I would like to think this novel had potential but it just fell flat. The plot, on a very basic level, could have been good - Who is Zoran? Can he be trusted? Can Daniel? However, it is so slow and drawn out that by the time anything happens I could not have cared less.

The characters had no personality at all and that made it hard to feel anything for them when Grace left them for Ezra. All that apparently matters is how good-looking they all are, *sigh*. I could partly forgive this short-comin...more

I’d be looking forward to reading this book since I first heard about it on Goodreads. So you can imagine my excitement when I managed to get it for review. Well, let's just say this was a disappointment.
When I read the title and saw the cover, I thought the content would delve deep into fallen angels and stuff. I got really excited, 'cause I love the paranormal. The introduction was...what's that word? Oh yes. Long-winded. I was reading and reading and reading, and I was thinking, "When are the fallen angels coming out to play?"

I have just finished this book, and what can I say?
It was not what I expected. Initially, it took me a couple of chapters to get in to the swing of things. But once I got over that slight hurdle, it was a wonderfully written book. Full of little twists that keep your interest peaked.
I love the way Eden Maguire writes. I loved the Beautiful Dead series, and am nearly as captivated by the first of this trilogy.

Dark Angel is one of those books that is both thrilling and different. I was really up for this book as I adored Eden's previous series, Beautiful Dead. But this was better, by miles. The book spins a new twist on paranormal romance that hasn't been done yet and keeps you on the edge for the whole novel, just waiting to find out what will happen.

I don't really know what to say about this book. It certainly had me interested and on the back there is a review by Chicklish saying; Eden Maguire has mastered the art of twists and turns... I wouldn't quite say 'mastured', my term would be more like 'knows to create an interesting plot with some unexpected events', although the one thing I did find quite annoying was that Eden gave hints in too much detail for what would probably happen later in the book.

There is also something else that caught my attention; the main character is called Tania, or is Tanya? I don't know because Eden used both spellings, this could be just a stupid mistake (you should know how to spell your characters name *tut*) or it could've been punctuated like that on purpose because of how the other characters would've said her name. I really don't know.
Although I have been moaning about this quite a bit, there is some good points, some! First of all, I love Orlando, but at the beginning I didn't like him as I thought he was cheating on Tania/Tanya but because of his concern later on in the novel, he totally redeemed himself. I LOVED Daniel, but I have to say that I was getting a bit bored of the novel so I wanted to see when Daniel would come in BUT (view spoiler). Although after that I wasn't so keen, but I have a feeling he might rise in someone else's body when Tania/Tanya goes to Europe but she doesn't know...?
They were the good points and I have now thought of some other things that I disliked in Dark Angel. Despite what happened to Daniel, I think it would've been better if he was in book two aswell, because instead of (view spoiler) it would've been better to keep some of them so it made it more interesting for book two.
Also, I wasn't keen on Eden Maguire's style of writing as I don't think that she's experienced enough (oh gosh, I sound so mean!!), but when you compare Eden Maguire to someone like Rachel Vincent, you can tell that Vincent is someone that is more experienced, she has studied literature and read ALOT. Whereas Maguire has read a few books and created her story ideas to words. (Sorry that sounded so mean, I hate dissing authors). Although I do have to admit that I did stay up til early hours to finish this book even though I knew I had to be up early in the morning, BUT another disadvantage; usually there is alot of tension at the end of novels for a cliffhanger to the next one in the series, but this one was like 'ahh cool, that's happening is it?!' it wasn't like 'OMG, DON'T DO THAT, YOU IDIOT!!!!' So I have to argue that the description wasn't very clear, and OH YEAH! You guessed it, another disadvantage!! (can you see the theme? Hahaa!) Oh damn, I forgot, oh yeah. Ermm, there wasn't enough description for you to understand what was happening sometimes; for example one minute you're in the chapel, next a helipad.
Enough of my ranting, it was a good book and I liked the idea of Tania/Tanya being linked with Aimee.
This book however did get a possible four stars because of the fact that even though I was getting tired of the story, I wanted to read on, to know what happen next. But 3.5 stars because of the lack of description. (less)

This book was plain weird! My sister gave it to me to read and it took forever to get into. The style of writing was confusing and half the time the chapters were way too long and you had to struggle to keep up with what was happening.
Finally made it to chapter 12 and still had no little clue of what the plot was. When it was finally all revealed, it all happened so fast you were left wondering 'what the hell just happened?'.

