. I've seen tennis matches that didn't bounce aro...more
Help!!! I am stuck in the Dragon Kin World and I can't get out!! Seriously, I am completely addicted and attached to the ongoing saga and all the characters, and so very entertained. I would have given this one a 3.5, but because I love the series I rounded up. This was not as strong as the first three, but still quite good and easily pulled me along the journey of the overall story. The main story of Vigholf and Rhona lacked the intensity of Annwyl and Feargus, or the playfulness of Talaith and...more

First of, I want to say that I love the 2 horses in this novel =))) they were hilarious.
Keita tugged the sleeve of his chain-mail shirt until he gazed down at her. “You don’t think I’m entitled, do you?”
“Of course not,” Vigholf lied.
“Because if I am, it’s only because I deserve it! I deserve everything I want. Don’t you agree?” Rather than lying even more, Vigholf handed Keita his pack.
“Anyone seen Keita?”
“Should we be looking for her?”
“No.”
“Then why are you asking?” Fearghus wanted to know.

This book is a slight departure from the rest of the books in this series. It follows Vigholf the Abhorrent and Rhona the Fearless. They have been fighting together for 5 years, Vigholf has secretly had a crush on Rhona the entire time. Rhona has been irritated by him for 5 years. They are both linked to the royal family but not part of it.

Good Stuff. This was really one of my faves. There was a lot going on. I think Rhona and Vigholf were one of my favorite couples. Neither was extreme in one direction or the other, they reminded of "average joes" ( as much as you can be average in Dragon PNR). I was also glad we got to see so much of the other characters and especially the little ones! It's tuff to watch Izz's and Eibhear's story go along so. It kind of reminds me of Blay and Quins tragic romance from BDB. I am really looking fo...more
The Dragon Who Loved Me is brilliant, it has so much in it that I could not put the book down. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. Every chapter was packed full of everything you expect from the Dragon Kin series, fun, laughter, romance, fighting, passion - the works.

Is it me or has the romance just gotten less and the battles with blood cry upped as each book progresses.....
Would say it was refreshing to see Vigholf and the way his character was portrayed, his whole positive approach was a constant and sometimes made you wonder just like Rhona can he get any more dumber, yet he was not dumb at all, he was simply a happy go lucky kinda dragon who happened to be in love with our soldier dragoness......and who simply had that amazing protective streak without...more

I am never unhappy with an Aiken story--I think I actually missed the one before this, but didn't have trouble enjoying this story. So much of the classic Aiken style to love--great dialogue, fierce women, the brave heroes (who occasionally need a whack upside the head), the sibling sparring, entertaining interference from the gods... I would imagine I'd appreciate the battles/political intrigues a tiny bit more if I was reading in order and with a better memory for the details, but not doing so...more
I'm not sure if I should give it 3 or 4 stars. This is the second book of the Dragon Kin I've read and I liked it, but... I skiped 2.-4. book, because I wanted same species couple. I like that you can take this book without reading the others - at least I didn't feel I've missed much.
