Revelation (Star Wars: Legacy of the Force #8)
During this savage civil war, all efforts to end Jacen Solo’s tyranny of the Galactic Alliance have failed. Now with Jacen approaching the height of his dark powers, no one–not even the Solos and the Skywalkers–knows if anything can stop the Sith Lord before his plan to save the galaxy ends up destroying it.

Okay... here is all I have to say... I love the journey that this series is taking the reader... but I really wish that they made Darth Caedus to be more of a bad ass. Its like, for the past 3 volumes he's been getting his butt kicked by every member of the Star Wars universe. Also, I don't understand how all of the people that hear that he is a dark lord are kinda like, "oh... okay." It just seems like a little bit of an understatement of the severity of the issues that are surroun...more
A pointless mess of a book that only exists because Traviss-ty apparently never watched the Star Wars films so she has no idea how Force Ghosts work. She makes Karen Sue Skywalker (because whoever that was in the books Traviss-ty "wrote," it sure as hell wasn't Mara Jade) play Force Ghost charades, when anyone who's seen at even just the original Star Wars: A New Hope is fully aware that Force sensitives can communicate verbally after physically death ("Run, Luke, Run" "...more
Great entry in the series. A couple very minor flaws related to continuity, but who can write in this incredibly busy universe without any mistake?
Nice plot driven adventure, good pacing. Characterizations are also well served by the portrayals here, great treatments of the Mandalorians and Jaina.
For my dime, Karen Traviss could have done a better job with some of the poorer entries in this series. Fine work! Very enjoyable.

far too much fett - and almost the whole novel is filler
there's far too much concentration on traviss's favourite characters - boba, mirta, shevu, ben and Niathal.
the fact that niathal boba and mirta are almost non existent outside her novels is really disturbing to the story
dont u get it karen, no one likes boba fett now that you've ruined him - all that mando crap - arrgh!!!

It seems that as this series progresses along it keeps getting better and better. Jacen finally reveals his true colors to the galaxy and Jaina fully embraces her destiny paving the way for the biggest showdown in Star Wars history since the Anakin Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi showdown in Episode III. But the most satisfying part of this addition to an incredible series is to finally see Ben Skywalker fully grow into his role as a Jedi. He may possess a great deal of self-doubt about his own abiliti...more
The odd thing in this novel as opposed to Inferno is that I found Jaina and the Mando stuff much more interesting than that self doubting Sith Lord, Caedus.
The book did drag for a while and several ideas were gone over more than once or went on a bit long. I keep thinking about Caedus. Poor guy. He's Hamlet without a cause. Not a strong enough villain for 9 books. Then again, who is?

This story was put together and a great up to the end. After the main battle, and the "clean-up" was started, this author (as usual) keeps running on and on dragging out something that does not need to be. Karen is bad about focusing on thing and leaading up to, as well as, running on and on withit much longer then needs or should be. It's called rabbling Karen Traviss; and most people don't like it.

I hate to do it, but I've got to give two stars to a Star Wars novel. I would not have finished this one if hadn't been part of the Legacy of the Force series.
First, this is what I liked about Revelation:
Ben growing up. His investigation of Jacen was the best part of this book.
Mara visiting Ben and Luke was a great touch.
Next, what I disliked about the book. And there is a lot.
Jaina, a jedi and daughter of Han and Leia, going to B...more

Before I finished Revelation, Karen Traviss announced she'd be leaving the Star Wars universe to tackle other projects. Which is a damned shame, because she's hands-down the best thing the franchise has going for it these days (and no, I don't think that's a gross overstatement--have you seen the Clone Wars series?)
I've found this series an increasingly hard road to slog down, mainly because I've realized I just don't care if the Jedi are being persecuted by the rest of the galaxy a...more