I tried...i honestly did .. i bought the second book in advance.....excited to read the blurb ..so you can imagine my confusion when the story didnt flow ... and it became a chore just to read ...i had to give it away to someone who would read it..
Evil angel ...parties....clever girl...good looking guys ... it had the chance to become a good series ..i have lost faith in the series ... the reason why its got 2 stars is because i liked the idea of the book but not the writing

I felt no connection with this book whatsoever. I didnt get to know the characters well enough and I didnt know what were Orlandos and Tanias past experiences together. I had no idea what type of people they were or what connections they had. I hated all the characters.

There was NO plot, NO characters and NO story. The couples were weak or they won't have been so easily separated and brainwashed. Well, you could say they became stronger because of what happened, but what did they do to really strengthen their love? Except make-out at the wrong moments, and use cliché lines to declare their non-exsistent love for each other. Your friend was about to get brainwashed and sucked into an evil cult and all you could do was hug and cry?

In the end Tania tells the 'truth' to Orlando. The reactions during that conversation was unrealistic. If you told your boyfriend you were a medium with a connection to the spiritual world he would either take you directly to the mental hospital or run away, thinking you're crazy. It could have happened, I could have believed it was possible, but the way the author wrote it made it impossible to believe.

So how does Daniel finally stop his ~~evilness~~ plan to seduce Tania? Yup, that's it, that's how he dies, a stampede of horses gets rid of him. Obviously it ONLY kills him and not Tania, the main character, who was right beside him!!! Oh, and how does Tania defeat Zoran, the really evil one, the love thief? Ta da!!! She figures out his name, which is Malach, angel of death. "Brutal sprit of the underworld, creator of war, destroyer of infants." Now isn't that scary ~~*tons of sarcasm*~~. How does simply knowing the name of the so called 'dark angel' make him vanish, I do not know. I learned having knowledge of 'names' beats bad guys!!! NOT bravery, not goodness in the heart and not using the brain.

I was originally going to give this book one star, which I reserved for terrible books that burns your eyes and kills your brain cells, but I added an extra star. AT LAST in the very, very end she FINALLY used her head and realized they were all bad guys and strangers she barely knew. At least Tania wasn't as dumb as her friends, but she was close. A creepy guy a.k.a. Daniel just sneaks into your room and starts touching you all over and you let him? I would have beat the living daylight out of him! She was very close to giving in, but at least she didn't!!! Though I won't forgive her for getting that far and almost abandoning all she had for someone she barely knew. On the beginning of chapter 14 she finally realizes her stupidity and actually voices my insults that I've been using the entire book towards her. She was blind, but at least she stopped. That I value and that's why this book deserved an extra star.

Oh, and what was the point of her guardian angel? Whispering encouragement, which seemed a lot like words from a fairy godmother in a princess story. I didn't quite understand her, but l liked her best. I don't know why, but Maia was the one who made most sense and didn't use 'totally' in any of her sentences. She was the real person who saved the day, who glued Tania's eyelids open and made her use her brain. 397 pages worth of useless characters, conversations and plot. In my opinion this is certainly not as good as her other series, the beautiful dead series, as it seemed to be a lot more indepth but not in a im going to captivate you and keep you within the grasp of my pages sort of way. I do think that perhaps her over series built up this whole aspect of image for eden maguire, in that you knew she had talent and that she was the sort of author that wrote with care when it came to her books. But after reading this one your kind of left wondering what the point of the whole thing even was.

It was obvious from the moment of the party, or well even before that, that something big dark and bad was about to go down. A celebrity, even if they are a retired one, is not going to throw a big huge party just because they feel like doing so. They are actually more likely to throw a come back concert in the hopes of raising some more money or even to just get back in the spotlight of everything again. so yeah there was a very unbelieavble factor within those pages that seemed to make you figure out the plot right from te beginning. The annoying thing for me was that all these ideas were thrown about but no conclusion was actually come of them, such as why oliver died, or why they lost there memories of what actually occured, or even why the dark ones felt the need to fall in love or make others fall in love with them? It was just like a book where nothing but ideas were thrown about and that was all.

