There’s a rumble in the jungle… A lovely book for EYFS children (and in my case in SEB children with ASD). The rhythm and rhyme of the book engages the children and helps build anticipation for the next page and the next animal. The first page of the book sets the scene with the animals waking up. This is nicely supported by the illustrations of David Wojtowycz where the children can spot the animals in a shared reading situation. The book flows nicely from page to page focusing on each animal w...more

My children had a strange reaction to the book. They really liked it, but in the following ways:
-- They liked the introduction page because they got to investigate and identify the animals (jaguar, gorilla, tiger, et al).
-- On the opening page, you see a view of the jungle from the outside, but all we see of the animals is a small portion of each (the tail of a tiger, the nose of a crocodile, the antlers of the gazelle, etc.). The rest is hidden behind the trees, in the leaves, etc.

I absolutely love this book!!! The colourful illustrations, rhyme and rhythm used create a very engaging and funny story to read to children. I have often used this story during the theme regarding wild animals. I have often found that the children like to guess what animals are going to come next! I like the fact this story is a larger book which is very beneficial when there is no visualizer within the classroom. It allows all children to see the story without restricted view on the carpet. Summary:
This book goes through the various animals that you might find in a jungle. It tells a little about each animal and what they are doing. The art is very well done and keeps young readers attention.
Response:
The meaning for this book is to give readers an understanding of the animals. It takes them on a "safari" through the jungle and a short description of each animal.
I like that the book starts off in the morning when the animals are awakening and it ends in the evening when the animals...more

I am currently using this book with my Year 1 class. We are looking at Poetry Unit 3 'Poems on a theme' and are exploring features such as rhyme, alliteration and the use of adjectives. This book is a brilliant tool as it is full of fun and exciting animal poems. The children are loving learning about all the different animals and are having lots of fun spotting alliteration and rhyme within the poems. I would recommend this book to any teachers working on this unit.

‘There’s a rumble in the jungle there’s a whisper in the trees, the animals are waking up and rustling the leaves.’
This rhyming book is excellent for pupils in early years, particularly during phase 1 of phonics as it can be used to teach them about rhyme and rhythm. It describes a morning in a jungle, going through many animals and what they are doing. It has bright, colourful illustrations and it enjoyable to read at any age. This is one of my favourite books. I found it very useful and fun to read to the children. I was able to ask questions such as 'which was your favourite animal and why?' or 'what animal that was not in the book would you choose to have in the jungle?' etc so it bought up some good discussions. The book overall is bold and colourful which engages the children as well as the poems which rhyme that also makes the children laugh. It introduces a wide range of animals in the jungle and some that chil...more
Preschoolers will love learning about the different animals of the jungle in this brightly colored adventure. Rhyming and learning is fun. Little readers will laugh along at the chimpanzees swinging through the trees and chuckle at the zebra whose handsome and cool stripes that his lady friend likes. They will laugh out loud as the giraffe gets kissed by the clouds.
Introduce your preschoolers to rhyme, colors and animals all at the same time. This book is sturdy and will be easy for little finge...more

This story introduces a chimpanzee, lion, elephant, zebra, snake, giraffe, hippopotamus, crocodile, rhinoceros, gazelle, gorilla, leopard and tiger. It gives brief description of what the animal looks like and is like with a sense of humour. Children enjoyed the different animals and when read the information and not the animal children enjoyed guessing what it might be. Good illustrations, suitable for independent reading as well as being read out aloud. Suitable from age 3 and onwards.

This book is fantastic for language development. There are words like, growl, tremble, prowling, and ferocious. There are also made up words like, elephing, and flappy. The illustration are an invitation to not so obvious things. There are tiny ants in each illustration which is fun for them to find as you turn the page.

This book uses really great poetry and let's kids learn about the different animals. It also slips in really interesting facts about each animal for the kids. I think it could even be used as a guessing book for kids where the teacher describes the animal and the kids guess what animal it is.
This is such a great book with amazing illustrations! Each page has it's own animal and a poem about that animal. This is a great read aloud for children, that gives them information about the animals in the story as well as great pictures to look at!
This is such a colorful book and covers all types of animals in the jungle. It would be a good resource for teaching poetry in first or second grade. It also could be used to show similarities and differences between various animals in the jungle.
This is a wonderful book. The poems in the book are so much fun to read. Different animals have their own little rhyme and I think that children will love this book. The illustrations are so bright and colorful too.

Brilliant, cartoony art introduces kids to a variety of jungle animals and the prose has a rhythm that reflects the "Rumble" of the jungle.
