Sometimes love....can be deadly.

Ellory Graham detested high school. She relished the fact that she was a rebel. A wild, carefree, type of girl. She basked in the glory of being the type of girl who stood up to authority. Unfortunately for her, her upfront, honest and bitchy nature always managed to land her in some kind of trouble.

Adam Jacobs was everything Ellory was not...more

Lauren definitely has a way with words. She can make even the most disturbing situation seem understandable. I guess the fact that this is fiction put my mind at ease because if i knew someone with a secret as dark as Adam's, i would probably freak out. The way she describes the characters in the book and their feelings is hauntingly beautiful. Just like in "He loves me he loves you not", the feelings between the characters are... i don't know the right word...obsessive??...possessive?? none of...more

**A DARK, DEMENTED, SUSPENSE THRILLER THAT HAD ME ACHING FOR MORE **

Ok so I wasn't too sure what to expect from this psycho thriller book, I wanted to have an open mind to see where the author would take me.

This is the story of a teenage boy, Adam who realizes he is different; he's obsessed with blood and killing. As the story goes on he attempts to control his urges but fails and kills his girlfriend. His family moves to a new town and he thinks he will have a fresh start and really control hi...more

LOVED this book. I will review soon.

It would have earned a five star from me had it not been for all of the editing issues. There were way too many....erroneously placed quotation marks, missing commas, words that make no sense in the context which they were used (ex. her legs were dangling off the side of her legs). Thankfully, I was so invested in the characters and drawn into the story, I was able to overlooked the lack of editing.

I love Lauren Hammond's style of writing. I can't wait for th...more

I am sitting here after just finishing this novel and thinking "what am I going to put in my review after reading this novel. How do I put my feelings actually into words? I don't think I can.

It begins in 1993 and we are introduced to Hannah. Hannah has a 2 month old baby in her car. We find that she has no motherly instincts; she felt nothing for her son even when he was born.

We don't get to find out very much else about Hannah except that she is incapable of loving her child, she shows no empa...more

Just to be clear :this is a 4.5 stars!
I'm still shocked , I mean how can I not be shocked after such a horrible terrific, amazing ending? I mean yeah I'm still kindda freaked out about the whole "issues" Adam have (That's obviously why I didn't give this book 5 stars) , but the ending is....!! what Am I supposed to understand from it????????!!!!!!! It's not fair!!! and now God knows how long I have to wait for the next one, to know what lays ahead for Ellory ,and Adam!!!
I have to say I read this...more

Wow: this book actually managed to surprise me.
I read Famished, the dystopian YA novel Lauren Hammond worte.
I gave it 2.5 stars at the time and I wasn't going to read another novel by Ms Hammond again because there were quite many errors and her prose wasn't very neat.
Plus, I didn't think she had that special something that would let me say: "Gee, I haven't read that before!"
Famished just wasn't very original. There were cannibals, yeah, but that was about as original as it got.
When I first saw...more

I have to say Lauren Hammond’s A Whisper to a Scream was a really fresh and original read for me—not to mention creepy to the core!

Right from the beginning Hammond sets an intense, dark, gripping mood, which carries through all the way to the last page. And I was on the edge at every twist and turn.

A Whisper to a Scream alternates between the voices of Ellory and Adam.

I think Ellory was the biggest shock for me. I usually identify with the “good girls” who are trying t...more

Slight spoilers!
I dont know where to start with this book.
This is seriously one of the best book i read in 2012! :D

Adam likes blood. Alot. (like a vampire, just that vampires don't exist in this world)
He loves the rush when he see it and he sees it often. In every girl, girlfriends he had. I love Adam, he is sexy, has a dark past, and he every teenage girl dreams. His father is a famous lawyer who never home.
Ellory is the small town girl, she gets into fights, she stands up for herself. She wo...more

WOWZA!!! Just read Insanity a couple of days ago. Now I plowed through A Whisper to a Scream....the hell with laundry or feeding my family....they can eat cereal! lol I've become a Lauren Hammond junkie and find myself stalking her page trying to figure out when book #2 of the Sociopath Diaries will come out. Soon please!!

Adam is a twisted, let lovable guy. Does that make sense? Nope. But I felt it. Ellory gets in a bit of trouble herself, not sure that she is ready for someone like Adam. But t...more

This is an interesting and unique read that I've never seen done in YA.

Ellory is your typical ya teenage angst girl. She's 17, a senior in high school, has a mouth like a sailor, doesn't like to get gussied up, and loves her friends.

Her life is about to get flipped upside down. Burton, Ohio hasn't had anything exciting happen to it in years. Maybe even decades. That is until Adam Jacobs moves to town. A beautiful boy with a winning smile, football skills, and a dark dark secret.

Adam is a monster...more

Oh, for the love of all that is sane and good in this world, this book has royally messed with my head!!! I should have known after reading Insanity and seeing that the name of this series is "The Sociopath Diaries" that this was going to be one of those books you don't walk away from unscathed. And no, I did not...

From the start of Whisper, we know Adam's secret. We know what he is. We see from his perspective how he lusts for blood and feels no remorse for what he does to get his release. It's...more

For me this book was brilliant!

