This review is based on listening to the audiobook version.
I did a car drive of more than 5 hours (back and forth) so i had time to listen to the entire book (about 3 hours).
Its not appropriate to every kind of book, at least to me, because too many little details are not grasped or given enough attention but for this kind of light, star trek action, its enjoyable.

Regarding the story itself, PAD again portraits the characters we know so well of Riker and Troi and show us More...

I'm almost embarrassed to give this, a Star Trek novel, five stars, but I am compelled to go back every few years and read it, so I guess it must be pretty good. It might be because I am something of a romantic and whenever I start to feel the need for a good love story, this is the one I pick up! I loved The Next Generation, it was my favorite Trek, but I've never read any other novels in this genre. Every time I've tried, I have found that the author's ideas about extrapolating the characters' More...

I read this book a long time ago, and it was so good I wanted to re-read it. I was a little past half way when I decided to read a little in bed. I finished it almost 3 hours later. It was an excellent story, and I'm glad I re-read it. It made me want to watch the series again.

As I was reading it, I really felt like this was a "lost episode". It gives you backstory for the characters which had previously only been imagined. Peter David is an excellent writer.

This is a personal favorite. It was one of the few books in the world I have read more than four times. If you are a Star Trek fan and a fan of romance, action, adventure, and time travel, this book is for you. If not, your loss. I hold this book close to my heart because I love the plot. Can't say much for the writing except it is supreme for popular fiction. I love it! It is truly my guiltiest pleasure.

Probably the best book Peter David wrote for any Star Trek series. It answered the many questions behind the relationship of Commander Riker and Counselor Troi. (The sequel was just as compelling and wonderfully gave resolution to the Riker/Troi/Worf triangle with which the show had ended but wasn't answered in films or on DS9.) But this book was truly wonderful to read.

A friend of mine tried to read the sections in chronological order but gave up when she realized she was missing t More...

A long-time favorite. One day, I will probably have to replace my copy, and I will probably cry when that day comes. Even if it is a touch melodramatic at times, I love that it's a mostly complete history of their relationship -- and that it's one of the last ST novels sanctioned by Gene before his death.

This is one of the first Star Trek books I read. For fans of the Riker - Troi relationship it's a delight. It tells how they first met, and how they become IMZADI, which means beloved. It's also intersting to see into the future -- well, a possible future.

So, you have to be a Star Trek fan to even think about picking up this book, but if you think Troi and Riker were born for each other, then you have to read their full story.

I had two reasons to look forward to this book: the author had been recommended to me, and I yearned to learn more about the origins of the Riker/Troi romance. The author's nonlinear storytelling and the time travel elements of the book were creative enough to keep me reading until the last page. He has skill at crafting plot and action. The relationship as written here, however, fell completely flat for me. Their story was filled from start to finish with bad cliches, current gender stereot More...

I generally try to sound like an adult when I review a book but not this time. I love love loved this story! I grew up with Next Gen and always not-so-secretly loved Troi/Riker so I was desperate to read this. It was lovely to read about their first meeting and Rikers not wholly gentlemanly response to the sight of Troi, but also the way their relationship swiftly evolved. It didn't just satisfy my need for fluffy romance but was also incredibly funny at times ie;

Reading Star Trek books is a guilty pleasure of mine. I like the familiarity of the characters and they are always a light, quick read. The worst of them are just like watching a bad episode, not the best time, but you still want to see it. This was like one of those episodes. It read more like a nerdy romance novel with archetypal characters, the instinctive lustful Riker and the intellectual emotional Troi....Lame!! The majority of the book is them not having sex and talking about their f More...

In honor of the 25th anniversary, of what would be my all time favorite show if it were not for The X-Files, Star Trek the Next Generation is coming to Blu-Ray totally redone. Having read most of the novels over two decades ago,  I thought that I would write my general feel for the serial STNG novels. I could never do a real review now, other than to say that I loved them.