It was a disappointing novel therefore and I am struggling to find the overall advantages to it, or well the positives in this case. I do think that perhaps the series could get better as it goes on but its going to take a mind of stubborness to carry on reading the remainder of the series. good job then that thats me all ove really. I like eden maguire and so I am a little disppaointed by the series. I also know that others will have liked it but we are all entitled to our own views and opinion on this one so I hope mine are respected. I do think that the characters have a lot of room for growth and development and so I therefore hope that by the end of the series we begin to understand and relate to them more.

Therefore because of everything mentioned within this review I am going to award it a one star rating. its very rare that Ill do such a thing but I am finding it hard to even say that I liked the novel when all I can think is what pile of poop did I actually just sit and read and why did I waste my time on it? I will continued to read the series and I hope to good that I will begin to enjoy it more as it goes on but for me, this book was a big no no and does not raise the hopes or spirits of a good series to come.(less)

This was a case of cover lust and I just had to have it but the story just didn't live up to the cover which was such a shame.

You don't find out until nearer the end what is actually up with Zoran so leading up to this just led to more confusing not knowing where it was going.

I didn't really like the lead female character Tania she seemed very clingy for most of the book until nearer then when she actually got some fire in her belly and actually act out. I didn't really see any good qualities to her apart from with Grace and Jude. She let everyone just walk all over her. I didn't get her parents they was always leaving her in the house alone when she is only a teenager and it's a place where a lot of wildfires happen it just didn't make sense. Even when her Mum had a bad feeling about leaving her still left her I just didn't really see any point of them in this story.

Orlando bugged me for most of this book and like everything else he picked up you guessed it near the end! There's not much to say about him other than he was annoying and quite a lot of the time a jerk I just didn't get the attraction between Tania and Orlando.

Daniel I actually liked until the end he seemed sweet and kind and that he cared about Tania so I won't say any more on him as I will end up giving it away and I'm not going to do that to you.

At one point I thought I bought a arc copy of this book as there seemed to be a lot of mistakes for a final copy. One for example all the way through the book they spelt her name Tania but at one point it went to Tanya but then back again in the next sentence.

There was parts where I thought I was going to really fall in love with the book as sometimes things was happening and I was on the edge of my seat there was a few of these highs but just not enough.

I thought that the ending was quite good as it seemed to wrap everything up and tied with a bow so I didn't think there would be another book but from Goodreads I have seen that there is at least two more books but I just don't know where it will go from there and I don't think I will be continuing with this series.

Overall I thought there was a lot of potential for this to be a great book but in the end it just never lived up to the potential.(less)

Eden created her in such a way that you immediately felt like you could relate to her, become her and then put yourself in her shoes. I will tell you now, if you’re looking for a book that has a strong angel storyline, this isn’t the book for you. While angel imagery and the “dark” side come through loud and clear; the actual appearance of angels is sort of lacking.

I had a few issues with the plot of this book. While it had an extremely interesting concept, it just...more I’m a fan of the Angel genre. I will tell you now, if you’re looking for a book that has a strong angel storyline, this isn’t the book for you. While angel imagery and the “dark” side come through loud and clear; the actual appearance of angels is sort of lacking.

I had a few issues with the plot of this book. While it had an extremely interesting concept, it just didn’t seem to go far enough for me. A retired, mysterious rock star (Zoran) moves into a mountain district and attract the attention of the entire teen population to the point where the main character (Tania) considers he is a cult leader, drawing all her friends to the dark side. It is obvious from the start that there is going to be a supernatural element to the story too; so you start asking yourself if this is actually a supernatural cult or is there more Tania must try to uncover?

