Who is the Holy Spirit, and exactly what does He do?

Many people find the Holy Spirit mysterious, confounding—even controversial. Why is the third person in the Godhead—the one Jesus said would be the believer’s ultimate source of truth and comfort—the source of such confusion?

In The God I Never Knew, Robert Morris clearly explains that the Holy Spirit’s chief desire is for

This is a review I've put off writing for a long time, but since I received the book as part of the Waterbrook Multnomah Blogging for Books program and obligated myself to provide a review, I'd better go ahead. The main reason I didn't want to review it is that I haven't finished the book. I couldn't. There are simply too many good books to waste time with bad ones. However, Idid give it a real effort, and would like to share the reasons why I didn't find the book worthy of continuing.

First, thou

Thank you Robert Morris for writing this book and clearing up a lot of common misconceptions about the Holy Spirit. Robert addresses the topic head on that so many pastors are reluctant to talk about. I've spent my whole life in church but don't recall a pastor ever going into depth about the Holy Spirit, The Holy Spirit's reason for being, the Holy Spirit's role in the trinity and all the promises and benefits that are available
Robert Morris presents one of the most Biblically sound studies on the subject of the Holy Spirit I've seen in a long time. He aptly points out quite correctly that the Holy Spirit is not an "It", but a "He" as part of the Holy Trinity...Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not just some "weird" thing we sound skirt around and avoid.

Too many "full gospel" teachings in many churches today are based on having "mountain top" experiences only. Robert lays it out exactly like the Scripture

If you are a Christian, you need to read this book!!!

This book is an excellent source for any and all Christians who want to know the third person in the Trinity, The Holy Spirit, better. For any who want to walk more fully in the the anointing of God through Jesus and most specifically through the Holy Spirit. He is often misunderstood and greatly understated, and in this book we are introduced to Him in a format that is easily digested, with even some points of humor but always deep insight a
Did you know there are three baptisms? I had not seen this realization before and I a thankful for Robert to point this out. Due this new information, Are you living in the power of the Holy Spirit or in the strength of the flesh? We all know how it goes when we try walking in the Life for Christ by our own strength, frustration and exhaustion occur. Robert gives clear scriptures to back up his findings and applies stories of his own to go along with them. I enjoyed the book and learned new insi ...more
I recieved this book free through GoodReads First Reads and I'm so glad I did. I'm an over analyzer and I get frustrated easily when it comes to religeon etc et al. Robert Morris helped simplify, in wonderful detail, who the Holy Spirit is and explains how the Holy Spirit works in our lives. This is a book I most likely refer back to often in my life.

I absolutely loved this book. Robert Morris spoke to the reader as if the conversation regarding The Holy Spirit was sitting on the back porch pouring out experiences backed by scripture. I would recommend this to any Christian desiring to experience the fullness of God.
Robert Morris put the Holy Spirit into simple terms that any Christian can understand. (I do not recommend this book to non-Christians, simply because the book requires a base knowledge of the Christian faith and the Holy Spirit.) However, Christians who are familiar with the concept of the Holy Spirit will benefit from this book. While I found I knew most of the information already, something about Morris' simple illustrations helped me to better understand that knowledge and how to apply that ...more

This book was an unexpectedly well written, systematically tackled defense of the role of the Holy Spirit in a Christian's life. Many Christians don't fully grasp the help that is available in His abiding presence.
If you have ever wondered about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or words of wisdom, knowledge, working of miracles...this book will help you better understand. If you've been taught that all supernatural manifestations were over with in the first century, this book will show you why th

I have to admit, I don't really like non-fiction books and have a really hard time finishing them. This was one of the best non fiction books I have read and I could not put it down. It has really helped me develop my relationship with the Holy Spirit. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed The God I never Knew by Robert Morris - this is a great way to learn more about the Holy spirit and how he can be our friend and help us to reflect Christ in our daily lives. This book explains the gifts of the spirit and how the Holy Spirit can indwell and enrich our spirits. I am familiar with the works of the Spirit but I still had things to learn and this book was helpful to me and I think you will find it helpful to you to. no matter if you are a new Christian or have been ...more
This book was an OK read. It wasn't exactly what I expected and was a bit redundant for my taste. The author seemed to repeat the same information over and over from one chapter to the next. Although I understand the need for repetition (at times) to emphasize a point, there was too much.

I also didn't much care for the author's own personal examples of how he spiritually ministered to individuals, knew what they were thinking, etc. I'm not disputing it, it just seemed to elevate him more than an
Excellent book about God, the Holy Spirit. A must read for anyone wanting to grow spiritually.

This book teaches you about the Holy Spirit. Teaches us that it is inside of us, helps and guides us, comforts and never leaves us. Teaches us to find friendship with God. An excellent book for all christian and non christian, to read and study, even if you don't go along with all that the author believes and writes. He does cover thoroughly the Holy Spirit and how it changes your life. Recommend this teaching book.
A practical account of what can sometimes be an emotionally charged, opinionated topic. I appreciate Robert Morris' approach and am inspired by the words I read in this book.
Much better than I expected and also not quite what I expected. Really challenged me in my intentionality with my relationship with God and definitely given me a clearer picture of who God is and desires to be in my life and the lives of those around me. I would highly recommend this book for any believer or anyone questioning whether or not they want to pursue a relationship with God.
A wonderful book that inspired me to really get to know and communicate with the 'person' of the Holy Spirit. Morris allows himself to be vulnerable in order to unravel how the Holy Spirit work and move in our lives.
God continues to challenge me to get to know the Holy Spirit. I didn't go looking for this book. It came to me. God is speaking to my heart as I continue to pursue Him.
I loved this book, I just recently loaned it to someone who had question I felt this book would answer.
I found it a little confusing and too detailed in many spots... And, his premise is unsteady for me.

An intimate study of the Holy Spirit. Read in our Ladies small group.
I did not like this book. I found it to be confusing and contradictory.
What an amazing book! Once I picked it up I could hardly put it down.
Awesome book. Re read the book of Acts with an open mind.
Very good-biblical, easy to understand
