All of my cousins should read this book! And that means everyone, since we are all related at some point, if one searches back far enough along the family trees. I shared this book with my husband's uncle, who was very strong in researching the Russell family genealogy. It sparked quite an affinity for genealogy between us, and he and I discussed this book again not too long before he recently passed away. The Mack Marsden Murder Mystery is a delight to read ! Loved this for its historical value since I grew up in Jefferson County, MO. I was fun getting a glimpse of an earlier time there, seeing what my ancestors were a part of and trying to picture their lives back then. I had not given them much thought until I read this. The mystery just added to it.

Its no surprise that Joe Johnston has emerged as a powerful author of narrative history, with his newest book, "Necessary Evil: Settling Missouri with a Rope and a Gun,and "The Mack Marsden Murder Mystery: Vigilantism or Justice?" both in the Vigilante Series from Missouri History Museum.

Born in Missouri and reared on the plains of Oklahoma, he naturally embraced the culture of the American West.