Sounds really dark and uncertain; But Tania takes almost the entire book to grab onto this need to find out the real meaning behind Zoran’s appearance in her town. Despite having concerns and voicing them every second page; she spends too much time pushing them aside and ignoring her instincts – to avoid Zoran – to run away. While part of this avoiding issue gets explained throughout the end of the book, it made Tania come off as weak; to have all these thoughts and want to do something about them, but to do nothing (eg. She’s aware for most of the novel that something is not quite right with Zoran and his residence, and yet knowing she has to stay away, knowing her parents and boyfriend are telling her it’d be better to not go near Zoran, Tania decides on multiple occasions to visit his home alone.

I was drawn in by the mysterious Zoran. You don’t quite know who or what he is for so long and you wait impatiently for Tania to stumble across the answer. While I’m not desperate for the next book, I will be looking out for It to see what happens with Zoran; the ending left me wondering.

When I first received this from the publisher and recognized the authors name I instantly was hesitant. I mean I own all four Beautiful Dead books yet I could only make myself suffer through the first two...and really I shouldn't have even done that.

But this? Oh yes I will be reading the sequel. Job well done to Eden Maguire!!

Tania is basically your normal teenage girl. And these teenagers are actually teenagers. They go to parties, the drink sometimes, they worry about things like college and what should I wear tonight?. They are young, reckless, and real. Which I loved. Tania has grown up in a town that is plagues by wild fires her whole life. Living there kinda makes everyone an expert on forest fires. Where as we talk about the rain, they talk about things like smoke off the mountain. But the neighborhood she lives in was once burned down to the ground, killing the family that lived in the lot her house now sits on. So when Tania spends her life having nightmares/visions or fire everyone just says it is because she is "over sensitive". In fact that is what she has been hearing through-out her life about just about anything. Every Time she gets upset over something they all say she is just being sensitive. But then a retired rock stars comes to town and everything changes. Now sensitive takes on a whole new meaning. What was once considered a weakness is now her greatest strength and her only hope at defeating the darkness that is devouring her friends.

While I do have to admit Tania's mood had me questioning rather or not she was actually bi-polar at times I still really loved her. I mean you get an inside look into her thoughts and her quirky self banter made me laugh on more than one occasion. This is a slightly different twist on the whole angel scene that has been sweeping through YA lately. Her the fallen angels aren't the guys you should be falling in love with. They are in deed the bad guys. I did like Maguire's take on the whole "a devil who has a name is powerless" theme. It made the book really interesting and hard to put down.

The only reason why this didn't get 5 stars from me was because, while it started off great, it kinda fizzled by the end. I mean the action was there but it just needed a little Umph. All in all I can't wait for the next book and see if love can conquer all or if Tania will fall into the darkness.(less)

I loved the mystery which surrounded Zoran and co. At no point did I guess their secret or even have an inkling about the direction in which the story was going to go. Some of the events throughout took me completely by surprise and kept me on my toes and I enjoyed seeing the plot twists and turns unravel up to the point of a completely epic conclusion to the story. This was definitely not another formulaic paranormal romance.

Eden Maguire has a really fast-paced and engaging writing style which kept me immersed from the word go. Some parts of the book had me on the edge of my seat and I was totally gripped by Tania's story which really has something for everyone. There's a swoonworthy romance, a battle between good and evil, magic and mystery and a fantastic heroine who must make some major decisions to save not only herself but the lives of her friends and family.

I would just say that there are some adult themes in this book, so I think it's more suited to slightly older teen readers. I thought that overall 'Dark Angel' was a fantastic read. I curled up in my favourite chair to start this one evening and found myself finishing it in one sitting because it was that good!

The second book in the series, 'Twisted Heart' is due out on 3rd November and I'm looking forward to revisiting Tania once more and seeing what will happen to her next.

I have been anxiously awaiting the publication of this book since it came onto my radar some months ago. I adored Eden Maguire's Beautiful Dead series and when I found out that this book had a Rock Star as a central character, you should have heard me squee.

Written in first person narrative from Tania's perspective. From the very beginning you can tell that there is a lot going on under the surface with Tania, although she seems very laid-back and a bit of a daydreamer, there is far more to her than that. She has a wonderful family unit even though her parents at absent for a large part of the time due to their jobs. She has grown up independent and level headed, she knows exactly who she is OR does she? She is a wonderfully supportive and loyal friend, and has a fantastic mutually caring two-way relationship with her boyfriend Orlando. At first I was unsure if he really cared for her deeply or if she was some sort of trophy girlfriend; but as the plot unfolded the depth of their relationship really shines through the narrative.