I mean ok, ok, ok there is a little room for improvement. Like maybe one good look through with a fresh pair of eyes could catch the typos and misplaced words that are sprinkled here and there throughout the book. But as you can tell from my 5 star rating I thought the book was still too good, even with the errors, to take a star away.

I will warn you that at first it might be a little confusing to read. It switches back form Ellory's POV which is first person pre...more

I don't even have words at this point. Holy cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book. I loved the storyline and thought it was different and unique. wow!! I really just loved it.

On that note, there were quite a few typos, missing words and some grammar mistakes. I personally don't get bothered to much by those things but I know there are a lot readers that are very conscience about those.

I really wanted to like this book, really I did; I just recently read two other books by Lauren Hammond and I just absolutely loved them, so I was hoping I would love this one just as much. *Le sigh* I didn’t. Maybe it’s just not my cup o’ tea because the majority of the reviews I have read were positive, but there was just too much I couldn’t get past. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Ellory is a rebel with a mouth like a sailor and a just-don’t-give-a-damn attitude. She sneaks out of the house, g...more

Okay, I really, REALLY liked the premise of this story. You never see something like this in YA fiction. The first 25% of the book was really good, but then the writing got sloppy and there were SO many typos and grammatical mistakes that it was hard for me to concentrate on what was going on.

This book had so much potential, but at times things felt rushed (particularly Ellory and Adam's attraction for each other. It felt like they were professing their love~ for each other 2 weeks in.)

I guessed...more

I was actually intrigued by the story in this book, though it was at times disturbing to read. I had two main complaints. The first was the lack of editing that could have easily been corrected with a simple spell check. Just one example: asphyxiation spelled "exficiation". The second concern was the idea that a a girl could "save" a sociopath by loving him enough. That is a very, very dangerous idea to endorse in real life. I realize this is a work of fiction, so I was willing to explore this i...more

I give this 3.5.

Likable protagonists, a fast paced humorous storyline, and a believable romance.

What do you do when you find yourself falling in love with a sociopath? Well, that is what our heroine, Ellory, needs to figure out. When she meets Adam, a fellow senior and new student at her school, she despises him. But Ellory intrigues him and soon they come together and start a relationship. Though there are some editing problems, the story captures you pretty quick as you try and figure out ex...more

4.5 Stars!!!

Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions! Gripping, thrilling, creepy and at times funny!!!

Adam

The prologue was amazing and really just pulled me in I had to know more! We meet Adam as a young child, he's confused and has these deep, dark cravings. Although he's a child without emotion he knows immediately that these craving aren't normal and keeps them too himself. As he grows older he tries to suppress them and hides them behind a facade. He becomes the perfect poster child, a young...more

I enjoyed reading this book. Mostly because it is different then most books that I read. It is always interesting for me when I fall in love with the "insane" character. I know that I should not be rooting for him, but I just can't help it. It reminds me of the movie "Mr. Brooks, at the end I'm questioning MY own sanity for being so happy that the "Bad guy" got away.

My only complaint is how fast the story went. I feel like Ellory fell in love with Adam too fast. I know he had plenty reason to f...more

went in with a couple of friends reading this book.. started reading and was all OKAY.. umm yah book fits the title..then got a little further in and was lulled into a false sense of security thinking okay this book isn't so bad.. it is sort of reading like a young adult romance a bit.. boy and girl date.. go to high school.. he has demons yadda yadda.. then BAM Lauren Hammond SMACKS you in the face ... so you read and read and read and are like WTH?? and OMG is that who I think it is?? This book was fantastic. I was immediately sucked into the story from the first few pages. I loved the main character, Ellory. She is strong, hard headed, smart, and logical. She surprised me on every turn and is unbelievably funny. Adam however is quite difficult to express in words. You learn to love him. It's hard not to, but the secrets he is hiding are devastating and horrendous. The boy is a sociopath so it’s hard to admit that you love him. This story is very dark, but sweet in the same s...more

Wow!! I hope that we don't have to wait too long for book 2 in this series because book one has sure left me needing to know more!! I've only seen characters like Adam in true crime books. Never have I read anything like this in a YA book. He was dark, intense, twisted, chilling, but then there was something about him that pulled you in!! And I really liked him!! And I find that so strange, so a huge kudos to Lauren Hammond for being able to create a character like that!! On the downside, I can'...more

What was that ending??? I am so confused!!! *takes deep breath*

**I'll take this moment ahead of time to apologize for this scattered review! My thoughts are everywhere and I don't know if it's going to make sense. The two most important points are that this book is AMAZING and the reason why it's not 5*'s is because it needs to be edited better.**

2.5 stars for this book. Scary, sociopath books are entertaining sometimes. This one was scary, but in a safe sort of way. It being a YA book, I imagine they can't do too much with violent scenes and keep it in this genre. I don't think I have read many books where they make you want to love the bad guy. The grammar errors in this book were atrocious. I counted at least a dozen, so there easily could have been more. If you can get past the spelling and grammar issues and like scary books, but no...more

Adam is (UGH, I can't believe I am going to SAY THIS), my kind of sociopath. There I said it. Too late to take it back. What is wrong with me???? Is there a help group I can join??? You find out in the beginning just what a disturbed human being Adam is? How can I hope for love and goodness for this complexed person. This book was different from anything I have ever read and it was an amazing read! When I was reading it, I thought 'now how is the author going to make me like the characters and e...more
