The Wheels on the Bus by Jane Cabrera is a variant of the classic song featuring a bus full of animals.

This bus features a roaring lion, flapping flamingos, a chomping zebra, chattering monkeys, a laughing hyena, a snapping crocodile, a hiding chameleon, snoring bush babies, and a giraffe driver who gets them to the swimming hole where they splish, splash and splosh.

The colorful illustrations are cute, aimed at young children.

This should be fun for very young children, who would enjoy making all...more

It takes a long time to get somewhere, even when you're traveling by bus. In this version of the classic traveling song, the eager animals don't stay quiet as the bus heads toward its destination. Instead, the lion roars, the flamingos flap, and the zebra chomps. Once they reach their watery endpoint, it's time for lots of fun. Young readers will enjoy hearing this read aloud and repeating the animals' sounds: the crocodile's snap and the monkey's chatter, not to mention the "ha. ha. ha. ho. ho....more

This was a nice adaption of Wheels on the Bus using animals and their sounds. There is a nice variety of animals, too. We head this at a story time for 2-4 year olds, and the kids knew most of the animals, but needed help with a couple. I really like this author / illustrators painting style and we've read several other books by here, most notably a great version of If You're Happy and You Know It.

Caberera's versions of childhood favorite songs are always a hit. I like this version of The Wheels on the Bus quite well, especially the flamingos!, but my favorite will always be The Seals on the Bus.

So, I've always loved Jane Cabrera's sweet, colorful, paint-thick illustrations. And this is no exception. This will rival Lenny Hort's "Seals on the Bus" for my affection - I liked that this one included lesser-known jungle animals like Bush Babies and had the chameleon playing hide-and-seek. Good stuff!

Because of my preference for presenting music library programs, I'm always on the lookout for another version of a classic song. This title shares well the Wheels on the Bus classic song with a jungle animal cast. The last line plays out a bit awkwardly but otherwise, this is a fun option for storytime!

The classic travel song gets an update with this version set in the jungle. While a giraffe drives the bus to the watering hole, various animals flap, roar, and laugh. I would much rather sing this song than the tired old one. I think kids will, too.

This version focuses on the passengers on the bus rather than the actions of the bus itself. The bus is driven by a giraffe, and its passengers – a chameleon, a lion, monkeys, is zebra, and a few flamingos enjoy the ride

Super book for toddler storytime--zoo animals are riding on a bus doing various activities like chomping, roaring, chattering, etc. The book is big and brightly colored, making it ideal for big groups. Great fun!
Tara
A wild animal take on the classic children's song. The pictures are very vibrant and there are lots of animal sounds which are always a hit with my 4.5 month old.
Angela
A bright and jolly addition to any collection of read-along/sing-alongs, this version features a safari bus filled with very loud animals. Perfect for storytime.
Allison Parker
A twist on the classic song. Unusual animal sounds and actions, e.g. flamingos go "flap flap flap" and the chameleon plays hide and seek.
Julie
It's the Wheels on the Bus with jungle animals. Nothing revolutionary, or brilliant, but a nice addition to the old storytime grab-bag.
Shelli
Super cute take on the classic The Wheels on the Bus. All the fun animals noises are guaranteed to be a kid crowd pleaser.
Joann
A clever re-working of wheels on the bus...a few rhyming issues, but enjoyed the animals and the art. good Story Time selection.
Library Quine
An animal version of The Wheels on the Bus. Bright and lively illustrations. Rising 3s enjoyed guessing the animals, moving along with the various animals, andc especially flapping elbows as the flamingos go 'flap, flap, flap'.
Read to rising 3's 26/jan/2012.

A was mesmerized when she first read this book. However she did not pick the book up immediately from the bunch but her first reading was memorable. Even though I read the book only for 1 or 2 nights (maybe 5-7 times) before it went back to the library, she remembered the flamingos flapping and the zebras chomping for a long time. it was her go to car chant. I still remember her glee when I got the book back from the library a couple months later.

A bit hard to sing, but fun to see the different animals on the bus. Preschoolers like it, but what the heck is a bush baby? LOL
Samantha
A twist on the popular kids tune that features different jungle animals and an accompanying action(i.e. making a noise or flapping wings etc). My favorite is the hyenas; I love their laughter! This is sure to be a hit at Storytime!

Text is set against paintings of cute animals rendered in a preschool-friendly way.