Meh.
Some interesting twists here, but Traviss's poor dialogue writing and her portrayal of Boba Fett as a daddy's boy is too distracting. Example: "By the way Lieutenant, I have a new title, Caedus, Darth Caedus. I would like you to start calling me that now." WTF? Really? That's how someone reveals themselves to be a Sith Lord. Not to mention the philosophical conundrum of Jacen himself. Jacen adopted Sith tactics and teachings because he thinks they can help him br...more

A good continuation of the Legacy of the Force series. I still think the series is sometimes hard to get through - quite a bit darker than usual with many favorite characters rejoining the Force (rather like the Yuuzhan Vong series). This one saw another classic character fall, but at least he dies well. And things are shaping up against Darth Caedus. One more book to go!
This series took the New Jedi Order cast to an all to familiar level. I felt that the story was engaging, the characters well developed and the story line quick, but it fell into the same Starwars trap. While a New Jedi Order challenged the status quo and soared to new heights, this story failed to live up to the gigantic bar that its predecessor set.
Book 8 of 9...
Jacen is reeling. The galaxy is in turmoil and alliances are being forged and broken on a daily basis. The Empire Remnant is brought into the story and another one of my favorite characters is killed in a way that just wasn't fitting in my mind.
Jacen finds himself in the middle of a 3 way war where the sides are constantly shifting. The mandalores are in the thick of it, showing us why they are such feared warriors. Yet another one of my favorite characters ...more

Traviss' obsession with the Mandalorians is borderline ridiculous. But I will admit she makes Boba Fett a fairly complex and likeable character. One thing has really started to bother me throughout this series: for a dark lord of the Sith, Jacen is awfully whiney. Suck it up!
I liked it well enough I guess ... It's pulp fiction, even if set in a familiar setting. Pity that the great evil in the setting had all these books to flesh out and his eventual fall to the dark side was actually sort of hammy ... but then this isn't high fiction, is it?
"Travissty" strikes! She kept the collaborated plot moving along but her approach stunk. I really didn't like this book...the training...the culture rewrite she felt entitled to do in this and her other story arc.... I just glad she didn't get to end the story arc.

This book I think may have saved the series.
Basically, the Skywalker/Solo clan finally realizes that Jacen has to be dealt with. This book shows that Revelation, and how they come to it. The subplot is really an explanation about why Boba Fett is the way he is. Pretty well done. Also, a tertiary plot about the child of two of the characters from the Republic Commando series and one of the main supporting characters from the same series.

The next big series after the New Jedi Order was a great read. It really delves into the consequences of the Yuuzhan Vong war. I could have done without the not-so-vague commentary on American politics, though.
This book has a lot going for it. You find out some interesting things about Boba Fett's past. A significant character from past series returns and plays a large role. Jacen continues his descent in mind boggling ways. That being said, this is the second-to-last book in a phenomenal series and I felt like it should have brought me to the mother of all cliff hangers that the final book would then resolve. Instead, it sort of limps through the last couple chapters, focusing on character developmen...more
Fabulously populated universe, with characters I came to care about. One of the very few authors who gives me all the depth of a universe comparable to Marion Zimmer Bradley's best work.

My second-favorite Legacy of the Force book. The Battle of Fondor made the book.
Eighth book in the Legacy series, it is one of the lesser page-turners. The author spends considerable time focusing on the personal issues of Boba Fett and not on the action takingplace all over the galaxy. Even the climatic battle was disappointing. The author was finishing her niche (Boba Fett) in the storyline before the ninth and final book. The result was the most stagnant volume in the series. As a result, it stands out significantly from the others in the series - even the other two...more
Awesome writing and a great book!
Really enjoyed this.
Yep, Karen Traviss really does Star Wars right. good book in the series.
I apparently read this at a busy time, and can no longer remember when I finished it, or truly, how well it was written. I believe it was written well enough, and I even enjoyed it, although it (if I remember correctly that is) didn't involve many of the characters overmuch.
And some characters are just okay to read about. And well, perhaps not my favorites. So really, not a bad book or anything, just not something that really stands out in my memory.