I really loved how an English language 101 lesson was incorporated into the narrative comparing and contrasting with Tania's Fathers use of language and his Eastern European heritage ( my quest for education via osmosis achieved [ : D ] ). The use of different religions and philosophies within the story was a stroke of genius, adding depth to the plot. I am a sucker for the giant battle of good versus evil and the way in which this one was portrayed was ingenious. Although the use of snake imagery really does make me *shudder*.

The writing style is sensory encompassing and so beautifully descriptive, making it very easy to conjure up Tania's world within the imagination. The comparisons of the fire descriptions and their use within the story brought to mind images of Hell on Earth. The use of the Pheonix rising from the ashes brought thoughts of re-incarnation, both a good thing and a bad thing when looked at via this storyline. The action and pacing of the plot were very smoothly controlled. Background details, interesting realistic elements and random fascinating facts were all woven together to give a dynamic storyline. Amazing use of analogues to fairytales within the book expand the plot further, a piece of writing brilliance.

As I have already stated one of the main characters in this book is a Rock Star so I can’t do this review without mentioning the awesome use of music references and original song lyrics within the book, not only did they re-enforce the plot but they developed it further. I am sure we can all relate to the mesmerising effect that some music has. Alongside the wild abandon of a live concert, incredibly portrayed in the narrative.

This book really is a brilliant start to a new series for Eden Maguire. I cannot wait for the second book to see just what happens next. Although there wasn’t a cliff-hanger of an ending exactly I just feel as if I have to know what happens to Tania next, where the characters themselves are heading.

So if like me you love an epic battle of good versus evil this book is the one for you.

This story was different, with a cult theme it seems to evoke various sensations. One more than others, creepy. You don't really know what's going to happen next, and when it does, it wasn't what you were expecting. You think it's going to go the usual YA way, it doesn't though.

This book was pretty intense, but I'm not entirely sure why. There is not really a lot of action (until the very end), so maybe the slow build up of tension and evil made for the nail-biting pace.

Orlando is the first worthy boyfriend I have seen in a really long time. He works through his jealousy issues like an adult. A bit of a let down.

I love Maguire's Beautiful Dead series, but this one just didn't do it for me.
My main problem was Tanya our, and I laughably use the word 'heroine' here. She was just SUCH a wet blanket. She was wingy, she was at times damn right depressing and was being used as such a tool by her boyfriend. You wanted to tell her to grow up and man up and get on with it.

The pretense for the story was good. I t seriously was just the characters that let it down

I liked the concept of the book but I began reading with high expectations which the book failed to meet. By the time the plot revealed itself I'd already lost interest and didn't feel any kind of sympathy for the characters. The most frustrating element of this book is how the story jumped from scene to scene, it made it very jarring to read. I will NOT be reading any more in this series.

I was disappointed but then again with the guy called Orlando?! It was bound to go wrong.
I really didn't like it I didn't like the plot, the words, the characters just everything! I was glad when I finally finished it. No offense if others like it but in my opinion I HATED this book. One of the worst books I have ever read!

It was confusing for me quite a lot. I didn't really like the way there wasn't a build up of the relationship with Orlando, I mean I don't really mind but I find it easier to get a feel of the character. I just really found it hard to follow with all the changing plots, it's good but i think it was too much, but that might just be me.

Overall I liked the concept of the book. I thought it took a little while to get going.. I did end up liking it in the end. One thing that was a tad irritating was that there were quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes (ie the main character is Tania.. but in the middle of the book it changes to Tanya for a few pages).

This was a pretty good book. I think my seventeen year old niece would really enjoy it. I don't have any deep, significant insights to share about this book other than that it was an enjoyable quick read, and I'm curious as to what will happen between Tania and Orlando now that he's gone off to school in Dallas.

I didnt really feel the romance in this book, Nor did I feel drawn to either Orlando or Danial. I not saying it was a bad book, it was good, the plot was great and well thought off. I just felt there was something lacking, I couldnt really be drawn into the story like I usually am. Maybe its just me though. :)
