    <body><![CDATA[Dense.  Very dense.  I think it reads like a Platonic dialogue.  The story is a series of arguments.  I recommend the Norton Annotated edition unless the reader is acutely familiar with mid-19th century Missouri history and folklore as the text is littered with obscure references.]]></body>
