So far I like this. Have been reading little by little and it actually has helped with the stressful things that can happen during the day.
My review is me writing key points that I want to remember later on when I come back to this.
Ch 1: "Happiness is something you decide ahead of time." "Abraham Lincoln once said, " most people are as happy as they have DECIDED to be".
statistics : There are more heart attacks on Monday's than any other day of the week because people have decided Monday is...more

"Every day is a gift from God." - Pastor Joel Osteen
Reading this book is a gift from God as well. I have to say that it's a very good tool if you want to change your life for the better.
To give you a teaser, I'll share some well-remembered quotations from the book.
There are 26 chapters thus I'll be giving you 26 sentences / 1 quote per chapter.
1. "You are closest to your victory when it is the darkest."
2. "Be a part of the solution, not the problem."
3. "You receive back what you project."
4. "You...more

I have mixed feelings about Joel Osteen. He is criticized for preaching a “prosperity gospel” and occasionally his messages do come across that way. Other times I think he’s biblically sound and offers great points. He’s also had critics who say he smiles too much which is actually amusing to me. (I mentioned this in my review of his book with the same title).

If you had to choose your favorite day of the week, what would it be? Mine would be Friday.
Every Day a Friday by Joel Osteen offers twenty-seven chapters divided into seven sections, all built on key points for holding on to your happiness and joy every day of the week. If any of you have ever listened to Joel Osteen speak, he is all about optimist and looking at the bright side of things. Every Day a Friday is a written version of that attitude and has a lot of good advice for turning every day...more

Talk about staying on message...Osteen has gained maybe 10 million plus followers but also enough bad ink to fill Galveston Bay since taking command of Lakewood (Mega) Church from his oft-mentioned father. This wild success combined with his faith-based view of the world which allows him to dismiss the critics keeps him seemingly permanently on-point. This latest book does not provide an iota of exception. If you have read any of his four previous collections of his "sermons" (or motivational pe...more
I have often seen Joel Osteen on tv while I was flipping channels but never really watched a sermon or listened to him speak. So in reading his book "Every Day A Friday" I wondered just what ideas he might share and what his teaching style might be. Well in this book his idea is that happiness is a choice is spot on. Statistics say that most people are happier on Friday because they are looking forward to the weekend, and in this book Mr. Osteen reminds us that we should look at every day as a g...more
I've watched Joel Osteen every now and again, so picked up this book from the "New" shelves at the library.
Never heard of Joel Osteen? He preaches to a huge congregation in Houston and millions worldwide. He was even one of Barbara Walters' 10 most fascinating people about five years ago. Anyway, Osteen's message is God loves us and wants us to be happy and prosper. This book, like all of Joel's others is always a great pick-me-upper.
Like his other books, Joel shares personal experiences and practical advise. Much of the information we have heard before, but reviewing it over and over helps us to make positive changes for ourselves.
I personally need to tone down some of the Godliness because it is sometimes too much for me. However, after searching for my spiritual guide, the closest thing I've found that I can relate to is Joel Osteen.

Joel Osteen is a happy guy who’s actually been criticized for smiling too much. In “Every Day a Friday”, he shares what’s behind that smile and why he is so positive. One of the first things he tells readers is that we choose whether or not to be happy. Feelings are not something done to us, rather it's something we choose to experience.
He understands we don’t have control over everything that happens to us, however, he points out that we always have control over our reactions and how we respon...more

“Every Day a Friday” by Joel Osteen gives advice on how to choose to be happy every day and not let circumstances steal your joy. It is an inspirational book that I think anyone could benefit by reading. There are a lot of good ideas in this book involving our relationship to others. One of the topics that spoke to me most was to “Make sure you see people through eyes of love, not eyes of judgment.” (P. 190) His illustration about the rude checkout clerk really stood out to me. I am sooooo not into this type of book. BUT my best friend wants me to read it so I said I would give it a try. So far, not bad! I do like his advice and he isnt shoving religion at me. I will keep on, and also try to do some of the things he says. Its basically about how to be happier with what you have.
OK finished the book. I thought it was pretty good. Good advice and not a ton of religion, for those who arent religious. I dont like reading a self help book where they reference back to bible...more

I'd like to preface this by saying that I like Joel Osteen. He's happy, he's upbeat, he's friendly, and he seems genuinely... Well, genuine! I'm not a hater by any stretch of the imagination. I am a born again, Bible believing, Baptist. I am a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ and wanted to have a front-seat opinion of this fellow for myself. Having never seen him on television, his books are the best way for me to get to know what he believes, what he teaches, and what he emphasizes.