Peter David has always been one of my favorite Star Trek authors, a writer whose talents run both to comedy (Strike Zone and Q-In-Law) and drama (the Star Trek: New Frontier series). In Imzadi, the second hardcover novel of the Star Trek: The Next Generation franchise, he turns his attention to Troi and Riker's relationship - before, during and after the period covered by the television show.

As someone once famously declared in The Princess Bride (another favorite), "Death canno More...

I've always wanted to know the whole story behind Deanna's and Riker's relationship and how it all began so when this book was shown to me by my Dad, I was naturally very excited. I'll be honest, this isn't how I imagined their story to be, however I did love it. Peter David does a very good job at capturing the character's personalities and staying true to what history we have of them. Of the few Star Trek books I have read, this would probably be labeled among my favorites!

My personal favorite Star Trek novel of all. When I read the plot in back cover I got amazed and when I read it, I just love it! It's not only my number one Star Trek novel but I will put it in any list of novels that I will do if sci-fi, romance or simply the concept of novel can apply to the list.
It's incredible the way that Peter David could take a recognizable element from the Original Series like the Guardian of Forever, part of the best TOS episode "The City at the Edge of Forev More...

I've read this book many times after it first came out, but my absense from it made it feel new once again. Peter David has penned a very exciting, emotionally charged, and intellectual story. The voices are dead on especially that of Lwaxana Troi who was always a dramatic delight of the series. Time travel is a difficult concept to do well. The effects can be so complex and consequential to the series its within. David masterfully weaved the story between this difficult concept. It makes More...

Guilty Pleasure...:) But this was actually was a lot better than I thought it would be! Sure there were a couple cornball moments... and let's face it this was not a a literary masterpiece...but truly a very fun read. And the cheesiness is one of the things I love about Star Trek, it's light and doesn't take itself too seriously. :) Overall i would recommend to anyone.(Unless they are violently apposed to betazoid traditions.)

Just adding a few more Star Trek novels I found while working in the shed, so they're in my list here; that way, I can easily see which ones we don't have and bookmooch only titles we're missing. But to be honest, I don't remember any of these stories particularly well, and will have to post an actual review when and if I get around to re-reading them in the future.

When I was a kid I read a lot of these Star Trek novels. I decided to revisit them. There were two that I remembered specifically, and this was one of them.

And I liked it. It has some particularly cheesy moments, and I don't think it gets much nerdier than a Star Trek romance novel... but what the heck; it was fun.

I was able to read this rather quickly and I was interested. Deanna Troi is my favorite TNG character. However, since I was so used to watching these characters on television, I guess somehow reading these intimate moments between Riker and Troi almost made me feel that I was intruding and not meant to see these memories.

The one and ONLY trekkie book that I have ever read. I borrowed it from my aunt (an avid Trekkie) because I had always wondered about that odd sexual tension between Riker and Diana. Now I know why they always seemed seconds away from steamy hot sex in the TV series. lol.

I know most Star Trek novels are considered sub-standard sci-fi fare, but if you're a fan of ST:TNG, this book is as good as it gets. Peter David is one of those writers who can take the source material and move it up a notch. Plus, I'm a sucker for time travel stories.

If you're a fan of the series, in the first episode (the pilot) Troi calls Ryker "Imzadi" when they are formally introduced on board their new ship. This novel is their love story, and it wouldn't be a good story without the requisite time travel in it.

I've always been a "closet Trekkie" so I thought I would give the written word a try as there are hundreds of Star Trek books out there. Although the story-line was entertaining, it was not the Trekkie experience. So, one was enough.

I've read this book about 15 years ago borrowed from the library. I would still say that this book is a very good read! The world building was already set by the star trek movies/series so the world building and character development there cannot be scored as it was already done long before this book was published. The author however spins a tale about the two characters in star trek which I really liked. And I think this has contributed a whole lot to my reading pleasure! My addiction and cravi More...

One of the best ST books ever written. Should have been a movie. Perhaps a little too "romantic" for some hard-core ST fans, but I liked it enough to read it again nine years after reading it for the first time.

An interesting back story to the Riker-Troi relationship. An exciting ride too. The characters were right in line with their television counterparts. And the story line was easily to follow, despite changing timelines.