I have been struggling with depression for a few years and have found that his books help me have a more positive outlook on life. They are written for those who share a religious faith in God and Jesus Christ.
There are scriptures throughout the book.
My one complaint about the book is the redundancy of stories and lessons from his other books. There are several stories that have been repeated. If you haven't read his other books it doesn't matter. Or if you are like me and probably need to keep...more

I think you can summarize Joel Osteen’s message with: reach higher, stay uplifted, and share your inspiration with others. He infuses the teachings with various stories, some quite trite, and some that brought a tear to my eye. But, he doesn’t really offer any serious insights into anything, just peddling a very basic message.
Some other takeaways:

Once you begin Joel Osteen's Every Day a Friday, your outlook on life changes.
I received this book for review from the publisher, read a few pages, then immediately got my journal to scribble down some notes and lines.
You see the difference in one letter: I've got to vs. I get to. Think about it: "I've got to clean house, ugh" vs. "I get to clean house, I have a home to clean." Brought this up in Sunday School last Sunday when we were talking about attitudes.

In Every Day A Friday, Joel Osteen has seen that most people become happy and joyful on Fridays. But throughout the week we are counting down the days to happiness on Friday. The book is based off a study that has found that happiness increased 10 percent more on Fridays. We tend to be waiting to be happy for the weekend and we are missing out on the rest of the days of the week. We are supposed to enjoy our lives every single day. A significant key we must realize is we don’t have to give away...more

Every day can't be a Friday, but we can change our attitude and appreciate every day as if it were a Friday! That is the powerful message that Joel Osteen shares in happy fun way, loaded with personal stories that will give you a laugh and make your heart lighter--all while putting a smile on your face. I've been enjoying this audio book in my vehicle while driving around making preparations for guests this Thanksgiving season, which is right on target because this book will make you feel thankf...more
I have dealt with depression all of my life. In the past I thought that God and the Bible were not giving me enough answers. I thought that there had to be more answers out there. I turned to another religion (I won't mention its name, just look at some of my book reviews from 2009 to find out), but all along, God was knocking at the door to my heart. Joel Osteen was an answered prayer for me.

I've read three of Joel Osteen's novels and they are all amazing. His books makes me want to read it all over again.(not that it's boring, its really interesting) His messages are so powerful that most of what he says, already convinces me. I really like his style and how he always uses scriptures in the bible to help prove his point. There is so much to say and all of his chapters, says it all. I cannot find a better book by any other author that is so creative and very rich in detail. Most of...more

It is evident when you read the book that Joel's seven part 'happiness' recipe has been 'kitchen tested'! Joel's personal lifestyle and Ministry is based on his scriptural insights and experiences that have worked for him and made his world wide Ministry one of the fastest growing in the World. From his smiling face on the front cover, to his sometimes 'corny' jokes and stories, readers are able to sense the sincerity of his personal message that is premised o...more

I was reluctant to read this at first, because, we'll, just being totally honest the smile does kind of put me off. I believe, however, taken in the context that Olsteen writes, this is a motivational and uplifting book. To my knowledge, Olsteen never claims that he is presenting the entire picture on how to be the best Christian ever, he simply continues to pound out his niche of positive thinking. I know I certainly have room for more of that in my life! I read a little of the book every morni...more
You might say, "Do you really need to read a book for this?" And I would say, "Absolutely!" I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a great reminder of how to think positive and remember how blessed you really are. I am true believer that mindset is everything and Joel Osteen does a fantastic job of depicting different real-life scenarios where, if we adjust our mindset, we can be successful, positive, overcomers...whatever it is you desire!! AWESOME BOOK! I've never been partularly religous, probably since growing up Catholic & having to attend Catholic school from 3rd to 8th grade & being subjected to (at that time) the very strict nuns and being taught the "fear" of God. And I never thought I would like something like this thinking this is just one of those mega rich ministers.

I enjoyed this book. Some of it was repetitive of things that I've heard Joel Osteen say before. I am still glad that I read it. It is a uplifting book, filled with Osteen's jokes and stories of people that overcame some obstacle by God's grace, mixed in with a bit of scriptures and reflections on his childhood and father. Fans of Osteen will recognize several of the stories featured in the book. I do think Osteen should update his material, but overall Everyday A Friday was a worthwhile read.
Every Day a Friday: How to Be Happier 7 Days a Week by Joel Osteen is full of insightful wisdom in making your life a more positive place. Some of the advice is not new or fresh, but it is a helpful reminder. I enjoy his story telling (parables almost) to make his point. Yes, some of the stories may be cliched or corny, but sometimes life is corny. Whenever I read one of Joel's books, I feel revived and motivated to be a kinder and better person. And isn't that what God wants for us? Thank you,...more
Rosalie got this for me kind of or mostly as a joke. But I read it and really enjoyed it. It's all about how to be more content in an often-sh*tty world. At first it seemed kind of corny to me. But as I kept reading it and thinking about it, it made me feel good, I began to like it. I want to read it again, because its benefits were greatest while I was actually reading it; you forget this stuff quickly when you're not actually reading it.
When I first picked this up, I thought the commitment was that I would BE happier IN seven days...oops. It was tips for being ABLE TO BE happy seven days a week. If you've read much Joel, you know that many of his books are very much alike, but I personally find his stuff comforting, approachable, and nice few pages of easy (and sometimes inspirational) reading before going to bed at night....which is something I've been needing.
